Non Verbal Communication:

“ An aspect of communication WITHOUT the use of words or spoken language”

Non Verbal communication exits in oral, written and graphical communication. Format and layout are some of the non verbal components of written and graphical communication.

Types Of Non VerbalCommunication:1. Personal (To the individual)2. Common to a group of people or culture3. Universal 4. Unrelated to the message(Random)

Components of Non Verbal Communication:1. Appearance and Surroundings2. Body Language3. Silence, Time and Space4. Para-Language(Vocal Qualities)

Appearance:1. What a person wears, convey a message about the type of personality they possess2. There are clothes appropriate for the various types of situation

Body Language:Components of Personal Communication:55% Body Language38% voice, tone7% spoken words“ Body Acts as a TRUTH-TALKER. It speaks louder than words.”

Components of Body Language:1. Posture2. Facial Expression3. Eye Contact4. Head Movements5. Gestures

Posture:Through posture one can convey feelings and attitudes

Facial Expressions:1. Determine what people are thinking and feeling, and reflect emotions2. Words and facial expressions can be contradictory

Eye Contact:Direct and powerful form of non verbal communication1. Sends a message about the interest you port to what a person says 2. Tells how you perceive yourself compared to that person

Head Movements:1. Yes or No2. Request3. Acceptance4. Rejection

Gestures:A gesture is a mean of using your arms or hands to conveys some meaning to another person

Silence, Time And Space:1. Silence: Silence always conveys feelings. When you make a request or ask a question you expect a response from receiver. If he keeps silent for a considerable time, you may develop a feeling of irritation or rejection.

2. Time: Time is a good indicator of every matter and the personality. If you are on time, it shows you are punctual.

3. Space: Space is the physical distance between sender and receiver.

Para-Language: Paralanguage is that part of language associated with, but not involving the word system. It consists of the voice qualities and vocalizations that effect how something is said rather than what is said.

Components of Para-Language:1. Pitch Range2. Pitch Control3. Rhythm Control4. Tempo5. Articulation Control6. Resonance
