All about North Africa 3

This time last year, when I was putting the finishing touches toTravel Bulletin’s North Africa supplement, it was very hard to knowwhat 2011 held in store for tourism to Tunisia, Egypt and Morocco.

The impact on tourism of the Arab Spring was difficult to quantifywith scenes of people taking to the streets of Tunisia and Egypt inprotest against the ruling governments being televised all over the world.

A year on, the unpopular governments are gone, the protesters areoff the streets and tourists are starting to return to the much-treasured tourist destinations of Egypt and Tunisia.

The tourist offices have played a big role in getting visitors backwith a series of global marketing campaigns. In the UK alone, theyhave teamed up with operators to get agents out on educationals toshow them that it is business as usual.

UK operators are working with hotel groups to ensure they candeliver the best-value prices to customers, and there is withoutquestion some great deals to be had.

Morocco, which was untouched by the unrest, is proving to be aspopular as ever, with new luxury hotel openings helping to keep thecountry in the headlines.
