North Carolina Time Line
Pre-colonial
• Before the colonies North Carolina was home to Cherokee Indians.
North Carolina
North Carolina used to be a larger state because it was joined with south
Carolina they separated in 1712.
• On April 12, 1776, the colony became the first to instruct its delegates to the Continental Congress to vote for independence from the British crown.
• On October 7, 1780 one thousand mountain men from western North Carolina overwhelmed a force of some 1000 British troops led by Major Patrick Ferguson.
Civil War
• North Carolina was the last state to join the confederacy in 1860.
End of the Civil War
• After the union defeated the confederates North Carolina rejoined the United States of America.
