About your deviceThe wireless device described in this guideis approved for use on the (E)GSM 850, 900,1800 and 1900 MHz networks, and UMTS900 and 2100 MHz HSDPA and HSUPA

networks. Contact your service providerfor more information about networks.

Your device supports several connectivitymethods and like computers may beexposed to viruses and other harmfulcontent. Exercise caution with messages,connectivity requests, browsing, anddownloads. Only install and use servicesand software from trustworthy sourcesthat offer adequate security andprotection, such as applications that areSymbian Signed or have passed the JavaVerified™ testing. Office applicationsThe office applications support commonfeatures of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint,and Excel (Microsoft Office 2000, XP, and2003). Not all file formats are supported.

Network servicesTo use the device you must have servicefrom a wireless service provider. Somefeatures are not available on all networks;other features may require that you makespecific arrangements with your serviceprovider to use them. Network servicesinvolve transmission of data. Check withyour service provider for details aboutfees in your home network and whenroaming on other networks. Your serviceprovider can explain what charges willapply. Some networks may havelimitations that affect how you can usesome features of this device requiringnetwork support such as support forspecific technologies like WAP 2.0protocols (HTTP and SSL) that run onTCP/IP protocols and language-dependent characters.

Your service provider may have requestedthat certain features be disabled or notactivated in your device. If so, thesefeatures will not appear on your devicemenu. Your device may also havecustomized items such as menu names,menu order, and icons.

Safe removal. Always switch the device offand disconnect the charger beforeremoving the battery.

Insert SIM card and battery

Important: Do not use a mini-UICCSIM card, also known as a micro-SIM card,a micro-SIM card with an adapter, or a SIMcard that has a mini-UICC cutout (see

figure) in this device. A micro SIM card issmaller than the standard SIM card. Thisdevice does not support the use of micro-SIM cards and use of incompatible SIMcards may damage the card or the device,and may corrupt data stored on the card.

1 To remove the back cover of thedevice, pull the release button (1)toward the bottom of the device, andlift the cover off (2).

2 Remove the battery and slide the SIMcard into the SIM card holder. Makesure the contact area is facing down.

3 Insert the battery.

4 To replace the back cover, carefullyalign the top lugs (1), and line up theback cover, then gently press downuntil the cover locks into place (2).

Insert a memory cardThe memory card may be supplied withthe device, and may already be inserted.

1 Use your fingernail to open thememory card slot cover.

2 Place the card in the slot with thecontact area facing up.

3 Push the card gently to lock it intoplace. Close the slot cover.

Wrist strapThread the wrist strap, and tighten it.

A wrist strap may not be included.

Charge the batteryYour battery has been partially charged atthe factory, but you may need to rechargeit before you can switch on your device forthe first time.

If the device indicates a low charge, do thefollowing:

1 Connect the charger to a wall outlet.2 Connect the charger to the device.

3 When the battery is fully charged,disconnect the charger from thedevice, then from the wall outlet.

You do not need to charge the battery fora specific length of time, and you can usethe device while it is charging. If thebattery is completely discharged, it maytake several minutes before the chargingindicator appears on the display or beforeany calls can be made.

Tip: If you have old compatible Nokiachargers, you can use them with yourdevice by attaching the CA-44 chargeradapter to the old charger. The adapter isavailable as a separate accessory.

USB chargingYou can use USB charging when a walloutlet is not available. When chargingyour device with the USB data cable, thecharging time is longer. USB chargingefficiency varies significantly. In somecases, it may take a very long time forcharging to start and the device to startfunctioning.

With USB charging, you can also transferdata with the USB data cable whilecharging the device.

1 Connect a compatible USB device toyour device using a compatible USBdata cable.Depending on the type of the devicethat is used for charging, it may takea while for charging to start.

2 If the device is switched on, selectfrom the available USB mode optionson the display of the device.

Switch the device on and off

Press and hold the power key to switch thedevice on and off. Press the power keybriefly to end a call or close an application.

If the device asks for a PIN code, enter thePIN code, and select OK.

If the device asks for the lock code, enterthe lock code, and select OK. The factorysetting for the lock code is 12345.

To set the correct time zone, time, anddate, select the country you are presentlyin, then enter the local time and date.

Keypad lock (keyguard)To lock the keypad in the home screen,press the left selection key and * within1.5 seconds.

To set the device to automatically lock thekeypad after a certain time, select >Settings and General > Security >Phone and SIM card > Keypad autolockperiod > User defined, and select thedesired time.

To unlock the keypad, select Unlock, andpress *. When the device or keypad islocked, calls may be possible to the officialemergency number programmed intoyour device.

Volume controlTo adjust the earpiece or loudspeakervolume during a call or when listening toan audio file, use the volume keys.

To activate or deactivate the loudspeakerduring a call, select Loudsp. or Handset.

Warning:Continuous exposure to high volume maydamage your hearing. Listen to music at amoderate level, and do not hold the devicenear your ear when the loudspeaker is inuse.

Connect a compatible headsetDo not connect products that create anoutput signal as this may cause damageto the device. Do not connect any voltagesource to the Nokia AV Connector.

When connecting any external device orany headset, other than those approvedby Nokia for use with this device, to theNokia AV Connector, pay special attentionto volume levels.

Connect a USB data cableConnect a compatible USB data cable tothe USB connector.

To select the default USB connection modeor change the active mode, select >Settings and Connectivity > USB > USBconnection mode, and select the desiredmode.

To select whether the default mode isactivated automatically, select Ask onconnection.

Antenna locationsYour device may have internal andexternal antennas. Avoid touching theantenna area unnecessarily while theantenna is transmitting or receiving.Contact with antennas affects thecommunication quality and may cause ahigher power level during operation andmay reduce the battery life.

Transfer content from another deviceSelect > Settings > Switch.

With the Switch application, you cantransfer content, such as contacts,between two compatible Nokia devices.

