We have several shops that offer table bling for your vintage tastes in design. The look you desire will be sure to benefit from a piece or two of ours. Next up are the many graduations of our children, grandchildren and a variety of friends and family members. This offers the chance to honor our youth on one of the most important days in their lives. With each year that passes we struggle to find the perfect gift. What do kids like nowadays? Heres a hintmost young people appreciate a unique vintage item! Its something theyll be able to use forever. And, for those finicky characters, we offer gift certificates as wellsimply insert them into their graduation card. Youll be the favorite gift giver, we promise! Finally, today and tomorrow we celebrate Memorial Day. Its a quiet day of remembrance that bursts into the heat of summer with a vengeance. Whether it be a single, red rose in a room full of classic antiques or a shabby chic room filled with an explosion of flowers; flora plays a part in decorating.
Experts say real flowers are the only way to go, but I disagree. Admittedly, a vase of fresh flowers from my garden makes me a happy camper. Theres always a downside thoughthey eventually die.
Silk flowers are beautiful forever. Theyre inexpensive and can be recycled as necessary. They can be used as a magnificent centerpiece on your dining room table or as a supporting cast member in your mantle dcor. The options are literally endless.
We have master floral artists at Norwood who have arranged their displays perfectly. Stop by soon to see if we can inspire you to add to your homes interior design with some of our beautiful arrangements. See you soon!
This month I have a couple of furniture
repair tips for you.
We all have our favorite pieces of wood
furniture that occasionally need a bit of
sprucing up.
Ever had a water ring on your favorite
table? Apply mayonnaise liberally over
the water ring and leave overnight, then
wipe off with a soft dry cloth the next
day. Voila! The water ring will be
banished.
Scratches on a piece of wood furniture
can be the bane of your existence.
Crayola to the rescue! Select the right
color and melt a small amount. Work the
melted wax into the scratch or nick until
concealed.
Cheers for now!

The month of May is generally the time of year when we honor and pay homage to those who have passed on before us. Most of us will visit their resting place and decorate with flowers. I, too, will do this but, Ive also made it a practice to honor my loved ones by displaying their heirloom pieces that I had packed away for safe keeping. Were all guilty of saving it for later. What exactly is later? When will later be? Will it be when we have guests over for dinner? Or when Aunt Sue plans to stop by? Or never? I say, later is now. What better time to honor your ancestors than today? Dig that china out of the basement, find Grandmas handiwork, grab the silver candlesticks and use them all. Display them proudly and without worry. The only regret you should have is that you havent done this sooner.

Honor with Heirlooms
GNOMES Frolic der Fruhling! Happy spring! Part of the
spring time ritual is gardening. Within some of our gardens is a two hundred year tradition of
decorating with the enchanted helpers who assist us, the Garden Gnome. Part of collective
memory going back for 1,500 years in Eastern and Western European folklore, we find that
gnomes originated in Scandinavia, later migrating to the lowlands of Europe.
The gnomes first recorded appearance in England was around the 1840s at the estate of Sir Charles Isham, the 10
th Baronet of Lamport
Hall.
Originally made from terracotta and passed down through the generations, gnomes were
looked upon as assisting with the gardens and watching over livestock. Germans placed gnomes in the rafters of their barns for just this reason. Thought to bring good luck, gnomes
symbolize integrity, honesty along with being hard workers. Living in complete harmony
with the earth and having peace towards all beings, gnomes fell from popularity during
WWII. Once again they gained attention in the 1960s with the ease of plastic manufacturing.
Consisting of different types, the most common
being the forest gnome. Consisting of three general types, there are worker gnomes
equipped with tools, leisure gnomes often in a
relaxed posture with items of relaxation. And, the youngest, the cultural gnome, with items
showing interest in culture and education.
No matter what the type of gnome within your garden, know that you are following a rich
history of using the, for decoration, protection and a bit of whimsy.
Youll find gnomes at Norwood. Theyre placed where youll least expect them. Enjoy the hunt.
