NorthStar ACE® – Advanced Connected EnergyThe NorthStar ACE® batteries use Bluetooth to wirelessly transmit status information, including voltage and temperature, to either a smartphone, a tablet or a NorthStar ACE® Gateway. Inside the gateway the data is analyzed before transmitting the results to NorthStar ACE® Central or to an ACE Ready Power System. From there, users can see key battery data including estimated reserve time of a site, i.e. how many hours of backup the site can provide.

NorthStar ACE® SiteThe NorthStar ACE® Site App allows users to communicate wirelessly with the NorthStar ACE® batteries using an Android or Apple device. The NorthStar ACE® batteries will transmit real time performance data to the App and display it to the user.

During installation, NorthStar ACE® Site will guide the technician through the process of installing the batteries and optionally connect them to the NorthStar ACE® Gateway and NorthStar ACE® Central. The system automatically generates a comprehensive installation report covering all steps including site pictures, critical installation steps, battery data and more.

NorthStar ACE® batteries use integrated sensors which enables them to measure, store and communicate information without any wires via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). The solution requires minimal power and does not affect the overall performance or functionality of the batteries.

NorthStar ACE® batteries are programmed with key data during production and the sensors can, amongst other things, log temperature and voltage during the lifetime of the batteries.

NorthStar ACE® Central is a user-friendly online portal where battery data and information is collected, stored and analyzed. It is designed to provide a top-down view of the entire battery population, both in warehouse and at sites.

As an example, some parts of the world have government regulations stating that a certain amount of backup time is required in case of a power outage. With NorthStar ACE® Central users can easily see the estimated reserve time for all sites.

In order to prolong the battery life, NorthStar ACE® Central is able to automatically send out notifications when batteries are outside customer defined conditions, e.g. high temperature or over/under voltage.

For asset tracking, knowing which batteries have been installed at a certain site can be a time consuming manual process. In NorthStar ACE® Central, each and every battery is automatically connected to a specific site, eliminating uncertainties regarding location and status.

The NorthStar ACE® Gateway collects data from multiple ACE batteries, calculates their performance and sends the information to NorthStar ACE® Central and/or a NorthStar ACE® Ready Power System. The gateway can work in two different operational modes; site mode or warehouse mode.

In site mode there is typically one gateway per site that calculates the battery performance, including estimated reserve time. Using either the uplink or WAN connection (3G/Ethernet) it sends information to NorthStar ACE® Central or communicates locally with a NorthStar ACE® Ready Power System via one of the other communication ports, e.g. RS-485. The benefits with the power system integration include automatic settings for optimal battery life for that particular battery model, e.g. float, boost and equalization charge settings.

Manually having to individually measure batteries in a warehouse is time consuming and costly. In warehouse mode, the NorthStar ACE®

Gateway automatically detects all NorthStar ACE® batteries and sends the information to NorthStar ACE® Central. A user can then easily check the status of the batteries via a normal web-browser and retrieve data such as OCV, temperature and time remaining until recharge is needed. One individual gateway can monitor up to 2,000 batteries and for large warehouses multiple gateways can be used.