The type of content that can betransferred depends on the model of thedevice from which you want to transfercontent. If the other device supportssynchronisation, you can also synchronisedata between the other device and yourdevice. Your device notifies you if theother device is not compatible.

If the other device cannot be switched onwithout a SIM card, you can insert your SIMcard in it. When your device is switched onwithout a SIM card, the offline profile isautomatically activated.

The other device must support Bluetoothconnectivity.

Transfer contentTo retrieve data from your other device forthe first time:

1 Activate Bluetooth connectivity inboth devices.

2 Select the device from which you wantto transfer content. You are asked toenter a code on your device. Enter acode (1-16 digits), and select OK. Enterthe same code on the other device,and select OK. The devices are nowpaired.For some device models, the Switchapplication is sent to the other deviceas a message. To install the Switchapplication on the other device, openthe message, and follow theinstructions.

3 From your device, select the contentyou want to transfer from the otherdevice.

Content is transferred from the memory ofthe other device to the correspondinglocation in your device.

Transfer time depends on the amount ofdata to be transferred. You can cancel thetransfer and continue later.

The synchronisation is two-way, and thedata in both devices is the same. If an itemis deleted from either device, it is deletedfrom the other device whensynchronising; you cannot restore deleteditems by synchronising.

To view the log of the last transfer, selecta shortcut in the main view andOptions > View log.

Install Ovi SuiteWith the Nokia Ovi Suite application for PC,you can easily access the files on yourNokia C5-00, your other Nokia devices,and Ovi, all from a single view. You can

transfer and synchronise messages,contacts, images, music, and morebetween your computer and device. Youcan also register for a Nokia account,share your images on Ovi, update yourdevice software, download maps, andkeep your content secure and accessible.

For information on how to install OviSuite, see the included Ovi Suite leaflet.

If you do not want to install Ovi Suite, youcan delete the installation files from thememory card to increase the availablememory on the card.

• Download games, applications,videos, and ringtones to your device

• Find your way with free walk anddrive navigation, plan trips, and viewlocations on a map

Remove a memory card

Important: Do not remove thememory card during an operation whenthe card is being accessed. Doing so maydamage the memory card and the device,and corrupt data stored on the card.

1 Press the power key briefly, and selectRemove memory card > Yes.

2 Open the memory card slot cover.3 Press the memory card gently to

release it.4 Pull the card out, and select OK.5 Close the slot cover.

device, pull the release button (1)toward the bottom of the device, andlift the cover off (2).

Write textTraditional text input

indicates traditional text input.

and indicate the uppercaseand lowercase. indicates thesentence case, that is, the first letter of thesentence is written in uppercase and allthe other letters are automatically writtenin lowercase. indicates numbermode.

To write text with the keypad, press anumber key, 2-9, repeatedly until thedesired character is displayed. There aremore characters available for a numberkey than are printed on the key. If the nextletter is located on the same key as thepresent one, wait until the cursor isdisplayed, and enter the letter.

To insert a number, press and hold thenumber key.

To switch between the different charactercases and modes, press #.

To erase a character, press the clear key.Press and hold the clear key to erase morethan one character.

To enter the most common punctuationmarks, press 1 repeatedly until thedesired punctuation mark is displayed.

To add special characters, press and hold*.

To add a smiley, press *, and select Moreemoticons and a smiley.

To insert a space, press 0. To insert a linebreak, press 0 three times.

Predictive text input1 To activate or deactivate predictive

text input, press # twice quickly. Thisactivates or deactivates predictivetext input for all editors in the device.

indicates that predictive textinput is activated.

2 To write the desired word, press thekeys 2-9. Press each key once for eachletter.

3 When you have finished writing theword, and it is correct, scroll right toconfirm it, or press 0 to add a space.If the word is not correct, press *repeatedly to view the matchingwords in the dictionary.If the ? character is displayed after theword, the word you intended to writeis not in the dictionary. To add a wordto the dictionary, select Spell, enterthe word (up to 32 letters) usingtraditional text input, and select OK.The word is added to the dictionary.When the dictionary is full, the newword replaces the oldest added word.

Write the first part of a compound word;to confirm it, scroll right. Write the secondpart of the compound word. To completethe compound word, press 0 to add aspace.

Change the writing languageWhen you are writing text, you can changethe writing language. For example, if youpress the 6 key repeatedly to reach aspecific character, changing the writinglanguage gives you access to characters ina different order.

If you are writing text using a non-Latinalphabet and want to write Latincharacters, for example e-mail or webaddresses, you may need to change thewriting language. To change the writinglanguage, select Options > Inputoptions > Writing language, and awriting language that uses Latincharacters.

Copy and delete text1 To select letters and words, press and

hold #, and at the same time scroll leftor right. To select lines of text, pressand hold #, and at the same timescroll up or down.

2 To copy the text, press and hold #, andat the same time select Copy.To delete the selected text, press theclear key C.

3 To paste the text, scroll to the desiredlocation, press and hold #, and at thesame time select Paste.

MenuPress .

In the menu, you can access the functionsin your device.

To open an application or a folder, selectthe item.

If you change the order of the functions inthe menu, the order may differ from thedefault order described in this user guide.

To mark or unmark an item inapplications, press #.

To change the menu view, selectOptions > Change Menu view.

To close an application or a folder, selectOptions > Exit.

To display and switch between openapplications, press and hold the homekey, and select an application.

Leaving applications running in thebackground increases the demand onbattery power and reduces the batterylife.

Display indicators

The device is being used in a 3Gnetwork or a GSM network (networkservice). The bar next to the iconindicates the signal strength of thenetwork at your current location.The higher the bar, the stronger thesignal.

High-speed downlink packet access(HSDPA) / high-speed uplink packetaccess (HSUPA) (network service) inthe 3G network is activated.

You have activated the offlineprofile, and the device is notconnected to a cellular network.

The battery charge level. The higherthe bar, the more charge remains inthe battery.

You have unread messages in theInbox folder in Messaging. If theindicator is blinking, your Inbox isfull and you need to remove oldmessages from the Inbox beforeyou can receive new messages.

