ConclusionsConclusions

Introduction of a new geodetic datum has beena major taskMost municipalities have the intentions to change datum, but only large municipalitieshave the means of doing it on their ownThe Geodata-cooperation project has been a presupposition for a successful implementationboth regarding economic and planning aspectsSupport from the NMCA is essential to ensurethat the task is carried out in an efficient and proper way

The main purpose of the SATREF augmentation system is to eliminate the effect of the different error sources in the GNSS satellite system

Correction data

SATREF® controlcentreRawGNSS position

Raw data from base-stations

GNSS survey based on one ofthe SATREF services MPOS, DPOS or CPOS

NetworkNetwork--GPSGPS

Network-GPS are operated in the same way as traditional GPS, except that the need for your own base station is eliminated. Instead a VRS (Virtual Reference Station) is generated.

The 6 base stations closest to the rover are used to generate a VRS.

Generally good response from usersExamples:

Accuracy/initialisation – very goodOperation is stableGood user support

Benefits for users:Less preliminary work for surveying, less field workNo need for own expensive base stationNo need to secure own base station (e.g. against vandalism)Reduced need for maintenance of national network of fixed fiducial marksNo base station operational costsNo need for specially trained staffNetwork solution – makes economic sense and guarantees quality

LongLong term term benefitsbenefits ofof thetheestablishment establishment ofof newnew coordinatecoordinate

systemsystem

The development of technologies for doingprecise measurements has been revolutionizedby the introduction of GPS (future Galileo and Compas)

NGO48 Accuracy does not satisfy therequirements given by the new technology

Deformations and errors were constantlyrevealed by GPS in NGO48, leading to expensive efforts

Page 20: Norwegian experiences and views regarding national coordinate system · Norwegian experiences and views regarding national coordinate system Implementation of ETRS in Slovenia Ljubljana

WhyWhy a a newnew system?system?

Exchange of all types of digital data in a commonhomogenius (seemless) system

Most of European countries have changed or are about to change to a new system based on ETRS89

INSPIRE European regulations for exchange of data in ETRS89

Requests from Geodata partners for seemlesscoordinates

TransportRoad administrationEnergy sectorNorth-sea activities

Page 21: Norwegian experiences and views regarding national coordinate system · Norwegian experiences and views regarding national coordinate system Implementation of ETRS in Slovenia Ljubljana

WhyWhy a a newnew system?system?( ( continuescontinues))

For implementation of high quality GPS basedpositioning systems (Cpos in Norway)

All public maps are in the same datum and projectionsystem (seemless)

EUREF89- accuracy satisfies todays and future needs for all kind of practical surveying

General use of GPS in the society

Need for common navigation system internationally
