Editor Praises Team, Fans The Glenville State College Pioneer football team won its

first game last Saturday, September 8, at Waynesburg, with a score of 13-0. Does this sound like a team that was chosen to lose by various state newspapers or a team with new coaches? No to most it would sound like a team that is very together and GI:nville's team was exactly that when it came to playing football .

Many felt that the team wouldn't do very well due to Head Coach Frank Vincent's illness and Byron Brooks quitting the team and then rejoining, as well as other problems. The team just didn't seem to have anything together. -

However the Pioneer football team pulled together when it counted - 'on the field . Coach Hunt, the rest of the coaching staff, trainers, and most importantly, the players, deserve a big hand on a victory.

There were many fans at the game that helped to cheer on the team and with a team so dedicated and determined, there should be a crowd at every' game. This weekend, we play at home against Shepherd. Be There !! Editor

~h!'?5~!n!r!rd i~C~i!'retu9ver Waynesburg 13-0 took their first step toward proving the experts wrong Saturday by literally running over Waynesburg College in a 13-0 season opening victory in Waynesburg, Pa.

The Pioneers ran up 194 yards on the grou nd behind Bryon Brooks' 122 in 26 carries, and Forrest Hall threw for 100 yards to propel the offense. The defensive unit , beh i nd Mike Payne's 10 tackles, gave up only 40 rushing yards while forcing 4 turnovers to keep the Waynesburg offense in check .

Rocky Metheny put the Pioneers on the scoreboard with a 20

in the second quarter. Mark Szklennik added the pOint after to give GSC a 7 -0 lead at the half.

Brooks widened the margin in the third quarter with a one-yard run which capped off a drive highlighted by a 26 yard pass from Hall to Jim Bird. Szklennik's point after attempt was blocked.

Waynesburg 's best drive was stopped short by the Pioneer defense on the GSC 6-yard line in the third quarter.

Glenville will meet Shepherd next week in the home opener at Pioneer Stadium.
