The Shop Local chant has

 been heard loud and clear

over the last several months.

As many of you are already

aware the Chamber is

involved in a “Shop Local”

campaign partnering with

WJBF, and we participated inthe “Shop Small” Initiative

in November and December.

Both projects have been very

well received, but we should

 be doing more, and, with

your help we will.

As is most often the case,

one of our members has

approached us with a great

idea. Rachel Franklin, owner

of the SNO-CAP Drive-In

and Carolina Oaks Bed &

Breakfast, not to mention the

2011 Small Business Per-

son of the Year, would like

to head up a group to plan

events promoting our localsmall businesses throughout

the year. The main thought,

initially, would be a monthly

“Shop North Augusta” day

on the last Saturday of the

month.

We would do special pro-

motions, and participating

 businesses could coordinate

and cross-promote with one

another. We would also

organize monthly prizes for

the customers that patronize

 participating businesses dur-

ing the Shop North Augusta

day.

Supporting our ownlocally owned small busi-

nesses is the best possible

way to create a thriving

economy. There are numer-

ous studies and articles

highlighting the impact of

shopping locally. I found

html that is really good.

In the article Judith says

“At the most basic level,

when you buy local more

money stays in the communi-

emphasis on shopping locally

in a much better light. In the
