Office applicationsThe office applications supportcommon features of Microsoft Word,PowerPoint, and Excel (Microsoft Office2000, XP, and 2003). Not all file formatsare supported.

Network servicesTo use the device you must haveservice from a wireless serviceprovider. Some features are notavailable on all networks; otherfeatures may require that you makespecific arrangements with yourservice provider to use them. Networkservices involve transmission of data.Check with your service provider fordetails about fees in your homenetwork and when roaming on othernetworks. Your service provider canexplain what charges will apply. Somenetworks may have limitations thataffect how you can use some featuresof this device requiring networksupport such as support for specifictechnologies like WAP 2.0 protocols(HTTP and SSL) that run on TCP/IPprotocols and language-dependentcharacters.

Your service provider may haverequested that certain features bedisabled or not activated in yourdevice. If so, these features will notappear on your device menu. Yourdevice may also have customizeditems such as menu names, menuorder, and icons.

Shared memoryThe following features in this devicemay share memory: multimediamessaging (MMS), e-mail application,instant messaging. Use of one or moreof these features may reduce thememory available for the remainingfeatures. If your device displays amessage that the memory is full,delete some of the information storedin the shared memory.

During extended operation such as anactive video call and high speed dataconnection, the device may feel warm.In most cases, this condition is normal.If you suspect the device is not workingproperly, take it to the nearestauthorized service facility.

Digital rights management

Content owners may use differenttypes of digital rights management(DRM) technologies to protect theirintellectual property, includingcopyrights. This device uses varioustypes of DRM software to access DRM-protected content. With this deviceyou can access content protected withWMDRM 10 and OMA DRM 2.0. If certainDRM software fails to protect thecontent, content owners may ask thatsuch DRM software's ability to accessnew DRM-protected content berevoked. Revocation may also preventrenewal of such DRM-protectedcontent already in your device.Revocation of such DRM software doesnot affect the use of content protectedwith other types of DRM or the use ofnon-DRM-protected content.

Access codesIf you forget any of the access codes,contact your service provider.

Personal identification number (PIN)code — This code protects your SIMcard against unauthorized use. The PINcode (4 - 8 digits) is usually suppliedwith the SIM card. After threeconsecutive incorrect PIN code entries,the code is blocked, and you need thePUK code to unblock it.UPIN code — This code may besupplied with the USIM card. The USIMcard is an enhanced version of the SIMcard and is supported by 3G cellularphones.PIN2 code — This code (4 to 8 digits)is supplied with some SIM cards and is

required to access some functions inyour device.Lock code (also known as securitycode) — The lock code helps you toprotect your device againstunauthorized use. The preset code is12345. You can create and change thecode, and set the device to request thecode. Keep the new code secret and ina safe place separate from your device.If you forget the code and your deviceis locked, your device will requireservice. Additional charges may apply,and all the personal data in your devicemay be deleted. For more information,contact a Nokia Care point or yourdevice dealer.Personal unblocking key (PUK) codeand PUK2 code — These codes (8digits) are required to change ablocked PIN code or PIN2 code,respectively. If the codes are notsupplied with the SIM card, contact thenetwork service provider whose SIMcard is in your device.UPUK code — This code (8 digits) isrequired to change a blocked UPINcode. If the code is not supplied withthe USIM card, contact the networkservice provider whose USIM card is inyour device.International Mobile EquipmentIdentity (IMEI) number — This number(15 or 17 digits) is used to identify validdevices on the GSM network. Devicesthat are, for example, stolen, can beblocked from accessing the network.The IMEI number for your device can befound under the battery.

Remote lockYou can lock your device remotelyusing a predefined text message. You

can also lock the memory cardremotely.

Enable remote locking1 Select Menu > Settings and

Phone > Phone mgmt. >Security settings > Phone andSIM card > Remote phonelocking > Enabled.

2 Enter the text message content(5-20 characters), verify it, andenter the lock code.

Lock your device remotelyWrite the predefined text message,and send it to your device. To unlockyour device, you need the lock code.

Prolong battery lifeMany features in your device increasethe demand on battery power andreduce the battery lifetime. To savebattery power, note the following:

• Features that use Bluetoothtechnology, or allowing suchfeatures to run in the backgroundwhile using other features,increase the demand on batterypower. Deactivate Bluetoothconnectivity when you do notneed it.