You have received new e-mail in theremote mailbox.

There are messages waiting to besent in the Outbox folder inMessaging.

You have missed calls.

The keys of the device are locked.

An alarm is active.

You have activated the silentprofile, and the device does not ringfor an incoming call or message.

Bluetooth connectivity is activated.

A Bluetooth connection isestablished. When the indicator isblinking, your device is trying toconnect with another device.

A GPRS packet data connection isavailable (network service). indicates that the connection is

active. indicates that theconnection is on hold.

An EGPRS packet data connection isavailable (network service). indicates that the connection isactive. indicates that theconnection is on hold.

A 3G packet data connection isavailable (network service). indicates that the connection isactive. indicates that theconnection is on hold.

HSDPA/HSUPA is supported andavailable (network service). Theicon may vary between regions. indicates that the connection isactive. indicates that theconnection is on hold.

Your device is connected to acomputer with a USB data cable.

The second phone line is being used(network service).

All calls are forwarded to anothernumber. If you have two phonelines, a number indicates the activeline.

A headset or a loopset is connectedto the device.

A hands-free car kit is connected tothe device.

Number key(2–9)

Call a phone number usingspeed dialling. To activatespeed dialling, select >Settings and Phone >Call > Speed dialling.

Offline profileTo quickly activate the Offline profile,press the power key briefly, and selectOffline.

To switch to another profile, press thepower key briefly, and select a profile.

When the Offline profile is active, allconnections that use radio frequenciesare closed. However, you can use yourdevice without the SIM card and listen tothe radio or music. Remember to switchoff your device when wireless phone useis prohibited.

Important: In the Offline profileyou cannot make or receive any calls, oruse other features that require cellularnetwork coverage. Calls may still bepossible to the official emergency numberprogrammed into your device. To makecalls, you must first activate the phonefunction by changing profiles. If the devicehas been locked, enter the lock code.

Access codesSelect > Settings.

To define how your device uses the accesscodes and security settings, selectGeneral > Security > Phone and SIMcard and from the following:

• The PIN (UPIN) code, supplied with theSIM (USIM) card, helps to protect thecard against unauthorised use.

• The PIN2 (UPIN2) code, supplied withsome SIM (USIM) cards, is required toaccess certain services.

• PUK (UPUK) and PUK2 (UPUK2) codesmay be supplied with the SIM (USIM)card. If you enter the PIN codeincorrectly three times in succession,you are asked for the PUK code. If thecodes are not supplied, contact yourservice provider.

• The security code helps to protectyour phone against unauthorised use.You can create and change the code,and set the phone to request the code.Keep the code secret and in a safeplace separate from your phone. Ifyou forget the code and your phone islocked, your phone will requireservice. Additional charges may apply,and all the personal data in yourdevice may be deleted. For moreinformation, contact a Nokia Carepoint or your device dealer.

• The barring password is requiredwhen using the call barring service torestrict calls to and from your phone(network service).

Configuration settingsBefore you can use multimediamessaging, e-mail, synchronisation,streaming, and the browser, you musthave the proper configuration settings inyour device. Your device mayautomatically configure browser,multimedia messaging, access point, andstreaming settings based on the SIM cardused. If not, you can use the Settingswizard application to configure thesettings. You may receive the settings asa configuration message that you can saveto your device. For more information onavailability, contact your service provideror nearest authorised Nokia dealer.

When you receive a configurationmessage, and the settings are notautomatically saved and activated, 1 newmessage is displayed. To save thesettings, select Show > Options > Save.You may need to enter a PIN codeprovided by the service provider.

Settings wizardWith Settings wizard, you can define e-mail and connection settings. Theavailability of the items in Settings wizarddepends on the features of the device, SIMcard, service provider, and the data in theSettings wizard database.

Select > Settings > Sett. wizard.

To get the best results when usingSettings wizard, keep your SIM cardinserted in the device. If the SIM card is notinserted, follow the instructions on thedisplay.

Operator — Define the operator-specificsettings, such as MMS, internet, WAP, andstreaming settings.E-mail setup — Configure a POP, IMAP, orMail for Exchange account.Video sharing — Configure videosharing settings.

The settings available for editing mayvary.

Remote lockYou can lock your device from anotherdevice using a text message. To enableyour device to be locked remotely, and todefine the lock message to be used, select

> Settings > Settings > General >Security and Phone and SIM card >Remote phone locking. When you haveentered the message, select OK. Themessage can be up to 20 characters long.

To lock your device, send the lock messageas a text message to your mobile phonenumber. To unlock your device later,select Unlock, and enter the lock code.

Personalise your device

Home screenWhen you have switched on the device,and it is registered to a network, thedevice is in the home screen and ready foruse.

To open a list of most recently diallednumbers, press the call key.

To call your voice mailbox, press and hold1.

To use voice commands or voice dialling,press and hold the right selection key.

To change the profile, press the power keybriefly, and select a profile.

To open a connection to the web, pressand hold 0.

To modify the home screen, select >Settings and General >Personalisation > Standby mode andfrom the following:Standby theme — Select a home screentheme.Shortcuts — Add shortcuts toapplications or events, or assign shortcutsto the scroll key, depending on theselected home screen theme.

Contacts barTo add a contact to your home screen,select the Add contact icon and a contactfrom the list.

To create a new contact, select Options >New contact, enter the details, and selectDone. You can also add an image to thecontact information.

To add a web feed for a contact, select theAdd feed icon, the desired feed from thelist, and Done.

To create a new feed, select Options >New feed.

To update a feed, select Refresh.

To remove a contact from the homescreen, in the contact information view,select the Settings icon and Remove.

ThemesChange the display themeSelect > Settings > Themes.

Select from the following:General — Change the theme used in allapplications.Menu view — Change the theme used inthe main menu.Standby — Change the theme used in thehome screen.Wallpaper — Change the backgroundimage of the home screen.Power saver — Select an animation forthe power saver.Call image — Change the imagedisplayed during calls.

