The days of people claiming Los Angeleshas no culture are over. During the dog days ofsummer (which officially begins June 21), LosAngeles has more than a few things to offer youwhile the sun shines.

Featuring festivals, concerts, films, and artexhibits; here is my official guide to doing thisJune and July right. These summer stocks arehappening in unlikely places, from museums toyour old high school, so come ready to experi-ence the city in a whole different light. The bestsummer yet is upon us! There’s an abundancethings to do; take advantage of all your area hasto offer and you won’t be sorry.

Free summer concerts return at Getty MuseumGet exited about the season as soon as pos-

sible. June is the gatekeeper of your summerfun. Start off with a free concert in the court-yard at the Getty Museum as part of #Satur-daysOffthe405 concert series. On Saturday,June 20, from 6 to 9 pm, discover Shannon andthe Clams, a psychedelic meets doo-wop meetsrockabilly sound reminiscent of the countercul-ture era. Watch movies under the stars Outdoor movie screenings are picking up

this month – on Saturday, June 20, HollywoodForever Cemetery will show the “Wizard ofOz,” complete with DJs, a photo booth andonsite car and bike parking. Oh, and don’t for-get to pack your picnic, blankets, and

beer/wine. If you want to stay on the Westside,that same day head to Santa Monica HighSchool for Eat See Hear’s “Edward Scis-sorhands” screening. Amenities include tons offood trucks, live bands, a dog-friendly area andthe West Coast’s largest outdoor screen. Enjoy free live shows on Make Music Day Continue into the swing of June with an

exhaustive round up of live music as part ofMake Music Day on Sunday, June 21 (Perfectfor a Father’s Day outing).

Twilight Concert Series to take over SantaMonica Pier

Named after Julius Caesar and arguablythe fan-favorite of the summer months, Julyhas tons to offer a Westsider in search of fun.

The biggest event of July is the launch ofthe Twilight Concert Series, and 2015 marksthe 31st season of this free music affair. EachThursday from July through September, SantaMonica Pier hosts live music for picnic andmusic-goers alike. Watch the sunset and listento the crashing waves as Morris Day and theTime kick off the line-up on July 9 with theirrhythm and blues set. July 16 is for indie rock,featuring Real Estate and Hippo Campus,while July 23 brings the classic Latin heat withartists Cubanismo and Chicano Batman. Skirball free summer concert series returns for 19th year

July also opens the Skirball’s 19th free sum-mer concert series, where indie, folk and worldmusic mesh under the stars in the beautiful cen-tral courtyard. Guests can arrive early and visitthe museum’s galleries, dine and grab a seat towatch a live liquid light show by Joshua LightShow as you hear synth-pop ban Tamaryn onJuly 17. Later that month, La Civa Gantiva willmake their West Coast debut on July 23, and

Marina del Rey’s not to be missed Summer Concert Series

Finally, get funky with Marina del Rey’sSummer Concert Series that begins July 2.Among the highlights, check out KC and theSunshine Band perform their hits on July 25 at7 pm.