• Features that use wireless LAN(WLAN), or allowing such featuresto run in the background whileusing other features, increase thedemand on battery power. WLANon your Nokia device deactivateswhen you are not trying toconnect, not connected to anaccess point, or not scanning foravailable networks. To furtherreduce battery consumption, youcan specify that your device does

not scan, or scans less often, foravailable networks in thebackground.

• If you have selected Packet dataconnection > When available inthe connection settings, and thereis no packet data coverage (GPRS),the device periodically tries toestablish a packet dataconnection. To prolong theoperating time of your device,select Packet data connection >When needed.

• The Maps application downloadsnew map information when youscroll to new areas on the map,which increases the demand onbattery power. You can preventthe automatic download of newmaps.

• If the signal strength of the cellularnetwork varies much in your area,your device must scan for theavailable network repeatedly. Thisincreases the demand on batterypower.

If the network mode is set to dualmode in the network settings, thedevice searches for the 3Gnetwork. You can set the device touse only the GSM network. To useonly the GSM network, selectMenu > Settings andConnectivity > Network >Network mode > GSM.

• The backlight of the displayincreases the demand on batterypower. In the display settings, youcan change the length of the time-out period after which thebacklight is switched off. SelectMenu > Settings and Phone >Display > Light time-out. To

adjust the light sensor thatobserves lighting conditions andadjusts the display brightness, inthe display settings, select Lightsensor.

• Leaving applications running inthe background may increase thedemand on battery power. Toclose the applications you are notusing, if they are not responding,select Options > Show openapps., and go to the applicationusing the menu key. Press andhold the menu key to open theapplication, and select Options >Exit.

Insert the SIM card and batteryFollow the instructions carefully, toavoid damaging the back cover.

Always switch the device off anddisconnect the charger beforeremoving the battery.

1 Unlock the back cover releaselatch, and lift the back cover.

2 If the battery is inserted, lift thebattery in the direction of thearrow to remove it.

3 Insert the SIM card. Ensure thecontact area on the card is facingthe connectors on the device and

that the beveled corner is facingthe top of the device.

4 Align the battery contacts to thecorresponding connectors of thebattery compartment, and insertthe battery in the direction of thearrow.

5 To replace the back cover, directthe top locking hooks toward theirslots first and then press downuntil the cover locks into place.

Memory card

Use only compatible microSD cardsapproved by Nokia for use with thisdevice. Nokia uses approved industrystandards for memory cards, but somebrands may not be fully compatiblewith this device. Incompatible cardsmay damage the card and the deviceand corrupt data stored on the card.

Insert the memory cardA memory card may be alreadyinserted in the device. If not, do thefollowing:

1 Open the memory card slot cover.2 Insert a compatible memory card

in the slot. Ensure that the contactarea on the card is facing downand towards the slot.

3 Push the card in. You hear a clickwhen the card locks into place.

4 Close the memory card slot cover.

Remove the memory cardImportant: Do not remove thememory card during an operationwhen the card is being accessed. Doingso may damage the memory card and

the device, and corrupt data stored onthe card.

1 Before you remove the card, pressthe power key, and select Removememory card. All applications areclosed.

2 When Removing memory cardwill close all open applications.Remove anyway? is displayed,select Yes.

3 When Remove memory card andpress 'OK' is displayed, open thememory card slot cover.

4 To release the memory card fromthe slot, push it in slightly.

5 Pull out the memory card. If thedevice is switched on, select OK.

6 Close the memory card slot cover.

Antenna locationsYour device may have internal andexternal antennas. Avoid touching theantenna area unnecessarily while theantenna is transmitting or receiving.Contact with antennas affects thecommunication quality and may causea higher power level during operationand may reduce the battery life.

2 If prompted, enter a PIN code(provided by your network serviceprovider, for example, 1234) orlock code, and select OK. Thepreset lock code is 12345. If youforget the code and your device islocked, your device will requireservice and additional chargesmay apply. For more information,contact a Nokia Care point or yourdevice dealer.

Switch the device offPress and hold the power key.

Charge the batteryYour battery has been partiallycharged at the factory. If the device

indicates a low charge, do thefollowing:

1 Connect the charger to a walloutlet.

2 Connect the charger to the device.When the battery is charging, thecharging indicator light aroundthe charger connector is lit.

3 When the device indicates a fullcharge, disconnect the chargerfrom the device, then from thewall outlet.

You do not need to charge the batteryfor a specific length of time, and youcan use the device while it is charging.If the battery is completely discharged,it may take several minutes before thecharging indicator appears on thedisplay or before any calls can bemade.

