“Be here…now.”- Ram Dass, Be Here Now

By Gina TatsumiWe are all on a spiritual journey, whether we recognize it or not, is another matter.Often times in my spiritual Reiki practice I have come across people trying to findtheir path. It was through the suggestion of such a journeying, answer seeking clientthat compelled me to begin to write for “The Lakewood Observer”... Alas…hmmm…where to begin.

What grand message do I have to offer? What pearls of wisdom can I, little old me,bestow upon my fellow journey seekers? As I lie awake pondering such a quest, itoccurred to me that I was trying to define an experience to share. That moment oftime that changed my life, or brought me wisdom, or helped me find my path. It wasin trying to find that “moment”, that it hit me. It’s all about The Moment. Thismoment…right here…right now.

I had received a copy of the book “Be Here Now” by Ram Dass. His quotes aresimple, yet elusive. I am not suggesting that we all need to travel off to faraway landsof mystery and psychedelics filled with gurus high atop mountains to have such amoment. These times can come to us every day, in every moment. We just need topay attention.

When we become more mindful, through such practices of Yoga, meditation, Reiki, and prayer, perhaps that is when we can beginto lose so much. Lose you say? Why yes. Lose. We begin tolose our worry, our guilt, our pain, our shame, and ourfeelings of despair. If we consider that we are trulycomprised of energy, and that we are spirithaving a human experience, well now, that my friends...is a game changer.(And also a topic for anothertime.)

Page 5: Northwest Ohio Reiki Magazine - February Issue

When we allow ourselves to get caught upin a moment, we can experience things ona much deeper level. Open our senses toour surroundings. The breeze of warmthon a sunny day, the birds, or the sounds ofwaves crashing, can all help to create anddefine our moments.

Often times we are facing a difficultsituation, someone will say, “Well ya’know, when a door shuts, a window isopened.” And yet somehow, we becomeso stuck on the door is shut.

We panic― Oh, the window is open…Oh!Hey! The window is open! By trying to bemore mindful of our space, and our time,in this moment, we are allowing ourselvesto recognize that everything connects. And perhaps in that connectedness wecan truly begin to experience ourmoments.

And perhaps through our own momentsof being more mindful, we can gainappreciation for the small things. Thosefleeting moments are to become a merememory.

When we can begin to look through the troubles of life as a spiritualexperience, it can help us come to realize that everything can and doeshappen to us for a reason. Sometimes for our best interest, sometimes in spiteof us thinking we are doing the best things. I am constantly telling myself thatthis or that too, shall pass. The only constant is change. And it comes quickly, fleetingly.

As a parent, it seemed as if my children would always be small sticky fingered, crying (sometimes) bundles of exhausting joy. And yet, it was a mere momentin time. They are now fully grown productive adults on their own paths, journeys. But I digress.

Love is a State of BeingBy: Elaine Melody Hiatt

Songs are written, poems are created, tales have been woven, and myths havebeen founded on the topic of love.Spiritual traditions all espouse the powerof love. Yet the concept of love remains anenigma to most. There is romantic love, love for a family member, a friend, a pet,and even chocolate. These all refer to loveas an emotional feeling. I believe thedeepest meaning of love is:understanding love as a state of being.

A state of being is foundational. It doesnot come and go as the ebbs and flows ofemotion. You can have many feelings in agiven day, but a state of being providesgrounding, an anchor for theimpermanent nature of physicality. In astate of being of love, I can experiencepleasure, sadness, grief, anger, and joy -‐ amyriad of surface feelings that are part ofthe nature of human existence. Yetanchored in the state of love, I can trustthat all is well, even when it feels it is not.

Love as a state of being is our deepest nature, our most natural state. It is like the seabedover which all life flows. When we connect with this state of being we are not only in love, but we are Love.

How do we access this? Finding the ways that work best for us is part of the journey. Forsome it is being quiet in nature, feeling that deep peace and joy that arises as we rest inthat space. For others it may be in some method of meditation, prayer, focusing onappreciation, or simply petting our dog. It always involves quieting our mind in some wayand allowing ourselves to feel who we are instead of thinking about it.

"I believe the deepest meaning of love is:understanding love as a state of being."

Page 7: Northwest Ohio Reiki Magazine - February Issue

Initially, emotions may arise that we have suppressed. If we can let thosesimply flow through us, allowing these to just be experienced without arunning commentary, not creating or telling a story about “why” we feelwhat we do, these energies will dissipate. It’s the naming of these energiesand insisting on stories about them that causes us to get stuck in them.Energy flows when unimpeded.

As these energies subside, we sink into stillness, and there we find relieffrom the frenzied madness of the world. It was within us all along, justpatiently being. The relationship we have been seeking is the relationshipwith our real self, which is not a personality but this expansive being ofLove. Like any relationship, it strengthens as we give time to it. We returnto the world rejuvenated, smiling, and sharing this gift simply by bringingback this aura of love with us, like a chocolate covered strawberry for thesoul.

This delicious energy then infuses us, and love becomes not only a state ofbeing, but expresses as a verb. Love acts in the world. We have returnedchanged, and the world changes with us. This is the single most loving actwe can do, immerse ourselves in the truth of our being, Love, and allow it

"We have returned changed, andthe world changes with us."

