Living surrounded by forests, hills and lakes Oslo’s smallpopulation enjoys the best quality of life of any of Europe’s large cities.

At the airport, we will be met by our tour escort and taken to our hotel.After check-in, the remainder of the day is yours to enjoy at leisure.

Oslo Sightseeing ●B ●L ●DAfter breakfast, we will enjoy a guided city walking tour and take in someof Oslo’s highlights: the Viking Ship, Fram and Folklore museums, theVigeland Sculpture Park. A drive up to Holmenkollen gives us theopportunity to savour the panoramic views over the fjord along withlunch. After lunch, we will visit the Holmenkollen Ski Museum and theworld’s most modern ski jump. An afternoon at leisure in Oslo, and you willhave your “Oslo Card” on hand to catch any sights you haven’t alreadyexperienced.

Oslo to Bergen – ●B ●L ●DNorwegian Mountains & Fjords –Flåmsbanen & NærøyfjordToday we will experience one of Europe’s most picturesque journeys,travelling by train across the Hardanger Plateau, crossing its highest pointat Finse (1222m), before travelling down to the Western fjords. In Myrdal,we will join the Flåmsbanen, one of the world's steepest railway lines onnormal gauge tracks with nearly 80% of the route on a 55‰ gradient, i.e.:

Bergen Nordfjord

a rise of one meter per 18. The twisting tunnels that spiral in and out ofthe mountain are testament to skillful and daring Norwegian engineering.After this 50-minute adventure, we will enjoy lunch in Flåm before cruisingto Gudvangen on the narrow and spectacular Nærøyfjord; be amazed bythe steep valley sides that surround us and the snow-covered peaks thatrise 1,800 metres above sea level as well as the contrast of dramaticthundering waterfalls and the quiet picturesque villages scattered alongthe fjord. After arriving in Gudvangen we will transfer to Bergen to stay thenight.

Bergen – Fløibanen Funicular – ●B ●L ●DBoard Hurtigruten Cruise ShipThis morning we will explore the city of Bergen with a 3-hour guided tour.Norway’s largest city until the 1830’s Bergen has a long maritime historyand was one of the most important cities of the Hanseatic League tradingempire. We will visit the UNESCO listed Bryggen, the town’s old harborwith its colourful historic houses before taking the funicular railway upMount Fløien to enjoy panoramic views across the city and fjord.

Enjoy an afternoon at leisure before we board our Hurtigruten cruise. After embarkation, we will savour a tasty buffet dinner, based on the bestingredients from the coast. From Bergen, we will sail north along theHjeltefjord, the same route the Vikings once sailed to the Shetland Islandsand beyond. Relax as you take in the spectacular landscapes, either fromdeck or in the ship’s panorama lounges.

Cruising – Nordfjord ●B ●L ●DEarly risers will have the chance to enjoy the breathtaking beauty of theNordfjord before breakfast. As we sail past the West Cape, we willexperience a rare venture into open sea. From here the ship navigatesthrough skerries and islands before reaching Ålesund. Join the crew tohear a colourful and enlightening presentation about the Aurora Borealis– the famous Northern Lights that we are seeking.



Trondheim – Rørvik ●B ●L ●DToday we awaken in beautiful Trondheim, a former Viking capital it isconsidered Norway’s most photogenic town. Enjoy a guided tour of thebeautiful Nidaros Cathedral; built over the burial site of Norway’s patronsaint, Saint Olav, this medieval cathedral is the traditional coronation siteof all Norwegian kings. Alternatively explore the Bakkland district on footor bicycle. In the afternoon, the ship sets a northwest course, passing thebeautiful Kjeungskjær lighthouse and numerous islets and rocky outcrops.After passing through the narrow Stoksund, we arrive at the charming portvillage of Rørvik.

Cruising – Cross the Arctic Circle ●B ●L ●DThe Arctic Circle marks the border to the Arctic region and in wintertravelling above this degree of latitude provides the best chances ofexperiencing the Northern Lights. We continue sailing along the beautifulcoast of Helgeland up to Bodø and in the afternoon, we will sight the1,000m high Lofoten Wall on the horizon. The charms of the LofotenIslands are revealed in all the small, picturesque fishing villages with theirbohemian atmosphere. We celebrate the Crossing of the Arctic Circle witha presentation of ‘The Magic Light, Aurora Borealis’.

After sailing through the narrow Raftsund, we will stop at the entrance tothe enthralling Trollfjord and listen to the story of 1890 winter “Battle ofTrollfjord” whilst enjoying freshly made fish cakes on deck.



Tromsø – Cruising ●B ●L ●DToday we visit Tromsø, a major cultural hub above the Arctic Circle. Thecity’s historic centre is distinguished by its centuries-old wooden houseswhilst the 1965 Arctic Cathedral, with its distinctive peaked roof andsoaring stained-glass windows, dominates the skyline.

After an exhilarating day in Tromsø, we join our Captain on deck for atasting of stockfish, a traditional Norwegian food. We also continue ournorthbound journey in search of the breathtaking phenomenon that is theNorthern Lights.


DAY 11 Monday 12 March 2018

North Cape – Sami Culture ●B ●L ●DEnjoy the magnificent sub-Arctic landscape as we cross the 71st parallel onour journey towards the North Cape, the northernmost point on thecontinent. After brief early stops in Hammerfest and Havøysund we arrivein Honningsvåg, the gateway to the spectacular North Cape.

Our ship continues north, sailing into the heartland of the indigenous Sámipeople and we will pass their ancient sacred site, the rock formationFinnkirka. Our next stop is the fishing village Kjøllefjord and every so oftenlocal fisherman visit the ship to share their catch of the day. Here inKjøllefjord you can learn more about the Sámi people, as well as havingthe opportunity to explore the wonderful scenery with an unforgettablesnowmobile trip to one of Europe’s most extreme and exciting naturalareas.

Kirkenes – Snowshoe Walk – ●B ●L ●DAurora ExpressEarly Birds will see the small town of Vadsø before we arrive in Kirkeneswhere our ship’s voyage ends. We will have breakfast on board beforedisembarking in Kirkenes, a town located even further east than St.Petersburg at 30° longitude. After lunch we are in for a treat as we try ourhand at snowshoeing; a guide will give us a short lesson and then off wego! We will walk for approximately 2 km through different types of snow,having breaks for refreshments.

After dinner, we are off Northern Lights hunting on the Aurora Express; ourknowledgeable guide will check the latest magnetic forecast and decidewhether to take us by minibus towards the Russian border or in theopposite direction towards the Finnish border.

DAY 13 Wednesday 14 March 2018

Husky Sled Tour – Snowhotel ●B ●L ●DHusky tours are one of the best ways to travel in the arctic tundra so let’s“go to the dogs”!

Kitted out in warm clothing we will be taken to our husky teams for a shortlesson on how to handle the dogs and sleds before we set off into theforest. Each sled has 2 people and a musher to drive it and of course wewill have a guide to help us along the way.

We will finish up the ultimate day of artic experiences with an overnightstay in the “coolest” hotel – the Kirkenes Snowhotel. At the snow bar, wewill enjoy a welcome drink made from local berries before being treatedto a traditional and locally sourced three course dinner.

After dinner take the chance to explore the Snowhotel or say hello to theresident reindeers.

Kirkenes – Oslo ●B ●L ●DAfter having a most refreshing sleep, why not complete this uniqueexperience with a sauna and shower before breakfast. As Snowhotelguests, we will all receive one of the ‘coolest certificates’ to commemorateour stay. After an early lunch in town we will fly to Oslo where you canrelax before dinner.