Tip: Disconnect the charger from thewall outlet when the charger is not inuse. A charger that is connected to theoutlet consumes power even when itis not connected to the device.

Touch screen actionsUse the touch screen with your fingeror with a stylus (if available).

Important: Use only a stylusapproved by Nokia for use with thisdevice. Using any other stylus mayinvalidate any warranty applying tothe device and may damage the touchscreen. Avoid scratching the touchscreen. Never use an actual pen orpencil or other sharp objects to writeon the touch screen.

Tap and double-tap

To open an application or otherelement on the touch screen, younormally tap it with your finger.However, to open the following items,you must tap them twice.

• List items in an application, such asthe Drafts folder in the Messagingapplication.

• Files in a file list, for example, animage in the Captured folder in thePhotos application.

Tip: When you open a list view, thefirst item is already highlighted. Toopen the highlighted item, tap itonce.

If you tap a file or similar itemonce, it is not opened, butbecomes highlighted. To see theoptions available for the item,select Options or, if available,select an icon from a toolbar.

In this user documentation, to openapplications or items by tapping themonce or twice, you "select" them.

Example: To select Options > Help,tap Options, and then tap Help.

Drag

To drag, place your finger on thescreen, and slide it across the screen.

Example: To scroll up or down on aweb page, drag the page with yourfinger.

Swipe

To swipe, slide your finger quickly leftor right on the screen.

Flick

To flick, place your finger on thescreen, slide it quickly across thescreen, then quickly lift your finger.The content of the screen will continuescrolling with the speed and directionit had at the moment of release. Toselect an item from a scrolling list andto stop the movement, tap the item.

Scroll

To scroll up or down in lists that havea scroll bar, drag the slider of the scrollbar.

In some list views, you can scroll yourfinger on a list item and drag up ordown.

Tip: To view a brief description of iconsand buttons, place your finger on theicon or button. Descriptions are notavailable for all icons and buttons.

Touch screen backlight

To turn the screen backlight on, unlockthe screen and keys, if necessary, andpress the menu key.

Write textYou can enter text in different modes.The full keyboard works as atraditional keyboard, and the on-screen alphanumeric keypad modeallow you to tap characters. Thehandwriting recognition modes allowyou to write characters directly on thescreen.

To activate text input mode, tap anytext input field.

In the text input view, to switchbetween the available text inputmodes, tap , and select the desiredinput mode.

The input methods and languagessupported by the handwritingrecognition vary by region.

Keyboard inputKeyboard

Your device has a full keyboard. Toopen the keyboard, slide the touchscreen up. In all applications, thescreen rotates automatically fromportrait to landscape when you openthe keyboard.

1 Function key. To insert specialcharacters printed at the top ofkeys, press the function key, andthen press the desired key. Toenter several special characters ina row, press the function key twice

quickly. To return to normal mode,press the function key.

2 Shift key. To switch between upperand lower case modes, press theshift key twice. To enter a singleupper case character in lower casemode, or vice versa, press the shiftkey, and then the desired alphabetkey.

3 Sym key. To insert specialcharacters not shown on thekeyboard, press the sym key, andselect the desired character.

4 Ctrl key. Some shortcuts requirethe ctrl key.

5 Space key6 Shift key7 Enter key8 Navi™ key (scroll key). Press the

scroll key to make a selection.Press the edges of the scroll key toscroll left, right, up, or down on thedisplay. Press and hold the edge ofthe scroll key to acceleratescrolling.

9 Backspace key. To delete acharacter, press the backspacekey. To delete several characters,press and hold the backspace key.

Insert characters not shown on thekeyboard

It is possible to insert variations ofcharacters, for example, characterswith accents. To insert á, press andhold the sym key, and then press Arepeatedly, until the desired characteris displayed. The order and availabilityof letters depends on the selectedwriting language.

Lock the keys and touch screen

To lock or unlock the touch screen andthe keys, slide the lock switch on theside of the device.

When the touch screen and keys arelocked, the touch screen is switched offand the keys are inactive.

To change settings for automaticscreen and key locking, select Menu >Settings and Phone > Phonemgmt. > Auto. keyguard.

HeadsetYou can connect a compatible headsetor compatible headphones to yourdevice. You may need to select thecable mode.

Warning:When you use the headset, your abilityto hear outside sounds may beaffected. Do not use the headset whereit can endanger your safety.