To activate or deactivate the themeeffects, select General > Options >Theme effects.

Download a themeSelect > Settings > Themes.

To download a theme, select General >Download themes > Options > Go to >New web page. Enter the web address

from which you want to download yourtheme. Once the theme is downloaded,you can preview or activate the theme.

To preview a theme, select Options >Preview.

To activate a theme, select Options >Set.

Talking themeSelect > Settings > Themes andStandby > Talking theme.

When the talking theme is activated, a listof functions supported by the talkingtheme is displayed in the active standbymode. As you scroll through the functions,the device reads the displayed functionsaloud. Select the desired function.

To listen to the entries in your contactslist, select Call features > Contacts.

To listen to information on your missedand received calls, and dialled numbers,select Call features > Recent calls.

To make a call by entering the phonenumber, select Call features > Diallerand the desired numbers. To enter aphone number, scroll to the digits andselect them one by one.

To call your voice mailbox, select Callfeatures > Voice mailbox.

To use voice commands to make a call,select Voice commands.

To have your received messages readaloud, select Message reader.

To listen to the current time, select Clock.To listen to the current date, scroll down.

If the calendar alarm expires when you areusing voice aid, the application reads thecalendar alarm content aloud.

To listen to the available options, selectOptions.

Profiles Select > Settings > Profiles.

You can adjust and customise the ringingtones, alert tones, and other device tonesfor different events, environments, orcaller groups. The active profile is shownat the top of the display in the standbymode. However, if the active profile isGeneral, only today's date is shown.

To create a new profile, select Options >Create new, and define the settings.

To customise a profile, select a profile andOptions > Personalise.

To activate a profile, select a profile andOptions > Activate.

To set the profile to be active until acertain time within the next 24 hours,scroll to the profile, select Options >Timed, and set the time. When the timeexpires, the profile changes back to thepreviously active non-timed profile. Whenthe profile is timed, is displayed in the

standby mode. The Offline profile cannotbe timed.

To delete a profile that you created, selectOptions > Delete profile. You cannotdelete the predefined profiles.

When the Offline profile is activated, yourconnection to the cellular network isclosed. All radio frequency signalsbetween the device and the cellularnetwork are prevented. If you try to senda message, it is placed in the Outboxfolder, and is sent only when anotherprofile is activated.

You can also use your device without a SIMcard. If you remove the SIM card, theOffline profile is activated.

Important: In the Offline profileyou cannot make or receive any calls, oruse other features that require cellularnetwork coverage. Calls may still bepossible to the official emergency numberprogrammed into your device. To makecalls, you must first activate the phonefunction by changing profiles. If the devicehas been locked, enter the lock code.

When you use the Offline profile, you canstill use Bluetooth connectivity.Remember to comply with any applicablesafety requirements when you establishand use a Bluetooth connection.

Telephone

Make a call

To make a call, enter the phone number,including the area code, and press the callkey.

Tip: For international calls, add the +character that replaces the internationalaccess code, and enter the country code,area code (omit the leading 0, ifnecessary), and phone number.

To end the call or cancel the call attempt,press the end key.

To make a call using the saved contacts,open the contacts. Enter the first letters ofthe name, scroll to the name, and pressthe call key.

To make a call using the log, press the callkey to view up to 20 numbers that you lastcalled or attempted to call. Scroll to thedesired number or name, and press thecall key.

To adjust the volume of an active call, usethe volume keys.

To switch from a voice call to a video call,select Options > Switch to video call.The device ends the voice call and makesa video call to the recipient.

Answer a call

To answer a call, press the call key.

To reject a call, press the end key.

To mute the ringing tone instead ofanswering a call, select Silence.

When you have an active call and the callwaiting feature (network service) isactivated, to answer a new incoming call,press the call key. The first call is put onhold. To end the active call, press the endkey.

Make a video call

To make a video call, enter the phonenumber or select the recipient from thecontacts list and Options > Call > Videocall. When the video call starts, thecamera of the device is activated. If thecamera is already in use, video sending isdisabled. If the recipient of the call doesnot want to send video back to you, a stillimage is shown instead. To define the stillimage sent from your device instead ofvideo, select > Settings and Phone >Call > Image in video call.

To disable the sending of audio, video, orvideo and audio, select Options >Disable > Sending audio, Sendingvideo, or Sending aud. & video.

To adjust the volume of an active videocall, use the volume keys.

To use the loudspeaker, select Options >Activate loudspeaker. To mute theloudspeaker and use the earpiece, selectOptions > Activate handset.

To swap the places of images, selectOptions > Swap images.

To zoom the image on the display, selectOptions > Zoom and scroll up or down.

To end the video call and make a newvoice call to the same recipient, selectOptions > Switch to voice call.

Answer or decline a video callWhen a video call arrives, is displayed.

To answer the video call, press the call key.Allow video image to be sent to caller?is displayed.

To start sending live video image, selectYes.

If you do not activate the video call, youonly hear the sound of the caller. A greyscreen replaces the video image. Toreplace the grey screen with a still imagecaptured by the camera in your device,select > Settings and Phone > Call >Image in video call.

To end the video call, press the end key.

Video sharing requirementsVideo sharing requires a 3G connection forboth parties. For more information on theservice, 3G network availability, and feesassociated with using this service, contactyour service provider.

To use video sharing, make sure:

• You have the correct person-to-person settings defined, and you haveaccepted a video sharing invitation, orare in an active call

• You have an active 3G connection andremain within 3G network coverage.If you move outside the 3G networkduring a video sharing session, thesharing stops, but your voice callcontinues.

• Both the sender and recipient areregistered to the 3G network. If youinvite someone to a sharing sessionand the recipient’s device is notwithin 3G network coverage, does nothave video sharing installed, orperson-to-person connections set up,the recipient does not receiveinvitations. You receive an errormessage that indicates that therecipient cannot accept the invitation.

