J.C. Millan broke a scoreless e with a two-run single in the fourth inning. Brandon Sandoval’s RBI single in the boom of the fourth cut the Jacksonville lead to one. In the fiſth, a Jack Kruger two-run base hit put Mobile ahead. In the eighth, Corey Bird scored on a passed ball to e the score at three. Of Jacksonville’s last 25 games heading into play on Sunday, 18 have been decided by two runs or fewer. The Jumbo Shrimp have won 10 of these 18 contests. ‘PEN PALS The Jumbo Shrimp bullpen finally saw their scoreless innings streak come to an end at 21 in the ninth inning on Friday at Mobile. That roll came right on the heels of a 14-frame scoreless streak that was snapped with an unearned run on Sunday. Thus, Jacksonville relievers went 36 frames in a row without yielding an earned run. Over the last 23 games, Jumbo Shrimp relief pitchers have tossed 81.1 innings with just nine runs, eight earned, for a 0.89 ERA. ABOUT KOLTON

-Born in Layton, Utah, Mahoney grew up a fan of the Boston Red Sox. He was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 23rd round of the 2014 draft, but elected to return to Brigham Young University for his senior season. The New York Yankees then picked Mahoney with their 16th round selection in 2015.

-On March 7, 2014, Mahoney tossed the seventh no-hitter in BYU history, striking out 11 in a 5-0 victory over Nichools State. He walked two in a 102-pitch performance, the Cougars’ first no-hitter since John DeSilva’s gem in 1989 against Colorado State.

-An Eagle Scout growing up, Mahoney served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to Santa Rosa, California.

2019 SEASON

-Over his first six appearances of the season from April 6 through April 24, Mahoney surrendered four runs, two earned, on 11 hits in 16.0 innings for a 1.13 ERA (10 K, 9 BB). However, in the 10 appearances with Jacksonville since then, the right-hander has yielded 12 runs, all earned, on 21 hits in 23.2 frames for a 4.56 ERA (28 K, 7 BB).

-Mahoney was assigned to Triple-A New Orleans on July 1. He pitched 5.2 innings of two-run ball in a relief appearance before being reassigned to Jacksonville on July 6.

2018 SEASON

-In 15 games, including seven starts, in the first half of the season, Mahoney went 3-3 with a 3.25 ERA. Over 52.2 innings, he surrendered 58 hits and 15 walks against 39 strikeouts. However, in 14 appearances, four of them starts, after the All-Star Break, Mahoney posted an 0-6 record and 5.65 ERA (36.2 IP, 48 H, 8 BB, 28 K).

2017 SEASON-Three days after receiving his release from the New York Yankees’ organization, the Miami Marlins signed Mahoney as a minor league free agent.

2016 SEASON-Mahoney posted reverse platoon splits in 2016. Righties batted .341/.391/.488 (.879 OPS) in 136 plate appearances. However, Mahoney held southpaw sluggers to a .204/.368/283 (.551 OPS) line in 123 plate appearances.

2015 SEASON-During his first professional season, Mahoney showed reverse platoon splits. He held lefties to a .213/.241/.238 (.478 OPS) line in 85 plate appearances. However, right-handed hitters slashed .250/.314/.344 (.658 OPS) over 140 plate appearances.

ADDITIONAL CAREER NOTES-The son of Tim and Linda Mahoney, Kolton’s brother, Daren, also played baseball at Weber State University in Utah.