Do not connect products that create anoutput signal as this may causedamage to the device. Do not connect

any voltage source to the Nokia AVConnector.

When connecting any external deviceor any headset, other than thoseapproved by Nokia for use with thisdevice, to the Nokia AV Connector, payspecial attention to volume levels.

Transfer contentYou can use the Switch application tocopy content such as phone numbers,addresses, calendar items, and imagesfrom your previous Nokia device toyour device.

The type of content that can betransferred depends on the model ofthe device from which you want totransfer content. If that devicesupports synchronization, you can alsosynchronize data between the devices.Your device notifies you if the otherdevice is not compatible.

If the other device cannot be switchedon without a SIM card, you can insertyour SIM card in it. When your device isswitched on without a SIM card, theOffline profile is automaticallyactivated, and transfer can be done.

Transfer content for the first time1 To retrieve data from the other

device for the first time, on yourdevice, select Menu >Applications > Tools > Phonesetup > Phone switch.

2 Select the connection type youwant to use to transfer the data.Both devices must support theselected connection type.

3 If you select Bluetoothconnectivity as the connectiontype, connect the two devices. To

have your device search fordevices with Bluetoothconnectivity, select Continue.Select the device from which youwant to transfer content. You areasked to enter a code on yourdevice. Enter a code (1-16 digits),and select OK. Enter the same codeon the other device, and selectOK. The devices are now paired.Some earlier Nokia devices maynot have the Switch application. Inthis case, the Switch application issent to the other device as amessage. To install the Switchapplication on the other device,open the message, and follow theinstructions on the display.

4 On your device, select the contentyou want to transfer from theother device.When the transfer has started, youcan cancel it and continue later.

Content is transferred from thememory of the other device to thecorresponding location in your device.The transfer time depends on theamount of data to be transferred.

Home screenAbout the home screenIn the home screen, you can quicklyaccess your most frequently usedapplications, control applications,such as the music player, view yourfavorite contacts, and view at a glanceif you have missed calls or newmessages.

Interactive home screen elements

To open the clock application, tap theclock (1).

To open the calendar or changeprofiles in the home screen, tap thedate or the profile name (2).

To view or edit connectivity settings( ), to see the available Wi-Finetworks if Wi-Fi scanning is enabled,or to view the missed events, tap thetop right corner (3).

To open the dialer to make a phonecall, select (4).

To hide and show content, swipe thehome screen with your finger.

Add items to the home screenSelect and hold an empty area in thehome screen, and from the pop-upmenu, select Add content and theitem.

Using widgets may involve thetransmission of large amounts of data(network service).

Move an item in the home screenSelect Options > Edit content and thedesired item, and drag and drop it to anew location.

Remove an item from the homescreen.Select and hold the item to remove,and from the pop-up menu, selectRemove.

Display indicatorsGeneral indicators

Call indicators

Someone has tried to call you.

You are using your secondphone line (network service).You have set your device todivert incoming calls toanother number (networkservice). If you have twophone lines, a numberindicates the active line.Your device is ready for aninternet call.You have an ongoing data call(network service).

Messaging indicators

You have unread messages. Ifthe indicator is blinking, theSIM card memory formessages may be full.You have received new mail.

You have messages waiting tobe sent in the Outbox folder.

Network indicators

Touch screen during callsYour device has a proximity sensor. Toextend battery life and preventaccidental selections, the touch screenis disabled automatically during calls,when you place the device next to yourear.

Do not cover the proximity sensor, forexample, with protective film or tape.

Make a voice call 1 In the home screen, select to

open the dialer, and enter thephone number, including the areacode. To remove a number, selectC.For international calls, select *twice for the + character (whichreplaces the international accesscode), and enter the country code,area code (omit the leading zero ifnecessary), and phone number.The + character as a replacementfor the international access codemay not work in all regions. To answer a call, press the call key orswipe Swipe to answer from left toright. Swipe is in use only when thetouch screen is locked.

To unlock the touch screen withoutanswering a call, swipe Swipe tounlock from right to left, and thenanswer or reject the call, or send areject call text message. The ringingtone is muted automatically.

If you do not want to answer a call, toreject the call, press the end key. If thecall divert feature (network service) isactivated, rejecting an incoming callalso diverts the call.

To mute the ringing tone of anincoming call, select Silence.