Share live video or video clipsDuring an active voice call, selectOptions > Share video.

1 To share live video during the call,select Live video.To share a video clip, select Video clipand the clip you want to share.Your device checks if the video clipneeds to be converted. If needed, thevideo clip is automatically converted.

2 If the recipient has several SIPaddresses or phone numbersincluding the country code saved inthe contacts list, select the desiredaddress or number. If the SIP addressor phone number of the recipient isnot available, enter the address ornumber of the recipient including the

country code, and select OK to sendthe invitation. Your device sends theinvitation to the SIP address.Sharing begins automatically whenthe recipient accepts the invitation.

Options during video sharing

Zoom the video(available for senderonly).Adjust the brightness(available for senderonly).

Mute or unmute themicrophone.

Turn the loudspeaker onand off.

Pause and resume videosharing.Switch to full screenmode (available forreceiver only).

3 To stop sharing video, select Stop. Toend the voice call, press the end key.When you end the call, video sharingalso ends.

To save the live video you shared, selectYes when prompted. The device notifiesyou of the memory location of the savedvideo. To define the preferred memorylocation, select > Settings andConnection > Video sharing >Preferred saving memory.

If you access other applications while youare sharing a video clip, the sharing ispaused. To return to the video sharingview, and to continue sharing, in thestandby mode , select Options > Resumevideo sharing.

Make a conference call1 To make a conference call (network

service), enter a participant's phonenumber, and press the call key.

2 When the participant answers, selectOptions > New call.

3 When you have made a phone call toall the participants, select Options >Conference to merge the calls into aconference call.

To mute the microphone of your deviceduring the call, select Options > Mute.

To drop a participant from the conferencecall, select Options > Conference >Drop participant and the participant.

To discuss privately with a conference callparticipant, select Options >Conference > Private and theparticipant.

Speed diallingSelect > Settings and Phone > Call >Speed dialling.

Speed dialling allows you to make a call bypressing and holding a number key in thestandby mode.

To activate speed dialling, select On.

To assign a number key to a phonenumber, select > Settings > Speeddial.

Scroll to the number key (2 - 9) on thedisplay, and select Options > Assign.

Select the desired number from thecontacts list.

To delete the phone number assigned toa number key, scroll to the speed diallingkey, and select Options > Remove.

To modify a phone number assigned to anumber key, scroll to the speed diallingkey, and select Options > Change.

Voice diallingMake a phone call by saying the name thatis saved in the contacts list.

Note: Using voice tags may bedifficult in a noisy environment or duringan emergency, so you should not relysolely upon voice dialling in allcircumstances.

You can bar the calls that can be made orreceived with the device (networkservice). To modify the settings, you needthe barring password from your serviceprovider. Call barring affects all call types.

Select from the following voice callbarring settings:Outgoing calls — Prevent making voicecalls with your device.Incoming calls — Prevent incoming calls.International calls — Prevent calling toforeign countries or regions.Incoming calls when roaming — Prevent incoming calls when outsideyour home country.International calls except to homecountry — Prevent calls to foreigncountries or regions, but allow calls toyour home country.

To check the status of voice call barrings,select the barring option and Options >Check status.

To deactivate all voice call barrings, selecta barring option and Options >Deactivate all barrings.

To change the password used for barringvoice and fax calls, select Options > Editbarring password. Enter the currentcode, then the new code twice. Thebarring password must be four digitslong. For details, contact your serviceprovider.

Fixed diallingWith the fixed dialling service, you canrestrict calls from your device to certainphone numbers. Not all SIM cards supportthe fixed dialling service. For moreinformation, contact your serviceprovider.

Select > Contacts and Options > SIMnumbers > Fixed dial contacts.

When security features that restrict callsare in use (such as call barring, closed usergroup, and fixed dialling), calls may bepossible to the official emergency numberprogrammed into your device. Call barringand call diverting cannot be active at thesame time.

You need your PIN2 code to activate anddeactivate fixed dialling or edit your fixeddialling contacts. Contact your serviceprovider for your PIN2 code.

Select Options and from the following:Activate fixed dialling or Deactivatefixed dialling — Activate or deactivatefixed dialling.

Select the type of calls to divert and fromthe following:All voice calls or All fax calls — Divert allincoming voice or fax calls. You cannotanswer the calls, only divert the calls toanother number.If busy — Divert incoming calls if youhave an active call.If not answered — Divert incoming callsafter your device rings for a specifiedlength of time. Select the length of timefor the device to ring before diverting thecall.If out of reach — Divert calls when thedevice is switched off or out of networkcoverage.If not available — Divert calls if you havean active call, do not answer, or the deviceis switched off or out of network coverage.

To divert calls to your voice mailbox, selecta call type, a diverting option,andOptions > Activate > To voicemailbox.

To divert calls to another phone number,select a call type, a diverting option, andOptions > Activate > To other number.Enter the number, or select Find toretrieve a number saved in Contacts.

To check the current diverting status,scroll to the diverting option, and selectOptions > Check status.

To stop diverting calls, scroll to thediverting option, and select Options >Deactivate.

Select which phone lineyou want to use for making calls andsending text messages. Calls on both linescan be answered irrespective of theselected line. If you select Line 2 and havenot subscribed to this network service,you are not able to make calls. When line2 is selected, is displayed in the homescreen.Line change — Prevent line selection(network service), if supported by yourSIM card. To change this setting, you needthe PIN2 code.

Network settingsSelect > Settings and Phone >Network.

To select the network mode, selectNetwork mode and Dual mode, UMTS,or GSM. In dual mode, the device switchesautomatically between networks.

Tip: Selecting UMTS enables faster datatransfer, but may increase the demand onbattery power and reduce the battery life.In regions close to both GSM and UMTSnetworks, selecting Dual mode maycause constant jumping between the twonetworks, which also increases thedemand on battery power.

To select the operator, select Operatorselection and Manual to select fromavailable networks, or Automatic to setthe device to select the networkautomatically.

