Year 5 Planetarium
The planetarium was a unique opportunity for the children to bring their science learning to life! They were able to see the formation of planets and explore the secrets of the universe in a way which enthused them and applied everything they had been learning about in the classroom. We were blown away with their sophisticated and challenging questions which they were able to ask the expert about towards the end. We infused this learning with our artwork where the children created abstract pieces linked to our magical universe. The children are now a lot more inspired and curious about the world around us!
The planetarium was an inspiring experience because
I have never seen the solar system in such an inter-
esting way. We entered a huge tent where there was
a projector which casted an amazing view of the plan-
ets and moon on the ceiling. My favourite part was
when we were able to see the bright stars all around
us whilst the room was pitch black because it was as if
we were seeing the magical stars in reality! From this
experience, I have learnt a lot more about how the
universe works and I am fascinated by all the inter-
esting facts we learnt on the day. (Nike, 5 Austen)
YEAR 5 PLANETARIUM
Today, year 5 had the opportunity to explore space within the confines of a mobile planetarium. The guide took us on a fantas-tic journey around our solar system, explaining in detail the for-mations of our planets, moons and stars. We also learnt a lot about the moon missions carried out by NASA. Outside of this, the children attempted to create an abstract art piece to do with space and our solar system. This was followed by an in-depth Q&A session with the facilitator, who was able to answer some of the most trickiest questions the children could think up. Overall, it wasa brilliant day and I recommend anyone and everyone to seize the opportunity to experience a planetarium, should they ever get the chance to.

On Sunday 27th October, Hindus across the globe celebrated the festival
of Diwali as well as the New Year. Here at Marlborough Primary School
we love to celebrate diversity amongst our children and staff and there-
fore held our own festive celebration on Friday 18th October! There were
a range of fun and educational activities for children to participate in, in-
cluding dressing up in their choice of cultural clothes. During their RE les-
sons, children across EYFS, KS1 and KS2 also learnt all about the story of
Rama and Sita as well as how this festival is celebrated across the world.
These lessons reinforced and promoted values of mutual respect and tol-
erance which are embedded within the school. Children had a special
lunch menu to enjoy and even had a chance to have Henna/Mendhi de-
signs put on them– we are extremely grateful for our fantastic parent vol-
unteers who helped us with this! EYFS were busy making colourful Ran-
goli patterns whilst also using puppets to learn about the story of Diwali.
Have a look below to see some of the beautiful Diva lamps that were
made by Year 1 & 2 children. Year 5 enjoyed making traditional Indian
sweets to celebrate and chose to create a Vegan Coconut Burfi! Finally,
Year 6 dazzled us with their Bollywood Dance Showcase, which they
were skilfully taught by the Dance Days workshop. We aim to celebrate
different festivals from many religions this upcoming academic year so
watch this space!
Article 30: You have the right to practice your own culture, language and religion -
or any you choose.
As well as taking part in all the exciting activities on Diwali Day, Marlborough invited
children to get competitive and creative for this festival! This Festival of Light is usual-
ly welcomed with the decoration of diva lamps in Indian homes. Marlborough held a
competition open to all children to design and create their own diva lamps using any
materials of their choice – the more creative, the better! The deadline for children to
submit these creations was Friday 8th November. We were absolutely blown away by
the superb entries that we received and are incredibly proud of the artistic talent we
have in our school. Thank you to all those parents/guardians and children who en-
tered in the competition and put in a huge amount of effort to create these diva
lamps. Have a look at some of the entries below!

mornings are getting verbal abuse from parent/carers

at 8:50am and that we are already giving the parents/
carers 5mins to be on time.

ON TIME BEFORE NINE
Here at Marlborough, we take punctuality very seriously. Arriving late for
school can be very disruptive for your child, the teacher and the other pupils
in the class. We have launched a new incentive, ‘ON TIME BEFORE NINE’,
where we want to reward those who consistently make it through the gates
on time. Children with 0 lates per term will be rewarded with thirty extra
credits to spend at the G4G shop.
Happy shopping!
