High Availability
High Availability is basically a feature wherein all the host serversare grouped in what is called a VMHA Cluster accessing shared storage and network. Whenever a member server fails, all the VMs hosted on that member server gets moved and then rebooted onto another member server in that cluster. As an option we can also configure VMHA so that a VM can be moved and rebooted on a different member host server whenever the OS running inside the VM crashes/fails.
Requirement for HAVMware Infrastructure suite: Standard or Enterprise Cluster: All hosts that would be participating in the HA should be grouped in a cluster. Minimum 2 hosts are requiredStorage: All hosts should be able to access all the data stores (SAN/NAS/NFS/iSCSI) where all the Virtual Machines are living and breathing.Network: All hosts should have similar type of networking setup and configured.CPU Compatibility: CPU configuration should be similar among all the member hosts across the cluster.Management Network Redundancy: This is not a hardcore requirement however this is kind of best practice. On each host server 2 NIC cards should be associated with port for vmotion and iSCSI.
