When I get a new smartphone I set out tomake it part of my work routine. Most phonesdon’t make much of a difference, and Iexpected that would be the case with theiPhone 6 Plus. I was wrong about that, andit’s one of those times I’m glad I was.The iPhone 6 Plus has become a big part ofmy work day. I have it in hand far more thanany phone that came before, and that’s quitea few. Tasks previously relegated to a tabletare now done routinely on the iPhone. It's not a single feature, rather the combina-tion of hardware and software that has result-ed in the expanded utility I get from theiPhone 6 Plus. That's not surprising, as rarely

CNN — This app presents world news in a for-mat that makes it easy to see what’s going on ata glance, and what’s worth diving into for moredetail. The integration of text and video is partic-ularly good in landscape on the iPhone.NYT Now — This news app also makes gooduse of the big iPhone screen. It presents the topstories from the NYT and updates all day withbreaking news.Acompli — This has quickly become my emailapp of choice. It automatically separates priorityemail from the rest, allowing me to focus onwhat’s important during the busy work day.Evernote — The expanded sharing function iniOS 8 is something I use heavily in my work. When I run across something of interest usingthe apps above, I share it with a few taps toEvernote. This keeps it right where I need it.Tweetbot — I see a lot of breaking news first onTwitter, and this app is the client I prefer. I'vetested a few others but keep coming back toTweetbot.SwiftKey — I have used this keyboard for yearson Android devices and installed it right awaywhen first available. It didn't work well at firstgiven problems in iOS 8, but those have beenironed out and it now works well. The cloud-based predictive text reflects my long-time use ofthe keyboard and it is a big reason why my edit-ing work is so good on the iPhone.

is a single feature or function game-changing.The 5.5-inch screen on the iPhone 6 Plus is onereason I'm using it to do more. The size and res-olution of the display lets me see plenty on thescreen at once, and with apps optimized for iOS8 and the iPhone 6 Plus display, l see that infor-mation in a good format. No matter what I'mdoing, with iPhone in hand I don’t feel I need abigger screen like those on tablets. The big display makes working in landscape ori-entation a good fit for some things I do regularly.Whether it’s a nicely programmed two-pane dis-play or a good full-screen layout of a well-designed app, it expands the functionality of thephone for working.Apps that are better on the big screen: Safari — All web surfing I do for work is with thisbrowser. I have long been a Chrome user, andwhile I have it installed on the iPhone 6 Plus, Irarely use it.Zite — This news aggregator is a great app oniOS 8. It presents information on the big iPhonescreen in a way that is easy to read at a glance, and I can go through hundreds of news items ina few minutes.Feedly — I follow thousands of RSS newssources daily, and this app is efficient for doingthis. Using Feedly on the iPhone 6 Plus hasbecome my favorite way to work with RSS, byfar.

Corporate Tip from Forbes: 5 Tricks To Get Press For Your Business Or Startup

So you spent a few months, per-haps even a few years, to developthe most cutting edge and revolu-tionary widget. This widget couldbe anything ranging from a newproduct or device to a new compa-ny or startup. The bottom line isthat the development phase iscompleted and now it’s time to getthe word out. You run through yourmarketing list. Social Media?Check. PR firm? Check. PaidMedia? Check. Events? Check. Asyou run through the list you realizethat it’s the same list every othercompany would put together. You

think you have an extraordinary prod-uct or solution and yet, you’re plan isabout as generic as they come. Havingworked in the trenches as a founderand startup employee, I know firsthandwhat this marketing laundry list couldlook like. But for the past few years I’ve had theopportunity to sit on the other side ofthe table as a contributor for variouspublications like Forbes, HBR, andother industry specific outlets. As aresult, I’ve personally been pitcheddozens of stories that are “gamechanging” or “disruptive.” What Ilearned is that most of these pitchesare in fact, not “game changing” andmoreover, some of the methods usedto acquire the sought after press isshockingly abysmal. But that doesn’t have to be the case. Here are some tips to avoid the gener-ic PR trap and ways you can achievemeaningful exposure for your newwidget or business.

Build a targeted list of writers andjournalists. I was once pitched a storyabout a non-profit in Africa. While Ilove nonprofits and love Africa(although I’ve never been there), thistype of story is one I’d most likelynever write about. Spend some timeto identify who the best writers arethat are most likely to benefit fromyour story. Journalists are alwayslooking for good, relevant content.Make sure your story aligns with theirexperience and area of focus.Let the writers know you’ve read theirwork. Most people respond bestwhen they are shown personal atten-tion. Journalists are no different. When pitching your story, start with apersonal reference to grab theirattention. You can reference a previ-ous article they wrote or mention apast achievement:“Hi Dan, I thought your last article onstartups was …”Continued Online Here
