SEPTEMBER CULTURAL PROGRAM For our September 9 Cultural Meeting, Mary Lombardi Dye and Tony Polisi will present their concept of a downtown "Little Italy" development near the old Bottoms district (Denargo Street). Their vision includes a piazza, shops, residences and meeting space promoting Italian culture and tourism. The meeting will be held at 7:30 at the Consolidated Mutual Water company 12700 West 27th Avenue, Lakewood, in the meeting room off the reservoir. In case of inclement weather please contact Carol Marsala at 303-237-0688. ANNUAL PICNIC We thank and congratulate chairperson Lori Roluti and her committee for a fine job. The food was good and plenty. The 70 plus members and guests who attended had a great time and the weather was simply ideal. Grazie di nuovo Lori and Michael Roluti and John DiPentino and the rest of the committee. IMPORTANT NOTICE The Consolidated Mutual Water Company has recently informed us that they will no longer be renting the room where we have been holding our cultural meetings since January of 1999. The Dante Society is in the process of finding another permanent location. We kindly ask our members to notify our president Carol Marsala (303-237-0688 or e-mail [email protected] )of any available location you may know. The last meeting to be held at the Consolidated Mutual Water will be on September 9. BOCCE TOURNAMENT Chairperson Joe Adducci has confirmed our bocce tournament for this year at Mickey's Top Sirloin. Please reserve the date of October 15, 2011, for the Hile and Paolo Memorial Bocce Tournament. Hile Goodrich and Paolo Cerrone were annual participants in our tournament, and we would like to celebrate their contribution to this event. We encourage our members, especially the new ones, to join us in this cultural sport. No experience is needed as the game of bocce is simple to learn. What is needed is the desire to participate and to have fun. We would like to make this a family event, therefore for the first time young people from the age of 10 and up are eligible to participate in the tournament only with adult supervision. Please see the attached entry form. If you have any questions please contact Chair Joe Adducci at 303- 232-7949 or our consultant and expert Rich Appuglise at 303-429-2255. CLASSES - All classes are held at Mt Carmel at 35th and Navajo in Denver Class minimums are 5 students. No classes will held the week of Thanksgiving ITALIAN LANGUAGE-10 week session starting September 19. Cost for members is $75.00 per session for the 1st class and $65.00 for each additional session. Proper use of formal and informal forms of addresses and ability to ask questions and give answers. WEDNESDAYS 6-7:30PM LEVEL III - ADVANCED: (All those who have completed the Language II Level last season) Ability to understand a regular conversation and reading. WEDNESDAYS 7:30-9 LEVEL IV - FLUENT: (All those who have completed the Language III Level last season) Full Immersion and deep topic conversation. SATURDAYS 11-12:30 ITALIAN FOR TRAVELERS: Useful sentences for travel and ability to ask information, make reservations or order a meal. SATURDAYS 9:30-11 CULTURAL: History, Fun Facts, Culture, Travel tips, Arts and Architecture, Food, Music, Movies and Popular Traditions of Italy. These are one time classes. EVERY OTHER SATURDAY 12:30-2:30 $15.00 for members (or all 4 classes $50.00 for members) and $20.00 each for non-members. October 1st - The new Italian Generation: a journey into the low birth rate and the immigrants in Italy. October 15th- No classes this Saturday - Dante's Bocce Ball Tournament! Put together a team (4 people) and come and join us. October 29th- A taste of Italy: History of the food and the reason for DOC and DOCG.   • Dante Alighieri Society of Denver Invites you to the Hile Goodrich and Paolo Cerrone Memorial Bocce Tournament

    When: Saturday, October 15, 2011 Where: Mickey's Top Sirloin, 70th and Broadway Why: To play bocce, see your friends, eat , drink and have a great time. Time: 8:30 a.m. Coffee, juice and donuts 9:00 a.m. Bocce tournament 11:00 a.m. Sandwiches Cost: $20.00 per player $15.00 per player age 10-17 $10.00 per spectator (includes sandwiches) Format: 4 person teams with a consolation bracket. Teams can be mixed with women, men, and no more than 2 youngsters per team. There is no age limit for spectators. You won't want to miss playing this traditional Italian sport with friends, family and Dante members. Only the first 16 teams to send an entry will play. You must be a member of a team to enter. Please fill out and send in the form right away. Deadline for the forms and checks made payable to the Dante Society is Monday, October 10, 2011