To set the device to indicate when it isused in a microcellular network (MCN),select Cell info display > On.

Contacts

Stay connected with your onlinefriendsYou can synchronise the contactinformation on your device with contactsyou have on Facebook. You can also createa new Facebook account directly fromyour device.

When you allow synchronisation, you areable to view your contacts' Facebookprofile information, such as their pictureand status updates, in the Contactsapplication on your device. You are alsoinformed of how many contacts weresynchronised.

After synchronisation, the Contacts icon

is visible on your friends' profile, andyou can call and send messages also usingthe Facebook application.

Synchronising your contacts andretrieving status updates are networkservices. Roaming and data transfercharges may apply. If the socialnetworking service is not available orfunctioning correctly, you may not be ableto synchronise or retrieve status updates.

This feature may not be available incertain regions.

Link your online friends to yourcontacts listYou can link your friends' Facebookprofiles to their contact information inyour device. After this, you can see yourfriends' latest status updates in your

contacts list and contact them using theFacebook application.

Select > Applications > Facebook.

When you use the Facebook applicationfor the first time, you are prompted tosynchronise the application with Contacts,to link your Facebook friends to yourcontacts list.

To synchronise the Facebook applicationlater, in the Facebook application, selectOptions > Settings > Rematch allcontacts > Match.

phone number is sent with the call andyour device recognises it.

To define a ringing tone for a contact or acontact group, select the contact orcontact group, Options > View details >Options > Ringing tone, and a ringingtone.

To define the call text for a contact, selectthe contact and Options > Viewdetails > Options > Add text for call.Enter the call text, and select OK.

Messaging

About messagingWith Messaging (network service), youcan send and receive text, multimedia,audio, and e-mail messages. You can alsoreceive web service messages, cellbroadcast messages, and specialmessages containing data, and sendservice commands.

Select > Messaging.

The available messaging types may vary.For more information, contact yourservice provider.

Before sending or receiving messages,you may need to do the following:

• Insert a valid SIM card in the deviceand be located in the service area of acellular network.

• Verify that the network supports themessaging features you want to useand that they are activated on yourSIM card.

• Define the internet access pointsettings on the device.

• Define the e-mail account settings onthe device.

• Define the text message settings onthe device.

• Define the multimedia messagesettings on the device.

The device may recognise the SIM cardprovider and automatically configuresome of the message settings. If not, youmay need to define the settings manually;or contact your service provider toconfigure the settings.

The appearance of a picture message mayvary depending on the receiving device.

Only devices that have compatiblefeatures can receive and displaymultimedia messages. The appearance ofa message may vary depending on thereceiving device.

Write and send messagesSelect > Messaging.

Important: Exercise caution whenopening messages. Messages may containmalicious software or otherwise beharmful to your device or PC.

Before you can create a multimediamessage or write an e-mail, you musthave the correct connection settings inplace.

The wireless network may limit the size ofMMS messages. If the inserted pictureexceeds this limit, the device may make itsmaller so that it can be sent by MMS.

Check the size limit of e-mail messageswith your service provider. If you attemptto send an e-mail message that exceedsthe size limit of the e-mail server, themessage is left in the Outbox folder, andthe device attempts to resend itperiodically. Sending an e-mail requires adata connection, and continuousattempts to resend the e-mail mayincrease your data transfer costs. In theOutbox folder, you can delete such amessage, or move it to the Drafts folder.

2 To send a text or multimedia message(MMS), select Message. To send amultimedia message that includesone sound clip, select Audiomessage. To send an e-mail, select E-mail.

3 In the To field, press the scroll key toselect recipients or groups from thecontacts list, or enter the recipient’sphone number or e-mail address. Toinsert a semicolon (;) that separatesthe recipients, press *. You can alsocopy and paste the number or addressfrom the clipboard.

4 In the subject field, enter the subjectof the message for a multimedia or ane-mail message. To hide or displayfields when writing a text ormultimedia message, selectOptions > Message header fields.

5 In the message field, write themessage. To add a template or noteto a text or multimedia message,select Options > Insert content >Insert text > Template or Note. Toadd a template to an e-mail message,select Options > Insert template.

6 To add a media file to a multimediamessage, select Options > Insertcontent, the file type or source, andthe desired file. To add a businesscard, slide, note, or other file to themessage, select Options > Insertcontent > Insert other.

7 To capture an image or record a videoor sound clip for a multimediamessage, select Options > Insertcontent > Insert image > New,Insert video clip > New, or Insertsound clip > New.

8 To add an attachment to an e-mail,select Options > Add attachment,the memory, and the file to attach. indicates an e-mail attachment.

9 To send the message, selectOptions > Send, or press the call key.

The available options may vary.

Note: The message sent icon ortext on your device screen does notindicate that the message is received atthe intended destination.

Your device supports text messagesbeyond the limit for a single message.Longer messages are sent as two or moremessages. Your service provider maycharge accordingly. Characters withaccents, other marks, or some languageoptions take more space, and limit thenumber of characters that can be sent ina single message.

You may not be able to send video clipsthat are saved in the MP4 file format orthat exceed the size limit of the wirelessnetwork in a multimedia message.

E-mailSet up your e-mailWith the Nokia e-mail wizard, you can setup your corporate e-mail account, such asMicrosoft Outlook, Mail for Exchange, orIntellisync, and your internet e-mailaccount.

When setting up your corporate e-mail,you may be prompted for the name of theserver associated with your e-mailaddress. Ask your company IT departmentfor details.

2 Enter your e-mail address andpassword. If the wizard is not able toconfigure your e-mail settingsautomatically, you need to select youre-mail account type and enter therelated account settings.

If your device contains any additional e-mail clients, those are offered to you whenyou start the e-mail wizard.

Send e-mailSelect > Messaging.

