MARKET SHARE
The Market Share facility located in Greenpoint, Brooklyn is to be a community based, shared-use commercial kitchen where culinary enthusiasts can grow, share, and distribute fresh foods. By incorporating food retail, production, and education under one roof, the mission of Market Share is to foster the growth of small local businesses and provide a public center for gathering around the making of food.
Freshly prepared foods made on site and demonstrations from guest chefs, restaurant partners, and Market Share members.

CONSTRUCTABILITY
Cycle Architecture, as a part of Market Share, has in the past designed shipping containers for several functions, from small rural cabins to a stacked music venue. Through these projects, we have become familiar with the container’s inherent properties and limitations, enabling us to create simple yet intelligent designs. Key features for the Market Share container include:
• Offset hinges for simple operation and flush closing• All heavy panels are counterweighted and slide-locked for safe operation• All exposed panel edges are rubber coated for safety• Glass panels and skylights are inserted for natural light • The container closes completely for security when not in use

DESIGN QUALITY
The container is segmented into two distinct zones. One is for the display and sale of our member products, which are showcased on shelves and in cases. The other is a kitchen space that accommodates rotating menus by different makers and partners of Market Share. The transformative strategy of the design promotes an openness and interaction between makers, chefs, and the surrounding customers.
COMMUNITY IMPACT
Market Share came about by way of community support. The untimely closing of the Greenpoint Food Market left hundreds of could-be small food businesses without a home for their inventions. One of Market Share’s core tenants is to provide our members with accessible space for classes, food-related events, tastings, and supper clubs. This container is part of the outreach for our member community to get their products to market.
SUSTAINABILITY
The container for Market Share is a showcase for local producers who are encouraged to source their ingredients locally. The design is already within a recycled shipping container. Reclaimed lumber, no emission panels, low-E coatings and recycled material will be used throughout. The service-ware and packaging of Market Share products are to be entirely compostable or reused.
ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Entrepreneurship is at the core of Market Share. Our goal is to provide a turn-key solution for food entrepreneurs who seek to get their products into the marketplace. The design of this submission enables makers by providing both a place for their goods to be sold and a stage to showcase their culinary skills. The container will help to make this process of entrepreneurship as simple and effective as possible.
