JUDGE PROFILES

Christine Hardy (Otterswish)

Dogs have always been a large part of my life growing up with English Bulldogs, Dachshunds, German Shepherds, Poodles and Irish Setters and was fortunate enough to show my mothers Irish Setter Ch. Cornhill Jamie which introduced me into the show scene.

I fell in love with Beardies and purchased my fi rst; a bitch puppy from the Kimrand Kennel in 1986 and very soon a second followed.

Currently I have owned 5 Champions, of whom 3 were home-bred and one is the daughter of my beloved Ch. Otterswish O’Connor.

My greatest achievement to date was when my beautiful brown girl Ch. Otterswish Bernadette won B.O.B. and Group 2 at Crufts in 2001.

I awarded my fi rst set of C.C.’s as a judge in 2004 and have judged at the B.C.C. in France and Sweden and have a judging appointment at the Belgium B.C.C. later in 2015. I also judge Polish Lowland Sheepdogs.

I have been an active member of the N.E.B.C.C. committee for over 20 years, many of which I have held the position of Chief Steward.

I help run a weekly dog show-ring training class locally to home (all breeds) and I am the Dog Show Co-ordinator for Ashover Agricultural and Horticultural Society Ltd and also an assessor for the Good Citizen Dog Scheme.

Emma Bird (Bridus)

After acquiring our fi rst Beardie, a brown bitch, 25 years ago, I have been lucky to share my life with some wonderful Beardies since then. After being joined by a slate boy Digger, who we showed for a while, his sister joined us two years later and it was with her that I did most of my Junior Handling classes. Kassidy and I enjoyed success in Agility competitions also, qualifying for Crufts when she was 10 years old and competing in the K.C.J.O. Junior Agility there, achieving a 3rd place after only being beaten by Border Collies!

Toby, Thymewinds Tobias at Bridus, had joined us by then and it was with him that I competed in both K.C.J.O. and Breed classes, handling him to a C.C. and B.O.B. at Three Counties, a day I will remember always! Pimms is a Toby granddaughter and is a veteran now, but from her two daughters are being shown abroad one is a Bel. Ch. I have another daughter at home with me.

I was delighted on my 18th birthday to be given the gift of adding my name to the Bridus affi x. Tilly joined the family and produced our fi rst Bridus litter and I have played an active role in the planning and rearing of the subsequent litters that we have raised.

I have a keen interest in the breed and although I am not showing at the moment due to my own brood of two boys (who knows; junior handlers of the future?) I have been pleased to judge our breed at Open shows and Midshires Open Show.

I am honoured to have been asked to judge Bitches at N.E.B.C.O.L. show an event that I am very much looking forward to and I would like to thank the Committee and members for giving me this privilege.

13. Exhibits will not be admitted to Best in Show competition after a period of ten minutes has elapsed since the announcement that exhibits are required for judging, unless they have been unavoidably delayed by previous judging not being completed on time, and then only with the special permission of the Show Management.

15. All exhibitors must be familiar with Kennel Club Regulation F (Annex B) - Regulations for the Preparation of Dogs for Exhibition.

16. All dogs resident outside of the UK must be issued with a Kennel Club Authority to Compete number before entry to the show/event can be made. All overseas entries without an Authority to Compete number will be returned to the exhibitor/competitor.

17. Dogs in Cars on Hot Days. Your dog is vulnerable and at risk during hot weather and the Kennel Club offers the following guidance to help guide you through the do’s and don’ts travelling to and whilst at KC licensed events. • When travelling to a show please take a moment to consider whether the route to the show is

on a busy holiday route, and leave earlier to avoid increased time in traffi c jams. • If your vehicle is not air-conditioned seriously consider whether travelling to the show is a good idea

at all. • The vehicle should be as fully ventilated as possible, and plenty of stops should be taken, with

lots of water available to drink.• Ensure your dog is not sitting in full sunlight. There should be plenty of free fl owing air around

the dog.• When at the show, never leave your dog in the vehicle.• Keep the dog in the shade - take your own shade for example a large umbrella and always have

plenty of water available to drink so your dog stays well hydrated.• Avoid your dog taking part in unnecessary exertion, or from standing in exposed sunlight for

extended lengths of time. Remember, if you feel hot your dog is very likely to feel much hotter and dehydrated, and this could lead to dire results. Please look after your dog’s welfare.

WARNING: IF YOUR DOG IS FOUND TO BE AT RISK FORCIBLE ENTRY TO YOUR VEHICLE MAY BE NECESSARY WITHOUT LIABILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED. Anyone whose dog is entered at a Kennel Club licensed event should take all reasonable steps to ensure the needs of their dog(s) are met, and should not put a dog’s health and welfare at risk by any action, default, omission or otherwise. Breach of Kennel Club Regulations in this respect may be referred to the General Committee for disciplinary action under Kennel Club Limited Rules and Regulations. Exhibitors/Competitors are reminded that show societies have the right under Kennel Club Regulation to refuse any entry.

18. Not for Competition entries will be accepted. Details of each dog so entered must be recorded on the entry form and must be Kennel Club registered.

19. All postal entries must be made by 2nd April 2015 upon forms issued for that purpose.

20. Please note that under the new rules, dogs may not be entered under their breeder or anyone else who at any time has been the dog’s registered owner. Entry Fees will not be returnable once entries have been made.

21. The Committee will not be responsible for any loss or damage to exhibits, the exhibitors or their property, whether or not caused by any act or omission of themselves or their agents.

22. The Committee reserve the right to appoint another judge should the appointed Judge be unable to attend. Exhibitors may withdraw from competition but their entry fess will not be refunded.

23. The Committee will not be responsible for loss or damage to exhibits, the exhibitors or their property.

Vic Salt (Woodlyn)

It is a great honour to be invited to judge Best In Show at the North of England Bearded Collie Club and I thank the committee for asking me.

I have always taken a keen interest in Bearded Collies and I am a founder member of the Eastern Bearded Collie Club.

I have been showing and judging for over 50 years, having bred 16 U.K. Champions plus many C.C., Reserve C.C. Winners and overseas champions. I have judged in Australia and all over Europe, awarding C.C.’s, C.A.C.’s and C.A.C.I.B.’s.

I am a breed specialist in Rough Collies and Belgian Shepherd Dogs, having judged both these breeds at Crufts in 1998/1999/2010, also Border Collies at the Winners Show in Holland and at Crufts 2012. I award C.C.’s in 18 breeds in both Working & Pastoral Group 1 (F.C.I.) and the Pastoral Group (U.K.). I am judging the Pastoral Group at Crufts 2015.

Thank you once again, I am really looking forward to judging at your Club Show.

Claire Platts (Camberwick)

I came from a background where dogs were always a keen interest, my parents bred several terrier breeds and had good success campaigning champions in various breeds.

I purchased my fi rst Bearded Collie in 1986 and have always owned at least two Beardies that from day. Initially my interests were based around working my dogs always believing that the breed should be capable of carrying out the tasks they were originally bred for. I campaigned Camberwick Symphony in Blue to her senior working test and a challenge certifi cate, she also competed successfully in Beardie Pentathlons.

We have only bred three litters each of which produced C.C. or Reserve C.C. Winners. We were fortunate enough to make up two champions one of which was home bred. One fact we are proud of was Delius being the fi rst Bearded Collie to be placed in a newly formed pastoral group at Manchester Championship Show.

On the judging front I have judged at Open shows since 1990 including two Bearded Collie open shows, I have attended two Bearded Collie Judges training days in 2002 and 2006 also attended and passed the club examination “requirements of a dog show judge”.
