What is the JSNA?
• The Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) has been a statutory requirement for upper-tier Local Authorities and Primary Care Trusts since 2008
• Purpose – to analyse the health needs of the population to inform the commissioning of health, wellbeing and social care services

• Derby is ‘relatively’ deprived
• Big variation in level of deprivation across the city
• Estimated that 15% Derby households suffer ‘fuel poverty’
• Over 7,000 applicants for social housing

• One-quarter of adults smoke

• Four of the five biggest causes of death in Derby are from cancers and circulatory diseases
• Premature death from cancer in Derby higher than the national average
• Mortality rates from cardiovascular disease higher than national – but are reducing
• Emergency admissions for stroke higher in Derby than England average

Child health and wellbeing
• Derby is better than the national average:- % children participating in 3 hours sport- GCSE pass rate (5A*-C)