To send a reject call text messagewithout actually rejecting the call,informing the caller that you cannotanswer the call, select Silence > Sendmsg., edit the message text, and pressthe call key.

To activate the reject call text messagefeature, select Menu > Settings andCalling > Call > Decline call withmsg.. To write your standard message,select Message text.

Your device offers several options toconnect to the internet or to anothercompatible device or PC.

Wi-Fi/WLAN connection Your device can detect and connect towireless local area networks (WLAN).Using a WLAN, you can connect yourdevice to the internet and compatibledevices that have WLAN support.

About WLANTo use a wireless LAN (WLAN)connection, it must be available in thelocation, and your device must beconnected to the WLAN. Some WLANsare protected, and you need an accesskey from the service provider toconnect to them.

Features that use WLAN, or that areallowed to run in the backgroundwhile using other features, increasethe demand on battery power andreduce the battery life.

Important: Always enable one of theavailable encryption methods toincrease the security of your wirelessLAN connection. Using encryptionreduces the risk of unauthorizedaccess to your data.

Wi-Fi/WLAN wizardSelect Menu > Settings andConnectivity > Wi-Fi.

The Wi-Fi/ WLAN wizard helps you toconnect to a wireless LAN (WLAN) andmanage your Wi-Fi/ WLANconnections.

If the search finds WLANs, to create aninternet access point (IAP) for aconnection and start the web browserusing this IAP, select the connectionand Start web browsing.

If you select a secured WLAN, you areasked to enter the relevant password.To connect to a hidden network, youmust enter the correct network name(service set identifier, SSID).

If you already have the web browserrunning using the currently active Wi-Fi/ WLAN connection, to return to theweb browser, select Continue webbrowsing.

To end the active connection, selectthe connection and Disconnect Wi-Fi.

Bluetooth connectivityAbout Bluetooth connectivityWith Bluetooth connectivity, you canmake a wireless connection to othercompatible devices, such as mobilephones, computers, headsets, and carkits.

You can use the connection to senditems from your device, transfer filesfrom your compatible PC, and printfiles with a compatible printer.

Select Menu > Settings andConnectivity > Bluetooth.

Since devices with Bluetooth wirelesstechnology communicate using radiowaves, they do not need to be in directline-of-sight. However, they must bewithin 10 metres (33 feet) of eachother, although the connection may be

BatteryBattery and charger informationYour device is powered by a rechargeable battery. Thebattery intended for use with this device is BL-4J. Nokiamay make additional battery models available for thisdevice. This device is intended for use when suppliedwith power from the following chargers: AC-15, AC-5, orAC-8. The exact charger model number may varydepending on the type of plug. The plug variant isidentified by one of the following: E, EB, X, AR, U, A, C, K,or UB.

The battery can be charged and discharged hundreds oftimes, but it will eventually wear out. When the talk andstandby times are noticeably shorter than normal,replace the battery. Use only Nokia approved batteries,and recharge your battery only with Nokia approvedchargers designated for this device.

If a battery is being used for the first time or if the batteryhas not been used for a prolonged period, it may benecessary to connect the charger, then disconnect andreconnect it to begin charging the battery. If the batteryis completely discharged, it may take several minutesbefore the charging indicator appears on the display orbefore any calls can be made.

Safe removal. Always switch the device off anddisconnect the charger before removing the battery.

Proper charging. Unplug the charger from the electricalplug and the device when not in use. Do not leave a fullycharged battery connected to a charger, sinceovercharging may shorten its lifetime. If left unused, afully charged battery will lose its charge over time.

Avoid extreme temperatures. Always try to keep thebattery between 59°F and 77°F (15°C and 25°C). Extremetemperatures reduce the capacity and lifetime of thebattery. A device with a hot or cold battery may not worktemporarily. Battery performance is particularly limitedin temperatures well below freezing.

Do not short-circuit. Accidental short-circuiting can occurwhen a metallic object such as a coin, clip, or pen causesdirect connection of the positive (+) and negative (-)terminals of the battery. (These look like metal strips onthe battery.) This might happen, for example, when youcarry a spare battery in your pocket or purse. Short-circuiting the terminals may damage the battery or theconnecting object.

Disposal. Do not dispose of batteries in a fire as they mayexplode. Dispose of batteries according to localregulations. Please recycle when possible. Do notdispose as household waste.

Leak. Do not dismantle, cut, open, crush, bend, puncture,or shred cells or batteries. In the event of a battery leak,prevent battery liquid contact with skin or eyes. If thishappens, flush the affected areas immediately withwater, or seek medical help.

