Beautiful Camp Wa Wa Segowea is nestled in the southwest corner of Massachusetts in the scenic Berkshire Mountains. We are located in Southfield, MA, just over an hour’s drive from Albany and Poughkeepsie, New York, as well as Harford and Fairfield Counties in Connecticut

Segowea is the Best Place Ever

At Wa Wa Segowea campers become who they were meant to be. They develop the ability to be genuine, relax, have fun, and really connect with others. They develop self-confidence and self-respect as they make new friends, meet challenges, and learn to cooperate. They assume daily responsibilities, from making beds and setting tables to choosing and planning activities. The rhythm of camp balances group activities with individual pursuits, and education with recreation. There is time to learn, play, and just be. And there is always time to talk about what matters.

Camp Wa Wa Segowea serves hundreds of campers from near and far. They stay for as little as one week and as long as most of the summer. In addition to the great staff, campers love the FOOD and the setting and the myriad of activities available every day – from enjoying waterfront activities on the 23-acre private lake to exploring the nearly 500 acres of camp-owned wilderness. Each week includes time for building friendships, connecting as a community, caring for the camp, and reflecting on how the values and experiences of camp can carry on throughout the year and into the greater community of our world.

THREE WAYS TO EXPERIENCE CAMP

In our safe and fun environment, we believe every camper should have the opportunity to:

• Learn new skills, experience new things and make new friends • Explore and appreciate nature in a beautiful outdoor setting• Develop healthy, supportive relationships with peers and mentors• Be accepted for who they are• Increase self-confidence, self-reliance and self-esteem• Expand their sense of responsibility for the shared experiences of the community

Resident/Overnight Camp Boys and Girls - Ages 7-14The Northwest CT Y continues the wonderful traditions of this historic camp, celebrating 100 years of providing incredible overnight camping experiences to children from throughout the region. During each session, campers will grow and learn, and develop memories for a lifetime.

Day CampBoys and Girls - Ages 6-14For those campers who are looking for the full camp experience but wish to be at home each night, Day Camp is the way to go. Day Campers take part in virtually every activity offered at Wa Wa Segowea, including a hot lunch each day. Bus transportation is provided from selected locations (see more on page 6).

Leader in Training (LIT) ProgramBoys and Girls Ages 15-16Teens with the ambition to lead will spend parts of each day exploring and expanding their skills under the direction of experienced staff, with opportunities to put their new skills into action by assisting staff with our younger campers. Segowea is a “Home Away From Home”Up to eight campers, a counselor, and an assistant counselor or a leader-in-training (LIT) make our cozy cabins home for the session. Groups of cabins form separate boys’ and girls’ villages. A central bathhouse is located just steps away for showers and rest rooms. The summer camp community shares three meals a day served family style in the dining hall or at a lake side barbeque.

New Camp DirectorJoshua Scott has been involved with camping for his entire career, helping to run some of the top YMCA camps from North Carolina, to Maine, to Pennsylvania. Combined with some of our favorite returning staff, 2013 promises to the best summer ever!

Caring StaffCamp Wa Wa Segowea is committed to providing children with the most positive experience possible. Only the most impressive applicants are selected to staff the camp. Counselors are college-age young adults who care about children. They are loving, patient, responsible, dedicated to teaching and they like sharing safe outdoor fun! Counselors are certified in first aid and CPR and complete a staff training prior to each summer.

New Fun for 2013!As if campers needed any more reasons to join us at Wa Wa this summer, we are installing a brand new feature at our waterfront: a massive aqua trampoline! That’s right - more safe water fun to enhance the already incredible summer ahead. Do you dare take the plunge?

Connecting With Nature and Each OtherSpending the summer exploring Camp Wa Wa Segowea’s 500 acres of forest and private lake will reconnect your child with nature and expand their appreciation and love for the outdoors. With the electronic distractions of the world left behind, each camper will enjoy the fun, interpersonal experiences we cherish from our own childhood. This is what being a kid was meant to be.

Camp Wa Wa Segowea has extensive programming that includes time on the water and in the woods, on our athletic fields and in our historic lodge. Our own private lake is the perfect setting for all kinds of waterfront activities. The entire Camp participates in the daily “Community Circle” which is a time of community and connection. New and traditional camp songs are sung, the Y core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility are presented, and discussions about how to link the good things at Camp with the wider world are fostered.
