This Celebration Is Part of Month-Long “October in the Ville”

Outdoor Public Art Display Featuring More Than 120 Skeletons Transforms Downtown Northville Into A ‘Halloween Boneyard’ Through October 31.

It’s almost that time of the year! Downtown Northville will once again welcome more than 120 life-sized themed Skeletons – created by Begonia Brothers of Northville – to town for the month of October. The skeletons arrival will be kicked off with the Skeletons are Alive Launch Party. The FREE celebration, which is open to the public, takes place on Friday, October 4 from 6:00 - 9:00 pm in Town Square (across from the Marquis Theatre on Main Street). The evening feature music, food trucks and entertainment.

Residents and friends of Northville are invited to get into the Halloween spirit by dressing up in Halloween costumes to join the festivities with the presenting sponsor, Next Home All Pro Realty and the Northville Downtown Development Authority to welcome the boney guests to the downtown during the annual celebration. Guests may see a rock star, construction worker, weightlifter, a starlet and a fisherman among the skeletons. You may even see a skeleton on bended knee proposing to his sweetheart. The Skeletons are Alive Launch Party on October 4 also features a dance performance by Piazza Dance Studio and live music from The Blue Cat Band throughout the evening.

While enjoying the entertainment, guests can enjoy kettle corn from Mystic Kettle, cider and doughnuts from Parmenter’s Cider Mill, coffee from Sweet Brew n Spice Café and appetizers from 160 Main. The evening will also feature food trucks along Main Street, including Slows to Go (BBQ), Hero or Villain (sandwiches), Ray’s Red Hots (hot dogs) and Bigalora Wood Fire Pizza (pizza).

While on site, guests can get a creation from the balloon artist or visit the photo booth from Simply Photo Booths from 6-9 p.m. Good to Glow also returns with glow novelties and toys for purchase. The Ypsilanti Ghostbusters will also be on site and you can take pictures with them. The face painting station, a paid activity, will also be on-site again from 6:00 - 8:00 pm.

Event attendees can stroll through town and also enjoy the First Friday Experience hosted by the downtown Northville galleries, shops & restaurants.

The Skeletons love taking selfies and having their pictures taken too. Visitors are invited to snap their picture with the skeletons while they are in town during the month of October and share on the Downtown Northville Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/DowntownNorthville). Photos shared on Facebook should be appropriate and family-friendly otherwise they will be removed from the page.

For more information on the Skeletons are Alive Launch Party and all fall events happening during “October in the Ville,” visit www.downtownnorthville.com.

Fall Fun for All at Maybury Farm! The 10-acre Maybury Farm Corn Maze opens September 27 and families can enjoy the Great Pumpkin Festival on October 12 & 13. Autumn has arrived and if you are looking for an outing that the whole family will enjoy, search no further than Northville’s own Maybury Farm! Maybury Farm hosts a number of fun fall activities including an annual corn maze and Great Pumpkin Festival. This year’s family-friendly corn maze begins on September 27

and promises to be one of the best that Maybury Farm has ever created—it is 10 acres of thick, lush corn that features a brand-new design. The full maze is 9-acres and is sure to challenge adults and kids alike. The corn maze will take an estimated one hour to complete. Also, this year we have a Kids Maze that is approximately 1 acre and will take an estimated 20 minutes to complete so it’s perfect for little ones! For those who want to try something a little more tricky--the Maybury Farm corn maze is open until 10:00 pm on Fridays and Saturdays so you may attempt to find your way through in the dark with just the moon to guide your way. Once you’ve found your way through the maze, head back to the Maybury Farm General Store to enjoy fresh delicious Parmenter’s cider and donuts, along with other tasty treats. October is also the last month to visit the Maybury Farm animals before the Farm closes for the season. The barn will be open until 7:00 pm Friday through Sunday during corn maze. For groups of 25 or more who would like to schedule a weeknight or weekend outing, call (248) 374-0200 to reserve your date! Maybury Farm also offers bonfires that are available during regular business hours or as part of a group reservation. The Maybury Farm Corn Maze is open on Fridays from 5:00 pm - 10:00 pm, Saturdays from 12:00 - 10:00 pm and Sundays from 12:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The last wagon leaves for the maze one hour prior to close. The Corn Maze runs through November 3rd 2019. Admission to the Maybury Farm corn maze is $9 per person and includes farm admission and a tractor-drawn wagon ride to and from the maze. Children under 2 are free. Maybury Farm is operated by the Northville Community Foundation; the funds raised from the corn maze are used to help support the work of the Farm, and its mission of connecting the community to animals and agriculture. But wait, there’s more! Mark your calendars for October 12 & 13 when Maybury Farm will host the 6th Annual Great Pumpkin Festival from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm. This entertaining autumn event is TWO DAYS and features live music, delicious food, pumpkin-themed games and activities for kids and families, and much more. Highlights include pie pumpkin painting, bonfire and s’mores, storytime and sing-a-long, children’s activity stage and beeswax candle making. Juror Tony Roko made selections based on art and artists that pushed the boundaries of art imagery, practices, and theory. Boundaries include those set by traditional techniques, materials, concepts, art history, genre, subject matter, personal experiences, and societal norms. Artists were also encouraged to explore and employ new techniques, technologies, and media to create compelling two- and three-dimensional artworks. West of Center received over 160 submissions from 58 artists. The selected artists include: Jean-Paul Aboudib, Emily Adelman, Jim Aho, David Bartlett, Kathleen Boettcher, Irina Bondarenko, Stephen Boni, Marian Burghiu, Keith Christmas, Christina Czaja, Pamela Day, Took Gallagher, Naomi Hart, Claudia Hershman, Peggy Kerwan, WanChuan Kesler, Viviane Kluska, Zach Koch, Maria Latour, Rosemary Lee, Travis Matchulat, Janet McClintock, Patricia O’Brien, Heather O’Donnell, Vickie Peterson, Dean

About the Juror, Tony RokoFrom factory floors to gallery walls, Tony Roko’s signature portraits celebrate the human figure with vivid, brilliant colors inspired by Detroit’s industrial past. Roko’s career began when he was pulled off the Ford assembly line to paint murals in an effort to boost plant morale. With exposure to industrial coatings, brilliant safety colors began to appear in his work – becoming his unique, emotive voice. In addition to being named Detroit’s Best Fine Artist for five consecutive years, Roko has painted commissions for Jay Leno, Lady Gaga, and the Holocaust Museum. Roko was selected to create a series of paintings to act as the new face of Atwater Brewery, bringing the Detroit company’s signature brews and spirits to 30 states and European markets. In 2017, Tony founded the Art Foundation, a non-profit organization fostering creative minds. Roko’s enthusiasm and passion for his craft have helped him to connect with diverse groups through the medium of painting, including partnerships with the Karmanos Healing Arts Cancer Survivor programs, the Rhonda Walker Foundation for young women, and Wolverine Human Services’ Juvenile Detention program.

Commemorative Bench Program Downtown Northville is offering a new Commemorative Bench Program! Dedicating a bench is a wonderful way to support your downtown, honor a loved one, or celebrate an occasion. These generous donations allow the Downtown Development Authority to provide and maintain attractive seating throughout the downtown. The six foot long, black bench is made of cast aluminum and is powder coated to prevent rust. The bench will be mounted to the concrete. A custom-cast plaque is flush mounted in the backrest of the bench. The plaque measures 8” X 3” and can accommodate 3 lines of text. Cost per bench is $2,000.00. For additional information please contact Lori Ward at the Northville downtown Development Authority office at (248) 349-0345 or email [email protected].