Damage. Do not modify, remanufacture, attempt toinsert foreign objects into the battery or immerse orexpose it to water or other liquids. Batteries mayexplode if damaged.

Correct use. Use the battery only for its intendedpurpose. Improper battery use may result in a fire,explosion, or other hazard. If the device or battery isdropped, especially on a hard surface, and you believethe battery has been damaged, take it to a service centerfor inspection before continuing to use it. Never use anycharger or battery that is damaged. Keep your batteryout of the reach of small children.

Nokia battery authentication guidelinesAlways use original Nokia batteries for your safety. Tocheck that you are getting an original Nokia battery,purchase it from a Nokia authorized service center ordealer, and inspect the hologram label using thefollowing steps:

Authenticate hologram1 When you look at the hologram on the label, you

should see the Nokia connecting hands symbolfrom one angle and the Nokia Original Accessorieslogo when looking from another angle.

2 When you angle the hologram left, right, downand up, you should see 1, 2, 3 and 4 dots on eachside respectively.

Successful completion of the steps is not a totalassurance of the authenticity of the battery. If youcannot confirm authenticity or if you have any reason tobelieve that your Nokia battery with the hologram onthe label is not an authentic Nokia battery, you shouldrefrain from using it, and take it to the nearest Nokiaauthorized service center or dealer for assistance.

Taking care of your deviceYour device is a product of superior design andcraftsmanship and should be treated with care. Thefollowing suggestions will help you protect yourwarranty coverage.

• Keep the device dry. Precipitation, humidity, andall types of liquids or moisture can containminerals that will corrode electronic circuits. Ifyour device does get wet, remove the battery, andallow the device to dry completely beforereplacing it.

• Do not use or store the device in dusty, dirty areas.Its moving parts and electronic components canbe damaged.

• Do not store the device in high or coldtemperatyre. High temperatures can shorten thelife of electronic devices, damage batteries, andwarp or melt certain plastics. When the devicewarms to its normal temperature from a coldtemperature, moisture can form inside the deviceand damage electronic circuit boards.

• Do not attempt to open the device other than asinstructed in this guide.

• Do not drop, knock, or shake the device. Roughhandling can break internal circuit boards and finemechanics.

• Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, orstrong detergents to clean the device. Only use asoft, clean, dry cloth to clean the surface of thedevice.

• Do not paint the device. Paint can clog the movingparts and prevent proper operation.

• Use only the supplied or an approved replacementantenna. Unauthorized antennas, modifications,or attachments could damage the device and mayviolate regulations governing radio devices.

• Use chargers indoors.• Backup all data you want to keep, such as contacts

and calendar notes.• To reset the device from time to time for optimum

performance, power off the device and remove thebattery.

Operating environmentThis device meets RF exposure guidelines in the normaluse position at the ear or at least 1.5 centimeters (5/8inch) away from the body. Any carry case, belt clip, orholder for body-worn operation should not containmetal and should position the device the above-stateddistance from your body.

To send data files or messages requires a qualityconnection to the network. Data files or messages maybe delayed until such a connection is available. Followthe separation distance instructions until thetransmission is completed.

Parts of the device are magnetic. Metallic materials maybe attracted to the device. Do not place credit cards orother magnetic storage media near the device, becauseinformation stored on them may be erased.

Medical devicesOperation of radio transmitting equipment, includingwireless phones, may interfere with the function ofinadequately protected medical devices. Consult aphysician or the manufacturer of the medical device todetermine whether they are adequately shielded fromexternal RF energy. Switch off your device whenregulations posted instruct you to do so. Hospitals orhealth care facilities may use equipment sensitive toexternal RF energy.

Implanted medical devicesManufacturers of medical devices recommend aminimum separation of 15.3 centimeters (6 inches)between a wireless device and an implanted medicaldevice, such as a pacemaker or implanted cardioverterdefibrillator, to avoid potential interference with themedical device. Persons who have such devices should:

• Always keep the wireless device more than 15.3centimeters (6 inches) from the medical device.

• Not carry the wireless device in a breast pocket.• Hold the wireless device to the ear opposite the

medical device.• Turn the wireless device off if there is any reason

to suspect that interference is taking place.• Follow the manufacturer directions for the

implanted medical device.

If you have any questions about using your wirelessdevice with an implanted medical device, consult yourhealth care provider.

