Background• Strategy follows on from the 2013 Director of Public

Health Annual Report• 1 in 4 people will develop a mental health problem at

some point in their lives• Research demonstrates that well being is associated

with physical health and quality• UK economy incurs costs of £105 billion a year

Approach• Developed by a Strategy steering group comprising

of CCG, Social Care, Children's Services and Public Health

• Focus on promotion of well being and the reduction of stigma and discrimination

• Distinguishes between mental health and illness• Not a review of all services – but takes a gap analysis

and prioritisation approach • Across the life course

“To support individuals, families and communities within North Somerset to achieve their optimum mental wellbeing enabling them to feel good and function well in their daily lives”.