6 Self Love is a JourneyBy: Teresa Bartchlett

Self -‐love is not taught to most. It seems likeit should be a natural but it can be difficult tounderstand the importance of self -‐love. Ifsomeone were to ask you: “Do you loveyourself?” You would say yes only becauseafter you think about it, you don’t hateyourself so you must love yourself, right? No,not true. If we treated our friends the way wetreat ourselves we would not have friends. Matt Kahn’s channelings at “true divine

nature” opened my mind and my heart. Ididn’t realize the importance of self -‐loveuntil I started to feel it. At first, it feels weirdto tell yourself “ I love you”, but eventually itbegins to feel good. The process, and Ibelieve it is a process, starts by not onlytelling yourself “I love you” but by makingchoices with feelings, your heart. By doingthings that are good for you like eatinghealthier, respecting your body, exercise, getting healing work done on yourself, etc.

That could mean different things fordifferent people but the bottom line isthis. The more you love and acceptyourself, the higher you vibrate and inreturn the more positive experiences andpeople you attract. If you want all thethings that are your birthright like goodhealth, prosperity, success, goodrelationships it all starts within with selflove.

"What lies behind us andwhat lies before us are tinymatters compared to whatlies within us."- Ralph Waldo Emerson

"You yourself, as much asanybody in the entireuniverse, deserve your love &affection."-Buddha

"Love is the great miracle cure. Loving ourselves worksmiracles in our lives."- Louise L. Hay

"I celebrate myself, andsing myself."- Walt Whitman

Ingredients¥ 10 oz. Happy Water¥ 1 Green Tea Bag (1-‐3t)¥ 1 Garlic Clove, minced¥ 1/2t Fresh Ginger Root, slicedminced/grated¥ Lemon Juice, to taste

¥ Honey, to tasteMethod¥ Combine first four ingredients in a sauce pan¥ Bring to a rolling boil¥ Reduce heat to simmer

¥ Continue to simmer over low heat for 10 minutes

¥ Strain into mug (compost the used tea, garlic & ginger)

¥ Add lemon juice and honey

¥ Enjoy as often as desired

This is a great recipe because on the average day, most people can find the majority ofthese ingredients in their pantry. However, if you don’t have these items on hand, goout and pick them up. They are relatively inexpensive and even fresh, theseingredients keep quite a long time.

Fresh, local and organic ingredients are the best choice, but you may also choose to usedried garlic or dried or crystalized ginger in a pinch. Bottled lemon juice can also be anoption. Basically what I am saying is “Work with what you’ve got.”

Also, be sure to get plenty of rest and find ways to respond more positively to thestressors in your life (even if that is to simply ignore them). Enjoy & be well!

Celestite supports the crown and throat chakras, allowing access to the higher vibrations andcommunication of the angelic realms. Therefore it is awonderful stone for those receiving, translating andsharing messages from the angels. It is a beautifuland gentle stone that seeks to assist us in clarity ofthought and verbal expression.

Ohio Celestite is greatly sought after as a “healingstone of our time” due to it’s ability to heal, balance& strengthen our throat chakra -‐ ultimatelyallowing us to speak our greatest truth to theworld. Celestite from Madagascar is known for it’sdeep rich color and uniquely “speak yourunconditional love-‐ing” energy.

When using Celestite in a crystal lay out, she mostoften wishes to be placed on or around the throatchakra, as she wants to imbue our words andcommunication (with others, as well as withourselves) with a clear understanding of love &compassion.

The Heart Chakra - AnahataBy: John Wheeler

Chakra of the Month: 9

Symbols of the Heart Chakra:Color -‐ GreenCrystals -‐ Green Aventurine,Rose QuartzLocation -‐ Center of ChestBody -‐ Thymus GlandSense -‐ Touch

Signs of imbalance in the heart chakra include chestpains, high/low blood pressure and poorcirculation. When your heart chakra is under-‐activeyou will tend to hang onto negative feelings, feelings of loneliness, unworthy of love andunappreciated. If you have an over-‐active heartcenter you may have extreme emotions such assadness, anger, despair and greediness. You mayalso have large shifts in emotions. People withoveractive heart chakras also show co-‐dependencyissues.

When you find yourself with an unbalanced heartchakra you must first recognize what imbalanceyou are experiencing. Begin to consider your lovefor yourself and your relationships with others. Doyou have a relationship where you are giving morelove than you receive? Are you place a wall aroundyour heart and refusing to open yourself to others? When you find this imbalance, listen to somesoothing music while laying a rose quartz on yourchest or say daily affirmations about your strengthand love.

Affirmations of the Month: 11

"I am completely andunconditionally loving of myselfand through this I have love forothers."When we love ourselves completey we are ableto improve our relationships with other. If wecannot love outselves we cannot expect anyoneto love us. While loving ourselves is difficult, itis not impossible and this great affirmation is afantastic way to start the healing process.

"My heart is large, my heart ishealthy and my heart isconnected to the world."Constantly allowing ourselves to be ofservice to others is a great way to maintainour connection to the world. When we areable to see that our small changes make aworld of difference, we can change the worldaround us. Every action we take creates aripple effect. This affirmation is a nice way toconnect with the world around us andcontinue to build a web of love in a world fullof darkness.

What others say about Elaine: I first heard Elaine Melody Hiatt speak at aSand, Sea and Spirit workshop. I was drawn by the title of her talk:"Embodying Truth". As soon as she started speaking, I was mesmerized.Statements of knowledge and truth were flowing out of her mouth in rapidfire succession. I was blown away. I couldn't write fast enough. She ownedwhat she was saying! In a world that feeds us a steady diet of pablum, whatElaine offers is spiritual meat. She is extremely wise and her understanding oflife and spiritual principals is married with the experience of a Master. In atleast 3 subsequent counseling sessions with her, she shared so much truthwith me that continues to help me. Equally important, I knew in our sessionsthat she was not judging me and was intuiting important information.
