CLASSIFICATION OF NOUNS NOUNS-defined as names of persons, places, or

things. They are either proper or common. PROPER NOUNS are specific names and are, therefore, CAPITALIZED.

COMMON NOUNS, on the other hand, have various types.

Suffixes –ism, -ship, or –try are added to concrete nouns or when the final t of the concrete words is changed to c, and y is added.Suffixes –ance, -ment, or –ion are added to verbs or when the final ate is replaced with –ance.

Adjectives that take suffixes –ism, -ship, or –try. When the final ant is changed to -ance, and the final ate is changed to cy, abstract nouns are derived.

Add the sign of possession to the last noun to indicate common ownership.

The teacher and the group leaders’ choice is the best.

Mr. Ramos and Mr. Reyes’s office is very quiet. Add the sign of possession to all nouns to show

separate ownership.

Ruth’s and Kate’s opinions are considered by the group members.
