Chapter 1 Product Summary

1.1 Product Profile

BT-360 Battery Tester adopts currently the w orld's most advanced

conductance testing technology to easily, quickly and accurately measure the

actual cold cranking amps capability of the vehic le start ing battery, healthy

state of the battery itself, and common fault of the vehic le start ing system and

charging system, w hich can help maintenance personnel to f ind the problem

quickly and accurately, thus to achieve quick vehicle repair.

1. Test all automotive cranking lead acid battery, including ordinary lead acid

battery, A GM flat plate battery, AGM spiral battery, and Gel battery, etc.

2. Directly detect bad cell battery.

3. Polarity reverse connection protection, reverse connection w ill not damage

the tester or affect the vehicle and battery.

4. Directly test the battery w ith loss of electricity, no need to full charge before

testing.

5. Testing standards include currently the w orld's majority of battery

standards, CCA, JIS, DIN, IEC, EN, SA E, GB.

6. Support mult i-languages, customer can select different language package,

which includes: English, Russian, Spanish, French, German, etc. Other

languages can also be customized according to user's need. if you need

such as Chinese ,Japanese etc , Pls contact w ith us,w e can OEM for you.

1.2 Product Function

Main functions of BT-360 battery tester include: battery test, cranking test,

charging test and other additional functions.

Battery test is mainly targeted to analyze the battery healthy status to

calculate the actual cold cranking capability of the battery and the aging extent,

which provide reliable analysis evidence for the test and maintenance of the

battery. It notif ies the user to replace battery in advance w hen the battery

getting aged.

Cranking test is mainly to test and analyze the starting motor. Through testing

Page 5: NOTES - OBDII365AUTOOL BT-360 Battery System Tester User Manual 2 the actual required cranking current and cranking voltage of the starting motor, it can find out whether the starting

the actual required cranking current and cranking voltage of the starting motor,

it can f ind out w hether the starting motor w orks f ine. There are several reasons

why the starting motor is abnormal: lubr icating system fault causing the

starting loaded torque increasing or rotor friction of the starting motor causing

the increasing friction of the starting motor itself.

Charging test is to check and analyze the charging system, inc luding

generator, rectif ier, rectif ier diode, etc., thus to f ind out w hether the output

voltage of the generator is normal, the rectif ier diode w orks f ine and the

charging current is normal. Suppose one of the above mentioned parts is not in

normal situation, it w ill lead to over charge or incomplete charge of the battery,

thus the battery w ill be quickly damaged and also greatly shorten the using life

of other loaded electrical appliance.

Additional functions include: Set language, voltmeter and screen br ightness

adjustment.

3.1 Pre-Test

3.1.1 Connect Tester

Shake the c la mps back and f or th to make sure they are w ell

connec ted. Tes ter requires the tw o c lamps are w ell connec ted w ith

the battery poles , otherw ise, the tes t cannot go on. Wh en enter the

battery tes t program, sc reen prompts " Che ck Conne ct ion" , do c lean

the poles and re-connec t in the r ight w ay.

Tes ter has reverse connec tion protec t ion f unc tion. When c lamps are

reversely connec ted, tes ter screen w ill not light, but it damages

neither the tes ter nor the automotive load.

NOTE: For parall el connec ted b atter i es , break off the cathode

connec ti on fi r st, then do s i ngl e tes t to each b attery. Suppose

cathode connec ti on is not cut off, there wi ll b e er ror i n tes t resul t.

Tes ter s tarts the charging volt tes t af ter inc rease rev detected.

Af ter the tes t f inished, tes ter displays the eff ec tive charging volts ,

r ipple tes t result and charging tes t result.

NOTE: If no inc rease rev detec ted, it shall be the f ault of ge nerator

regulator or connec tion w ith battery f ailed. Tes ter w ill tr y 3 t imes to

f ur ther detec t, if s t ill f ailed, it w ill s kip the inc rease rev detec t and

the tes t result displays "No Volt Output" . See b elow :

Check the connec tion betw een generator and ba ttery, then retes t.

Char ging Tes t Res ult :

1) Charging Volt : Norm al

Charging sys tem show s the generator output normal, no proble m

detec ted.

2) Charging Volt : Low

Charging volt of the charging sys tem is low .

Check dr ive belt of the generator w hether s lip or running off . Check

the connec tion betw een generator and battery is normal or not.

If both of the dr ive belt and the connec tion are in good condit ion,

f ollow the manuf ac turer 's sugges tion to eliminate generator f ault.

3) Charging Volt : High

Generator output volt is high.

Since mos t of the vehic le generators are us ing internal regulator, the

generator assembly has to be replaced.(So me o ld s ty le cars are

us ing ex ternal regulator, then direc tly replace the regulator.)

The nor mal h igh volt of the voltage regula tor is max imu m

14.7±0.5V.If charging volt is too high, it w ill overcharge the battery.

Theref ore the battery lif e w ill be shor tened and troubles w ill be

caused.

4) No Volt Output :

No g enerator volt output is detec ted. Check the generator

connec tion cable and the belt w hether they are normal.

5) Diode Tes t :

Through the tes t of charging cur rent r ipple, tes ter w ill f ind out

w hether the diode is normal or not. When r ipple volt is too high, it

proves at leas t one diode is damaged. Ch eck and replace the diode.

Till now , all tes ts have been done.
