The community’s
continuing role
Community consultation plays
an important role in identifying a
busway corridor by providing the
project team with invaluable local
knowledge and feedback.
We have set up a community
reference group to support
community consultation by
identifying key issues, concerns
and ideas through a two-way
communication channel between
the project team and the
community.
Members of the community can
also have an opportunity to
provide direct feedback to the
project team. See the ‘Staff ed
displays’ section for upcoming
opportunities for you to have your
say.
Planning the Northern Busway:
Kedron to Bracken Ridge will use
the combined eff orts of the local
community and the planning
team to develop the most
suitable option for connecting
Brisbane’s northern suburbs.

Kedron to Bracken Ridge.
Your comments, together
with the results of ongoing
technical studies will help us to
refi ne these options and develop
a preferred corridor.
Your feedback is important to
help us plan for the future.
To fi nd out more about the
proposed busway and have your
say, attend a staff ed display or

Draft busway corridor options available for your feedback
The Northern Busway: Kedron to Bracken Ridge is part of the Queensland Government’s long-term plan to meet the transport needs of Brisbane’s growing northern suburbs.

The department is committed to investigating an integrated transport solution to the rapid growth and increasing demand on the roads and public transport network in Brisbane’s northern suburbs. To help plan for and manage the future transport needs in the area the department is undertaking a combination of short, medium and long-term road and transport planning projects.
Short-term planning
Airport Link’s impacts on Gympie Roads
The department will be consulting with local residents on ways to manage future road network changes and changed traffi c conditions on Gympie Road a required when Airport Link opens in 2012.
Consultation is due to start in 2011 and initially will focus on engaging residents closest to the Airport Link tunnel entrance and exits on Gympie Road, near Somerset Road at Kedron.
Medium-term planning
Gympie Road planning study
The study will investigate Gympie Road between Staff ord Road at Kedron and Roghan Road at Carseldine.
The study will be informed by investigations undertaken as part of planning for the Northern Busway: Kedron to Bracken Ridge. Interim measures to deliver short to medium term bus travel improvements for some sections of the busway will be investigated. These measures may include bus priority and transit lanes, queue jumps and priority signals at traffi c lights.
Community consultation on the Gympie Road Planning Study is planned for 2011.
Connecting Brisbane NorthIntegrated transport solutions
Planning for the busway now will
ensure that land is identifi ed
and protected to meet the public
transport needs in the future.
Once the corridor is protected,
any development proposed in
the vicinity of the corridor will be
assessed by the Department of
Transport and Main Roads. This
will ensure:
any new development •
is integrated with future
busway facilities
impacts are minimised if •
the busway is built
residents and property •
owners have greater
certainty about future plans.
The next stage of the planning
process involves further technical
investigations and reviewing
community feedback to identify
the preferred corridor.

Project milestones
Better connections to where people live, as well as major local destinations.
Cleaner and greener transport options - every full bus means up to 40 fewer cars on the road.
A fast, frequent and reliable alternative to private cars, especially during peak-hour periods. Speeds of up to 80 km/hr and improved travel times are possible on the busway.
Maximises sustainable transport options by encouraging passengers to walk, cycle or catch public transport to the busway.
Improved public transport for a broad catchment of suburbs - local buses can enter the busway to connect to high-frequency busway services.

The Prince Charles Hospital is one of the •
northside’s biggest employers with more than 4 000 employees.
The hospital attracts 10 000’s of visitors • each month, many of who drive due to limited public transport services.
The success of the busway stations at • the Mater, PA and RBW hospitals tell us that when fast, frequent and reliable bus services are available, they become a transport option of choice for many people.
Busways can also be used by Emergency • Services vehicles, allowing quick and easy access to and from the hospital.