1 Select your mailbox and Options >Create email.

2 In the To field, enter the recipient's e-mail address. If the recipient's e-mailaddress can be found in Contacts, startentering the recipient's name, andselect the recipient from the proposedmatches. If you add several recipients,insert ; to separate the e-mailaddresses. Use the Cc field to send acopy to other recipients, or the Bccfield to send a blind copy to recipients.If the Bcc field is not visible, selectOptions > More > Show Bcc field.

3 In the Subject field, enter the subjectof the e-mail.

4 Enter your message in the text area.5 Select Options and from the

following:

Add attachment — Add anattachment to the message.Priority — Set the priority of themessage.

Flag — Flag the message for follow-up.Insert template — Insert text froma template.Add recipient — Add recipients tothe message from Contacts.Editing options — Cut, copy, or pastethe selected text.Input options — Activate ordeactivate predictive text input, orselect the writing language.

6 Select Options > Send.


Add attachmentsSelect > Messaging.

To write an e-mail message, select yourmailbox and Options > Create email.

To add an attachment to the e-mailmessage, select Options > Addattachment.

To remove the selected attachment, selectOptions > Remove attachment.

To read a received e-mail message, selectthe mailbox, and select the message fromthe list.

To reply to the message sender, selectOptions > Reply. To reply to the senderand all other recipients, select Options >Reply to all.

To forward the message, select Options >Forward.

Download attachmentsSelect > Messaging and a mailbox.

To view the attachments in a received e-mail message, scroll to the attachmentfield, and select Options > Actions. Ifthere is one attachment in the message,select Open to open the attachment. Ifthere are several attachments, selectView list to see a list showing whichattachments have been downloaded.

To download the selected attachment orall the attachments from the list to yourdevice, select Options > Actions >Download or Download all. Theattachments are not saved in your device,and are deleted when you delete themessage.

To save the selected attachment or all thedownloaded attachments in your device,select Options > Actions > Save or Saveall.

To open the selected, downloadedattachment, select Options > Actions >Open.

Reply to a meeting requestSelect > Messaging and a mailbox.

You can reply to meeting requests only ifyou have activated calendar datasynchronisation.

Connectivity

Connect your computer to webYou can use your device to connect yourPC to the web.

1 Connect the data cable to the USBconnectors of your device and your PC.

2 Select Connect PC to web. Thenecessary software is automaticallyinstalled from your device to the PC.

3 Accept the installation in your PC.Accept also the connection, ifprompted. When the connection tothe web is established, the webbrowser of your PC opens.

You must have administrator rights toyour PC, and the autorun option enabledin the PC.

Transfer content from another deviceSelect > Settings > Switch.

With the Switch application, you cantransfer content, such as contacts,between two compatible Nokia devices.

The type of content that can betransferred depends on the model of thedevice from which you want to transfercontent. If the other device supportssynchronisation, you can also synchronisedata between the other device and yourdevice. Your device notifies you if theother device is not compatible.

If the other device cannot be switched onwithout a SIM card, you can insert your SIMcard in it. When your device is switched onwithout a SIM card, the offline profile isautomatically activated.

The other device must support Bluetoothconnectivity.

Transfer contentTo retrieve data from your other device forthe first time:

1 Activate Bluetooth connectivity inboth devices.

2 Select the device from which you wantto transfer content. You are asked toenter a code on your device. Enter acode (1-16 digits), and select OK. Enterthe same code on the other device,and select OK. The devices are nowpaired.For some device models, the Switchapplication is sent to the other deviceas a message. To install the Switchapplication on the other device, openthe message, and follow theinstructions.

3 From your device, select the contentyou want to transfer from the otherdevice.

Content is transferred from the memory ofthe other device to the correspondinglocation in your device.

Transfer time depends on the amount ofdata to be transferred. You can cancel thetransfer and continue later.

The synchronisation is two-way, and thedata in both devices is the same. If an itemis deleted from either device, it is deleted

from the other device whensynchronising; you cannot restore deleteditems by synchronising.

To view the log of the last transfer, selecta shortcut in the main view andOptions > View log.

BluetoothAbout BluetoothBluetooth technology in your deviceenables wireless connections betweenelectronic devices within a range of 10metres (33 feet). A Bluetooth connectioncan be used to send images, videos, text,business cards, calendar notes, or toconnect wirelessly to devices that useBluetooth technology.

Since devices using Bluetooth technologycommunicate using radio waves, yourdevice and the other devices do not needto be in direct line-of-sight. The twodevices only need to be within amaximum of 10 metres of each other,although the connection can be subject tointerference from obstructions such aswalls or other electronic devices.

Several Bluetooth connections can beactive at a time. For example, if yourdevice is connected to a headset, you canalso transfer files to another compatibledevice at the same time.

This device is compliant with BluetoothSpecification 2.1 + EDR supporting thefollowing profiles: Advanced AudioDistribution, Audio/Video Remote Control,Basic Imaging, Basic Printing, Device ID,Dial-up Networking, File Transfer, GenericAudio/Video Distribution, Generic Access,

Features using Bluetooth technologyincrease the demand on battery powerand reduce the battery life.

Security tipsOperating the device in hidden mode is asafer way to avoid malicious software. Donot accept Bluetooth connectivity fromsources you do not trust. Alternatively,switch off the Bluetooth function. Thisdoes not affect other functions of thedevice.

Select > Settings > Connectivity >Bluetooth.

When you are not using Bluetoothconnectivity, select Bluetooth > Off orMy phone's visibility > Hidden.

Do not pair with an unknown device.

Send and receive data with BluetoothSelect > Settings > Connectivity >Bluetooth.

1 When you activate Bluetoothconnectivity for the first time, you areasked to name your device. Give yourdevice a unique name to make it easyto recognise if there are severalBluetooth devices nearby.

Shown to all or Define period. If youselect Define period, you need todefine the time during which yourdevice is visible to others. Your deviceand the name you entered can now beseen by other users with devices usingBluetooth technology.

5 Select the item and Options >Send > Via Bluetooth. The devicesearches for other devices usingBluetooth technology within rangeand lists them.

