Program/Service: Offenders that were aged 12 – 17 at the time of an offence. Community sentences may include probation orders, deferred custody, custody and community supervision, or supervised releases prior to a trial or sentencing. Also administered is the Extrajudicial Sanctions program (court diversion), both directly and in partnership with volunteers on Youth Justice Committees. Youth Justice Committees may also assist the court through a sentence advisory or mentoring role. They have access to a wide variety of treatment, educational and other programs, including release planning. The Edmonton Youth Attendance Centre supervises Non Residential Orders, and provide curfew surveillance, community service work, fine option, educational and other programs, both directly and through partnership with other agencies such as the Edmonton School Board, AADAC, John Howard Society, Centrepoint (Capital Health) and others. Open Custody Group Homes in Edmonton are provided by way of

contracts with John Howard Society, Catholic Social Services, Native Counselling Services of Alberta and Alberta Hospital.

The Edmonton North Young Offender Probation office is responsible for the preparation of Pre-sentence & violation reports and enforces Youth Court sentences that have a condition requiring the youth to report to a probation officer. Probation officers make extensive use of existing programs in the community to address counselling, schooling or other needs.

Goodwill Contracting Services is a business venture funded by United Way.
