e Guadalupe Community Shelter, along with our
many sponsors, would like to invite you to join us for the
2018 anksgivingNon-Event Charity Ball
Partner with Us: To help those struggling with homelessness, e Guadalupe
Shelter is the only one in Weld County that provides for all
populations: families, single women and single men.
Being homeless and moving into a shelter is
scary. One high school student is making the
best of some challenges in her life with
gratitude for what she has and a determined
focus on her academic studies and
achievements. We thank her for sharing her
story:
“When I first came to the Guadalupe Shelter, I
thought that coming here was horrible. But
I’ve come to realize that I shouldn’t have
judged this place so quickly. e Guadalupe
Shelter may not be home, but it is so much
more than that.
is place is amazing because they make you
feel comfortable. ey celebrate your birthday
and give you cake, they understand that
everyone has a different story and they try to
help you any way they can. I’m glad that I’ve
had the opportunity to experience such an
amazing place.”

Invitationto Provide Help
and Create Hope
During the scorching hot summer, Sara and
her four children were living in their vehicle
after a job loss and a rent increase. Without a
home they did not have access to showers or
healthy, hot meals. Her children had to
manage hunger pangs and struggled to keep
clean.
“ere was nothing worse for me as a parent
than seeing my children live out of a vehicle,”
said Sara.
At the Guadalupe Shelter, the family received
the support they needed to begin building a
new future. Nutritious meals, a private room
and bath, and laundry facilities allowed the
family to heal from the trauma of not feeling
safe or having their basic needs met. Sara
received guidance on preparing for job
interviews and soon became
an assistant- manager in
a restaurant. e
resources and en-
couragement from the
Guadalupe Shelter gave
Sara and her family the
motivation to move from
helplessness to
hopefulness and leave
homelessness behind.
Tom is a military veteran that had a string of
bad luck and no family to speak of for
support. Previously, Tom successfully
completed the transitional housing program
at the Guadalupe Center. A year later, his
father passed away and Tom was left to
mourn and pay for burial expenses with
money he did not have.
He returned to the Guadalupe doorstep,
praying God would give him a second
chance to get back on his feet.
e Guadalupe Center encouraged Tom to
re-enter the program. ey encouraged him
to resume his workout routine at the gym
while he continued working. He decided to
keep moving forward and to surround
himself with positive people
and become a positive
person himself. He saved
money and found
affordable housing. He
stated in his exit
interview, “God
provided me the
blessing of the
Guadalupe Center.”
A single father with two young boys was
forced to stay home from work when his
childcare provider left town and he could not
find affordable replacement care. e lack of
childcare led to the loss of his job. Unable to
pay rent, his family became homeless and
sought shelter at the Guadalupe Center.
is single dad found himself in a catch-22.
He had skills for more than an entry-level
position, but the next level did not pay
enough to sustain and house his family --
but paid too much to qualify for government
assistance.
He was at a loss and faced barriers at every
step. “e only place that opened a door for
me and my family
was the
Guadalupe Shelter,”
he said.