Hearing aidsSome digital wireless devices may interfere with somehearing aids.

VehiclesRF signals may affect improperly installed orinadequately shielded electronic systems in motorvehicles such as electronic fuel injection, electronicantilock braking, electronic speed control, and air bagsystems. For more information, check with themanufacturer of your vehicle or its equipment.

Only qualified personnel should service the device orinstall the device in a vehicle. Faulty installation orservice may be dangerous and may invalidate yourwarranty. Check regularly that all wireless deviceequipment in your vehicle is mounted and operatingproperly. Do not store or carry flammable liquids, gases,or explosive materials in the same compartment as thedevice, its parts, or accessories. Remember that air bagsinflate with great force. Do not place your device oraccessories in the air bag deployment area.

Switch off your device before boarding an aircraft. Theuse of wireless teledevices in an aircraft may bedangerous to the operation of the aircraft and may beillegal.

Potentially explosive environmentsSwitch off your device in any area with a potentiallyexplosive atmosphere. Obey all posted instructions.Sparks in such areas could cause an explosion or fireresulting in bodily injury or death. Switch off the deviceat refueling points such as near gas pumps at servicestations. Observe restrictions in fuel depots, storage, anddistribution areas; chemical plants; or where blastingoperations are in progress. Areas with a potentiallyexplosive atmosphere are often, but not always, clearlymarked. They include areas where you would be advisedto turn off your vehicle engine, below deck on boats,chemical transfer or storage facilities and where the aircontains chemicals or particles such as grain, dust, ormetal powders. You should check with themanufacturers of vehicles using liquefied petroleum gas(such as propane or butane) to determine if this devicecan be safely used in their vicinity.

Emergency callsImportant: This device operates using radio signals,wireless networks, landline networks and user-programmed functions. If your device supports voicecalls over the internet (internet calls), activate both the

internet calls and the cellular phone. The device willattempt to make emergency calls over both the cellularnetworks and through your internet call provider if bothare activated. Connections in all conditions cannot beguaranteed. You should never rely solely on any wirelessdevice for essential communications like medicalemergencies.

To make an emergency call:

1 If the device is not on, switch it on. Check foradequate signal strength. Depending on yourdevice, you may also need to complete thefollowing:

• Insert a SIM card if your device uses one.• Remove certain call restrictions you have

activated in your device.• Change your profile from offline profile

mode to an active profile.• If the screen and keys are locked, slide the

lock switch on the side of the device tounlock them.

2 Press the end key as many times as needed to clearthe display and ready the device for calls.

3 Open the dialer by selecting the dialer icon ( ).

4 Enter the official emergency number for yourpresent location. Emergency numbers vary bylocation.

5 Press the call key.

When making an emergency call, give all the necessaryinformation as accurately as possible. Your wirelessdevice may be the only means of communication at thescene of an accident. Do not end the call until givenpermission to do so.

Certification information (SAR)This mobile device meets guidelines for exposure toradio waves.

Your mobile device is a radio transmitter and receiver. Itis designed not to exceed the limits for exposure to radiowaves recommended by international guidelines. Theseguidelines were developed by the independent scientificorganization ICNIRP and include safety marginsdesigned to assure the protection of all persons,regardless of age and health.

The exposure guidelines for mobile devices employ aunit of measurement known as the Specific AbsorptionRate or SAR. The SAR limit stated in the ICNIRP guidelinesis 2.0 watts/kilogram (W/kg) averaged over 10 grams of

tissue. Tests for SAR are conducted using standardoperating positions with the device transmitting at itshighest certified power level in all tested frequencybands. The actual SAR level of an operating device canbe below the maximum value because the device isdesigned to use only the power required to reach thenetwork. That amount changes depending on a numberof factors such as how close you are to a network basestation.

The highest SAR value under the ICNIRP guidelines foruse of the device at the ear is 1.05 W/kg.

Use of device accessories may result in different SARvalues. SAR values may vary depending on nationalreporting and testing requirements and the networkband. Additional SAR information may be providedunder product information at www.nokia.com.

Your mobile device is also designed to meet therequirements for exposure to radio waves establishedby the Federal Communications Commission (USA) andIndustry Canada. These requirements set a SAR limit of1.6 W/kg averaged over one gram of tissue. The highestSAR value reported under this standard during productcertification for use at the ear is 1.20 W/kg and whenproperly worn on the body is 1.21 W/kg.
