Tonight, gather with your fellow travelers for Welcome Dinner, featuring the region’s delicious local cuisine. Normandy is known for its butter, cheese and other dairy products, as well as its fresh seafood. The attire for this evening is dressy casual. Day 3 — Monday, June 12 Trouville/Honfleur Cures Marines Trouville Hotel, Thalasso & Spa Breakfast, lunch and dinner Excursion: The Bounty of the Normandy Countryside. Normandy is famous for its dairy products. Its butter and cheeses are among France’s best. Visit a dairy farm and fromagerie to get a firsthand look at how some of the cheeses are made. Sample some of the delicious cheeses for which this region is known. Next, visit a traditional Calvados distillery, nestled among 42 acres of apple orchards. Calvados, brandy distilled from the local hard apple cider, is considered to be among the world’s finest brandies. Enjoy a taste of the smooth, warming spirit. Continue to the charming town of Honfleur, which sits on the Seine estuary, for lunch. Enjoy some time to explore on your own in Honfleur, which has blossomed from a traditional fishing village to one of the most picturesque towns in Normandy. Enjoy a pleasant stroll along the Vieux Bassin, the 17th-century harbor, or explore L’Enclos, the heart of the medieval fort that once protected the city. Return to Trouville, where the evening is free to enjoy on your own. Trouville has no shortage of restaurants. From upscale restaurants to casual corner cafés, you have a variety of choices. Visit the Peace Memorial in Caen, an award-winning museum dedicated to peace. During your visit, learn about 20th century history including World War II, D-Day Landings and the Cold War through an array of exhibits, photos and video footage. Enjoy a lunch of traditional regional French cuisine during your outing. Return to Trouville, where you can spend the afternoon at your leisure. Enjoy another evening at your leisure. Perhaps you may venture across the Touques estuary to Deauville-les-Bains, which can be reached in just a few minutes by ferry. Though Trouville and Deauville are often referred to as twin towns, their personalities are very different. Trouville has long been a favorite of artists, writers and families, while Deauville is a chic seaside playground. Day 5 — Wednesday, June 14 Normandy D-Day Beaches Cures Marines Trouville Hotel, Thalasso & Spa Breakfast and lunch Excursion: D-Day and the Battle of Normandy. The Normandy coast provided the theater for Operation Overlord, one of history’s most complex and important invasions. Your journey to the sites pivotal to the ultimate success of the Allied effort begins with a lecture on the monumental events of June 6, 1944. See Arromanches, site of one of the offshore mulberry harbors; Omaha Beach, where U.S. forces braved poor weather conditions and heavily fortified waters and beaches to overcome German troops; and Pointe du Hoc, where U.S. Rangers scaled 100-foot cliffs to destroy German artillery emplacements. At St-Laurent-sur-Mer, visit the beautiful and solemn Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial. Enjoy lunch during your excursion. Return to the hotel late this afternoon. Today, make your own pilgrimage to this UNESCO World Heritage site. Le Mont Saint-Michel’s dramatic turrets tower over the flat white sands surrounding this tiny granite island. Explore the island that has served as a fortress, monastery and prison. Visit the Abbey Church, which dates from the eighth century. Local Flavor Savor a delicious lunch at a restaurant on the island. Spend some time exploring the island on your own before returning to Trouville. Enjoy an evening at leisure in Trouville.
