This extensive collection of plant portraits reveals unexpected shapes and

patterns in nature. Karl Blossfeldt (b. 1865, d. 1932 in Germany) took

photographs that showcase both scientific precision as well as an artist’s eye

for composition, and this unique mix became a great success within modern

art and photography. He designed his own cameras that allowed him to photo-

graph nature through a looking glass, and his images combined the styles of

both Art Noveau and Modernism. Blossfeldt taught sculpting for most of his

life, and his photo collection was first and foremost used to teach his students

about the patterns of nature, but after his work had been exhibited in Berlin in

1926, the teacher became an artist. Two years later the book Urformen der Kunst

was published, and it came to be one of the most influential and signi ficant

photobooks of the 20th century.

In collaboration with the Karl Blossfeldt Foundation in Münich, Germany,

we have had access to the true originals of these unique photographs. We have

produced a series of high quality fine art prints that are as close as possible

to the original artwork. We present a selection of art prints, greeting cards,

notebooks and gift tags that can be used in your home or as a perfect gift.

karl blossfeldt 1865–1932. These captivating macro photographs of nature reveal patterns and shapes that surround us every day, and they are just as beautiful and modern now as they were in 1926 when they were first shown to the public at an exhibition in Berlin. After the exhibition the humble artist, then 63yearold art teacher Karl Blossfeldt from Germany, published the photo graphic collection Urformen der Kunst (1928) which came to be one of the most important and influential photo books of the 20th century.
