● NVRC Superintendents are scheduled to meet with CAOs at 5 p.m. on June 17 ○ Share information about schedules/models under consideration and discuss potential common
approaches○ Share information regarding compliance with Virginia Return to School Plan and discuss
potential common approaches○ Superintendents are invited to provide Eric Williams or Peter Noonan with feedback via email
regarding the agenda for the June 17 meeting with CAOs

- Staff are actively sharing concerns and want details about how their safety will be ensured, especially with students with intensive needs.
- How can we accommodate and shift responsibilities for staff who fall in high risk categories, and/or are unable / unwilling to return?
- What are ways we can maximize and repurpose our staff based on student need and new safety tasks? And shift to cover vacancies since attracting new staff has been challenging?
- What supports can we give our staff? (e.g. childcare)

- Students want to return and most divisions shared that they want to find a way to maximize students in schools. This includes figuring out how to use alternate / gathering spaces.
- Transportation logistics is providing more challenges than facility space, limiting % of students.
- Shift in cleaning processes + staff from evening to daytime.
- Will we be able to accommodate community use of buildings?

Group 1 Worksheet: Arlington, Alexandria, Falls Church
Something that SPARKED your thinking or resonated with you
Pose a QUESTION you are thinking about now
Highlight an OPPORTUNITY for collaboration based on the data
● Peter/Falls - A/B model had most considerations & derivatives
● William/Falls - data of employees in neighboring districts
● Terri/Alexandria - implications of getting exact data, staff not returning due to high risk
● Kristen/Falls - protect workforce● Rebecca/Fall-% of students returning
based on sq ft● Jeannette/Arlington-need to collaborate,
trickle effect● Francisco/Arlington-slide 15, different
approaches - schedule needs● Bridget/Arlington-ops lead way, getting
kids to school and cleaning, align ops with inst.
● Julia/Arlington > Alexandria-impact of workforce in neighboring districts, recruiting teaching to come back
● Cintia/Arlington - where staff live/work, want to deeper dive on data. Impact across zip codes
● Data● Sample survey to staff/parents● When you will make board
presentations, share with community and staff?
● Coordinate timing on communications
● Alexandria providing initial framework 6/26
● Falls provide overview this week and have working groups
● Alexandria 6/25 board mtg, this week was taskforce
● Collaborated to close schools in March, have experience working together already. Coordinated snow days.
● Coordindate communications to reduce confusion with community members
● Share survey approach so not to reinvent the wheel.● Collaborated around CTE / SPED programs across 3 districts
Highlight a RISK if we do NOT collaborate
● Waste time reinvent wheel● Making sure communities are educated on impact and what it might look
like.● Need alignment with Summer, will be how ppl will experience and anticipate

Group 2 Worksheet: Fairfax City, Fairfax County, Loudoun
Something that SPARKED your thinking or resonated with you
Pose a QUESTION you are thinking about now
Highlight an OPPORTUNITY for collaboration based on the data
● ● Will you provide devices for all kids K-12?
● Would K-12 all have the same virtual day?
● What about students coming in back to back days or alternating? (If keep same kids back to back days may minimize cleaning/transmission)
● What day to clean? W= middle of week so have max of 2 days in buildings
● How have you engaged your teacher associations?
● How are you messaging safety to help ease anxiety of staff and families?
● Scheduling ○ LCPS: Monday virtual for staff (some SG virtual with kids with
possible for F2F), Tuesday-Thursday in buildings ○ FCPS: leaning towards Friday virtual (with possibility of intervention
day or smaller groups of students in the building)● Bring students in by alpha ● Align surveys● Align communications
Highlight a RISK if we do NOT collaborate
● Sync and asynch times aligned● Staffing accommodations and legal (100% virtual for staff if they choose
and try to match with 100% students; may need to provide leave if don’t have enough spots)
● Transportation solutions related to bus/classroom capacity

Group 3 Worksheet: Manassas City, Manassas Park City, Prince William
Something that SPARKED your thinking or resonated with you
Pose a QUESTION you are thinking about now
Highlight an OPPORTUNITY for collaboration based on the data
● We are asking the same questions● Once we figure out how many kids we
bring in, how do we group?● Clarity around safety● Schedule for vulnerable groups (+1)
and criteria● How many individuals work and live in
different communities● Outside organizations● Substitutes
● Transportation with Distancing (+3)
● Health screenings - where and how? With privacy (+3)
● Maximize instructional time ● Social Emotional + Anxiety● Virtual or Hybrid - best
instructional delivery method, balance with kids in schools
● Our teachers compare across us for everything● Health screenings - perception of safety● Scheduling (days) - A/B thoughts for Monday - Friday● Face mask requirements● Transportation (#s per seat)
Highlight a RISK if we do NOT collaborate
● Parents perception of safety● Learning activities are more/less equitable● Losing staff to other divisions to perceptions● Losing students (all, esp ESOL) - if there’s an
opportunity to have a different schedule / more facetime may choose to move boundaries

Discuss (20 mins)Discussion, reflections, share reactions; “What are the decisions you need to make?”
6 Feet Physical Distancing Classrooms (to greatest extent possible)
● In order to keep 6 ft possible and maximize students - need masks. Need to wear masks when distancing can’t be maintained.
● Using 4ft radius to be safe with bubble, LCPS 11 students, with more space 6-7 students?●
Entering/Exiting Building●
Transportation●
Face Coverings● Requiring masks and provide. Fairfax buying for every kid and staff.● If you buy 200,000 units is there the supply? Would eat up all CARES mask, $3.● Wearing a mask all day long is irritating.
Alternative Space Usage●

Facilities Plan (20 mins)
Decisions we can make as a collaborative
Decisions we want to make as districts
6 Feet Physical Distancing Classrooms (to greatest extent possible)
● Align on 6ft of space where possible - Greatest extent possible = where possible
● Agree on 4ft circle radius
● Each building is different and work with principals on schedule
Entering/Exiting Building
● Limit visitors including parents and non-employees, and strictly access classrooms
●
Transportation● 1 per seat with mask● Use “face covering”
● ??? Policy to enforce - or collaborative???
Face Coverings● Employe use of face cover if there’s
movement● Enforcement at building level
Alternative Space Usage (if time)

Instructional Schedule
● Rolling closure considerations and development? ● Meals - anticipate continuing delivery of food in community locations● Scheduling at 50% - have you looked at measuring classrooms if 6ft?● Looking at times when students are in school, feels like we are going back to more traditional teaching
without collaboration, etc. ● What are we thinking about with students who return and don’t return and may have more opportunities of
support at home?● When scheduling - how do you find a way to bring in groups of students equitably and not just bring in
students by neighborhoods?

● Interested on Fridays as virtual day● A/B scheduling very complicated and
thinking about equity and diversity impact on how it’s designed
● ?Using HS building for ES still in discussions, transportation an issue - maybe using HS for all ES?
● Need a menu of all the schedule options to align.
● Agreed on Fridays as virtual day● Having conversations about synch/asynch
(20-30 mins synch daily)
Monday as Virtual Day (lowest impact based on holidays)
● Desire for Consistency on MS/HS → A/B Days v. Whole school days for specialty programs
