Thanksgiving Gift Card Drive For One of Iowa’s Newest Faith Congregations Southern Sudanese (Mabaan) Worshipping Community Nov. 14th-18th, 2016 Please help this new community of faith by donating a gift card. Over 200 people, who are part of the South Sudanese (Mabaan) worshipping community, will be gathering at Epworth United Methodist Church in Des Moines on Thanksgiving Day to celebrate and worship. This includes over 150 families from Des Moines, Omaha and Storm Lake. They will be coming together to share in prayer, singing, worship and scripture reading in their unique cultural traditions. Gift cards are needed to provide supplies for the gathering but will also be evenly distributed to each individual refugee family who have specific needs for basic necessities and housing supplies so they are able to personally select the items that they would like to have for their families including: food, winter clothing, toiletries, toilet paper, cleaning supplies, dishware and etc. Please donate $25, $50 and $100 (and upward) from the following: • Walmart Also needed: two used or new electric • Hy-Vee guitar amplifiers for worship services. • Casey’s General Stores Donated gift cards will be accepted at the Central District Office located at 2301 Rittenhouse St., Des Moines, IA 50321 from 11/14/16 – 11/17/16. On Christmas Day over 150 families with children of all ages who belong to the Mabaan (South Sudanese) worshipping community will gather together to share in a community worship celebration at a church in Storm Lake. The service will include music, prayer, and a sharing of the scriptures through a creative theater-based production. The celebration will be in Arabic, English, and Mabaan.
