Dear Friends, The NDCC is preparing for next week's Town Hall Meetingon Wednesday, May 6th at Garden Place ElementarySchool from 5:30 ‐ 7:30 pm. Representatives from all sixprojects will be at this open house to provide informationand updates on the progress. A team from the UrbanWaterways Restoration Study will also be present offeringproject details about the South Platte River. During thetown hall meeting, NDCC Executive Director Kelly Leid willmake a brief presentation on the 2015 NDCC Work Plan, aswell as an introduction to a new neighborhoodimplementation committee structure to help advance theadopted Globeville and Elyria‐Swansea neighborhoodplans. The last hour of the town hall meeting will be dedicated toa roundtable discussion with a panel of nonprofitcommunity organizations currently working in theGlobeville, Elyria and Swansea neighborhoods.Organizations include Focus Points Resource Center, TheGrowhaus, Habitat for Humanity, Groundwork Denver andConnect Denver Foundation. They will be sharing theirefforts for 2015 and how to continue progressing theneighborhoods. On Tuesday, April29th, the bill passedon 3rd reading in theSenate with 19 votes.The bill will advance CSU's mission to serve agriculturescience and agribusiness, which generates $42 billion ineconomic activity annually in Colorado and employ 173,000people in the state. The state's investment will accelerate the completion ofthe CSU facilities at the Center and help establish one ofthe nation's most unique Agricultural hubs. Construction ofthe NWC is expected to generate nearly 4,000 constructionjobs over the anticipated decade‐long transformation andproduce 6,000 direct and 10,000 indirect jobs in Ag‐business and science in and around the campus. "The State's support for CSU's presence on the NationalWestern Center is critical and a symbol of the collaborativespirit this regional project embodies," said Denver MayorMichael B. Hancock. "Partnerships are fundamental toadvancing the vision of this unique hub focused onagriculture, entertainment and commerce. Initial Campus Zoning AdvancesOn Wednesday, April 29th, the City's Planning Boardapproved a new zone district to help implement the boldvision of the NWC Master Plan. Grant Helps Beautify GES Through inspired partnership and grant support fromDenver Arts & Venues' P.S. You Are Here initiative,Birdseed Collective collaborated with RTD, Focus PointsResource Center, GES Livewell, Denver Public Works andcommunity residents to identify six bus stops near theBruce Randolph School, Swansea Elementary and GardenPlace Elementary, and to beautify these bus benches. Elyria Swansea ‐ ULC Purchases Land in ElyriaSwansea The Urban Land Conservancy (ULC) has recently purchasedsix acres on 48th Ave and Race St in the Elyria and Swanseaneighborhoods. With financial assistance from the Office ofEconomic Development, the ULC paid $5.5 million for thesite that will be dedicated to mixed‐use, transit orienteddevelopment including affordable rental housing. The site'slocation is next to RTD's North Metro Line and the NationalWestern Center.

35th/36th Ped Bridge The 35th ‐ 36th Pedestrian Bridge project is currently underconstruction advertisement. It is anticipated that acontractor will be selected in summer 2015 withconstruction beginning in late summer 2015. Thecontractor chosen will be responsible for constructing theped bridge between 35th and 36th and Blake including anelevator, plaza, sidewalk and sewer utilities.
38th & Blake The City has selected SEMA Construction as the firm toadvance this road project also known as the "hump" on38th and Blake. Construction will commence this summer.Stay tuned for more updates.

Businessesmeet withCDOT regardingfutureconstructionimpactsOn April 30th, CDOTand the Office ofEconomicDevelopment met with area businesses to discuss futureconstruction impacts of the I‐70 East project. Organized byCouncilwoman Judy Montero, this is the first of manymeetings to discuss construction phasing details, accessneeds and business support. Attendees also received information on CDOT's DBEprogram and other resources available to the businesscommunity.
RTD Station Development
East Rail Line Powered testing of rail begins at AirportStation Two of RTD's newcommuter rail carspulled into thestation at DenverInternationalAirport for the firsttime Friday, April17. The "married pair" of electric trains operated for the firsttime under their own power using the overhead electricalsystem to come into the new Denver Airport Stationplatform.
This is part of powered testing of RTD's East Rail Line,scheduled to open for passenger service next year.
The commuter trains use 25,000‐volt AC power fromoverhead lines to operate, different than RTD's 750‐volt DCsystem that powers its light rail trains. April Newsletter with Updates

Building a Healthier Denver TogetherSince early 2014, Denver Parks & Rec, the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Denver, LiveWellColorado and Earth Force have joined together to improve our local recreation centers andcombat youth obesity in Globeville, Elyria, Swansea and northeast Denver. The collaborative project was funded by a $500,000 grant from the global healthcarecompany GSK. Over 90 youth have been engaged in healthy eating, active living, and youth leadershipdevelopment projects and programs in three rec centers: Stapleton, Swansea and St. CharlesRec Centers. The community is invited to learn about this effort at an upcoming event that will includespecial performances and presentations by the youth. The Corridor of Opportunity represents a nearly 23‐mile stretch between linking I‐70 and East Commuter line from Denver Union Station to Denver InternationalAirport. The corridor is one of the most compelling commercial investment opportunities in theworld, with thousands of developable acres. With nine commuter‐rail stations along RTD'sEast Line alone (slated to open in 2016), future plans for the area include transit‐orienteddevelopment with housing, strategic locations for corporate headquarters and abundantoptions for additional open space. The variety of opportunities, both existing and future, make this corridor a focal point forDenver's future economy, with nearly 40,000 new jobs through new and expandedbusinesses and $2.6 billion in economic impact expected over the next three decades,including $13.4 million annually in additional city revenue.

The North Denver Cornerstone Collaborative was founded by Mayor Michael B. Hancock onJanuary 25, 2013. Recognizing a convergence of upcoming projects in the Elyria‐Swansea andGlobeville neighborhoods, the Mayor identified an opportunity to energize a cornerstone of
the Corridor of Opportunity and create an updated gateway to downtown by aligningindividual efforts into one coordinated vision. Kelly Leid manages the general oversight,planning, strategic coordination, financing and implementation of the six primary projects.
