ANNEXURE A
KOHIMA SCIENCE COLLEGE, JOTSOMA
End Semester Examinations (ESE), January 2021
Mode of theory examination and instructions to students
1. The theory examinations will be conducted online in open-book examination1 (OBE) format.
2. Requirements
- A good internet connection. The student should, therefore, station himself/herself in a
place suited for the purpose. Keep in mind that continuous internet connection, though
desirable, will not be required for the whole 5 hours of examination. Good connection will
be required at 10:00 AM for downloading the form/question paper. For those taking the
examination in Google Forms, they will require connectivity before they submit/turn in
the form by 11:30 AM. For answers in PDF, the students will require connectivity before
they submit/turn it in by 3:00 PM.
- A smartphone/computer device with internet connection.
- A scanning application in the smartphone or a conventional scanner.
- Stationery – white sheets of paper and pen to write answers.
2. Applicants will be invited to join respective Google Classrooms hosted by the Controller of
Examinations via their email IDs given in their applications.
3. BA/BSc 1st, 3rd, and 5th Sem and MSc 3rd Sem
Each examination will be in two parts:
Part A : Objective 20 questions 40 marks
Part B : Descriptive 05 questions 30 marks
In the respective class of Google Classroom, Part A will be given as a quiz assignment form and
Part B will be given as an assignment with attached PDF question paper. Both Parts will be posted
at 10:00 AM on the day of the examination.
Part A has to be turned/handed in by 11:30 AM after the quiz assignment form is filled in and
submitted.
1 In an open-book examination, the students can take their notes, books, resource materials like tables and charts and
even online references, instruments, calculators, etc, into an exam situation – in this case, the student’s own home or any safe and suitable place where he/she can concentrate. Open-book examinations test for more than just rote-learning and ability to replicate information. Instead, they test higher level of learning including ability to use knowledge gained, understanding, critical analysis, ability to express these into intelligent answers, etc. and questions in these examinations are set accordingly. For example, MCQs will not be limited to questions with one correct option, but a question may have multiple correct options which will all need to be ticked for the answer to be correct and graded. Students are advised to dispel general misconceptions about open-book examinations – that they are easier, that students do not need to study, that the more the materials the better, etc. In fact, the questions will be on a higher critical level, the student needs a deeper understanding of the subject, and unselectively stacking up on materials usually leads to more distractions and wastage of time during the examination.
ANNEXURE A
For Part B, refer the next point no. 4 below.
4. For taking an examination given as an assignment with attached PDF question paper:
- Download the PDF question paper.
- On a white sheet of paper (which will be the title page of your answer sheets), write name,
roll no., course code, course title only and clearly.
- Write the answers on white sheets of paper with pen in your own handwriting.
- Write the page number on top of every page.
- Do not write your roll no./name in any other page except in the title page.
Identifying yourself in any page other than the title page will be considered as resorting
to malpractice.
- You are advised to finish writing your answers before 2:00 PM so that you have sufficient
time to scan them, properly save & name the PDF, and turn it in the Google Classroom.
- Scan the answer sheets clearly using any scanner or scanning app as a single PDF file. It is
the responsibility of the examinee that the PDF file is clear, readable, and in order.
- Further, you are advised to keep the size of the file small (while maintaining quality) to
facilitate uploading in the event of slow internet connection.
- The name of the answer PDF file should be your Roll No. and the Course Code.
- Turn in the scanned answer in the Google Classroom by 3:00 PM.
For assistance you can refer:
https://support.google.com/edu/classroom/answer/6020285?co=GENIE.Platform%3DA
ndroid&hl=en&oco=1
- Once you have turned in the answer PDF, avoid “unsubmitting” and submitting again. The
last submission time only will be taken into consideration.
5. Old Course BSc 1st, 3rd, and 5th Sem, and Old Course MSc 1st and 3rd Sem
Each examination will be of descriptive type with 5 questions, carrying 14 marks each, for a total
of 70 marks.
In the respective class of Google Classroom, the examination will be given as an assignment with
attached PDF question paper. It will be posted at 10:00 AM on the day of the examination and
has to be turned in by 3:00 PM. Follow the instructions in point no. 4 above.
6. Applicants will be invited to an optional mock exam some days prior to their respective scheduled
examinations.
7. In this format, you - the student - have an even greater responsibility in ensuring that the sanctity,
quality, and validity of the exam are maintained and achieved.
- Ensure that you are in an environment similar to that of an exam hall throughout the duration
of the exam.
ANNEXURE A
- Ensure that the answers are your own. Copying word for word from books and references is
plagiarism – a serious academic offense. This will be considered as resorting to malpractice in
the exam.
- During the exam, for any exam-related issue contact only the COE KSCJ –
Call 6009306830 (this number will not acknowledge SMSs) or SMS/WhatsApp 6009307190.
Other than that, no student is to make/send or receive calls, texts, emails, etc.
Under no circumstances, students are to contact other college faculty members during
exams.
- Any contact with a fellow examinee during the exam hours will be considered as resorting to
malpractice by both the participants in the communication.
Note At no time (before, during, or after exams), screenshots of exam Google Classroom and
information, documents, and forms posted therein are to be taken or shared.
