(NBCHS)

Welcome to a unique collaboration. This directory will be a useful tool for anyone in search of social services provided within North Brevard. Please first note the “Index” outlining the variety of resources we have included within these pages. The agencies are listed alphabetically, with information given for each, including the indexed topics. For anyone seeking further details of each organization, you may call the phone numbers or search the websites given. As social service providers, we want to disseminate accurate, thorough information. With this in mind, 2-1-1 Brevard, an organization that provides assistance and referrals for all of Brevard County in times of emotional, financial and community crisis, is also available for anyone who may have additional questions. The

directory is updated after each monthly networking meeting and may be accessed on our website: http://nbbd.com/npr/nbchs. Thank you for using this directory as you assist others with a “hand up”.

MOTTO “Providing a Hand Up, Not a Hand Out” HISTORY The North Brevard Coalition of Human Services, "NBCHS” or “the Coalition,” founded in 1994, is an unincorporated association of over one hundred community and faith-based organizations that has continually served as a grass-roots movement to successfully impact and improve the quality of life for families and individuals in need. MISSION The Coalition’s mission is education, coordination, and facilitation of community transformation through partnerships of community and faith-based organizations. Together, the member organizations have found ways to assist many families and individuals who would otherwise have trouble meeting basic human needs including food, clothing, and shelter. VISION “Connecting Partners to Build a Better Community”

Why the North Brevard Coalition of Human Services, (NBCHS)?

Groups can accomplish more than individuals (or individual agencies)! Working together, NBCHS can accomplish more than any single entity can alone. Members benefit from pooling staff, financial, and in-kind resources to accomplish individual and common goals. Coalition members learn more about services and programs provided by other coalition organizations or agencies. NBCHS partners learn much more about the services and resources of partner organizations than they could in a single outreach visit or educa-tional program. NBCHS members can share detailed information with one another about programs and services and learn more in-depth about each other. Community collaborations impress stakeholders and funders. NBCHS can also garner broader support than individual organizations or agencies. Community collaborations are attractive to fun-ders looking to have an impact in the broader community. Coalitions create ownership of community concerns. NBCHS can work together to identify gaps in service delivery and develop inter-agency solutions for community issues. Often, barriers to service delivery are overcome when multiple agencies work together to eliminate them. Coalitions enhance providers’ resources thereby empowering con-sumers to become involved in improving quality-of-life care and services. Consumers often feel disenfranchised by systems, such as social ser-vices, and healthcare systems. A coalition of providers designed to en-hance and empower consumers and providers benefits both groups and tackle barriers to service from both sides of the issue. Since 1994, North Brevard Coalition of Human Services believes that a strategic and practical approach can be implemented through a more co-hesive, focused linkage among existing organizations. By building new partnerships and strengthening the capacity of the NBCHS to improve the

quality-of-life for individuals, organizations, and the community at large. .

Why the North Brevard Coalition of Human Services, (NBCHS)?

Because it just makes sense!