Tip: If you have sent data usingBluetooth connectivity before, a list ofthe previous search results isdisplayed. To search for moreBluetooth devices, select Moredevices.

6 Select the device with which you wantto connect. If the other devicerequires pairing before data can betransmitted, you are asked to enter apasscode.

When the connection has beenestablished, Sending data is displayed.

The Sent folder in the Messagingapplication does not store messages sentusing Bluetooth connectivity.

To receive data using Bluetoothconnectivity, select Bluetooth > On andMy phone's visibility > Shown to all toreceive data from a non-paired device orHidden to receive data from a paireddevice only. When you receive data

through Bluetooth connectivity,depending on the settings of an activeprofile, a tone sounds, and you are askedif you want to accept the message inwhich the data is included. If you accept,the message is placed in the Inbox folderin the Messaging application.

Tip: You can access the files in the deviceor on the memory card using a compatibleaccessory that supports the File TransferProfile Client service (for example, alaptop computer).

A Bluetooth connection is disconnectedautomatically after sending or receivingdata. Only Nokia Ovi Suite and someaccessories such as headsets maymaintain a connection even if not activelyused.

Pair devicesSelect > Settings > Connectivity >Bluetooth.

Open the paired devices tab.

Before pairing, decide on your ownpasscode (1-16 digits), and agree with theuser of the other device to use the samecode. Devices that do not have a userinterface have a fixed passcode. You needthe passcode only when you connect thedevices for the first time. After pairing, itis possible to authorise the connection.Pairing and authorising the connectionmakes connecting quicker and easier, asyou do not have to accept the connectionbetween paired devices every time youestablish a connection.

The passcode for remote SIM access musthave 16 digits.

In remote SIM mode you can use yourdevice's SIM card with compatibleaccessories.

When the wireless device is in the remoteSIM mode, you can only use a compatibleconnected accessory, such as a car kit, tomake or receive calls.

Your wireless device will not make anycalls, except to the emergency numbersprogrammed into your device, while inthis mode.

To make calls, you must first leave theremote SIM mode. If the device has beenlocked, enter the lock code to unlock itfirst.

1 Select Options > New paireddevice. The device starts to search forBluetooth devices within range. If youhave sent data using Bluetoothconnectivity before, a list of theprevious search results is displayed.To search for more Bluetooth devices,select More devices.

2 Select the device with which you wantto pair, and enter the passcode. Thesame passcode must be entered in theother device as well.

3 To make the connection betweenyour device and the other deviceautomatic, select Yes. To confirm theconnection manually every time aconnection attempt is made, selectNo. After pairing, the device is savedto the paired devices page.

To give a nickname to the paired device,select Options > Assign short name. Thenickname is displayed in your device.

To delete a pairing, select the devicewhose pairing you want to delete andOptions > Delete. To delete all pairings,select Options > Delete all. If you arecurrently connected to a device and cancelthe pairing with that device, pairing isremoved immediately, and theconnection is ended.

To allow a paired device to connectautomatically to your device, select Set asauthorised. Connections between yourdevice and the other device can be madewithout your knowledge. No separateacceptance or authorisation is needed.Use this status only for your own devices,such as your compatible headset orcomputer, or devices that belong tosomeone you trust. If you want to acceptconnection requests from the other deviceseparately every time, select Set asunauthorised.

To use a Bluetooth audio accessory, suchas a Bluetooth handsfree or headset, youneed to pair your device with theaccessory. For the passcode and furtherinstructions, see the accessory user guide.To connect to the audio accessory, switchon the accessory. Some audio accessoriesconnect automatically to your device.Otherwise, open the paired devices tab,and select the accessory and Options >Connect to audio device.

2 When the device asks which mode touse, select Mass storage. In thismode, you can see your device as aremovable hard drive in the PC.

3 Transfer the desired data between thePC and your device.

4 End the connection from the PC (forexample, from an Unplug or EjectHardware wizard in Windows) toavoid damaging the memory card.

To modify the USB mode settings, select > Settings > Connectivity > USB.

To change the USB mode you normally usewith the data cable, select USBconnection mode.

To set the device to ask which mode to useeach time you connect the USB data cableto the device, select Ask on connection >Yes.

To use Nokia PC Suite with your device,install Nokia PC Suite on your PC, connectthe USB data cable, and select PC Suite.

SynchronisationWith the Sync application, you cansynchronise your notes, messages,contacts, and other information with aremote server.

Delete cookiesSelect Options > Clear privacy data >Cookies. Cookies contain informationcollected about your visits to web pages.

Connection securityIf the security indicator ( ) is displayedduring a connection, the datatransmission between the device and theinternet gateway or server is encrypted.

The security icon does not indicate thatthe data transmission between thegateway and the content server (wherethe data is stored) is secure. The serviceprovider secures the data transmission

between the gateway and the contentserver.

Security certificates may be required forsome services, such as banking services.You are notified if the identity of theserver is not authentic or if you do nothave the correct security certificate inyour device. For more information,contact your service provider.

Important: Even if the use ofcertificates makes the risks involved inremote connections and softwareinstallation considerably smaller, theymust be used correctly in order to benefitfrom increased security. The existence ofa certificate does not offer any protectionby itself; the certificate manager mustcontain correct, authentic, or trustedcertificates for increased security to beavailable. Certificates have a restrictedlifetime. If "Expired certificate" or"Certificate not valid yet" is shown, even ifthe certificate should be valid, check thatthe current date and time in your deviceare correct.

Before changing any certificate settings,you must make sure that you really trustthe owner of the certificate and that thecertificate really belongs to the listedowner.

These applications require a GPSconnection.

About GPSThe Global Positioning System (GPS) isoperated by the government of the UnitedStates, which is solely responsible for itsaccuracy and maintenance. The accuracyof location data can be affected byadjustments to GPS satellites made by theUnited States government and is subjectto change with the United StatesDepartment of Defense civil GPS policy andthe Federal Radionavigation Plan.Accuracy can also be affected by poorsatellite geometry. Availability andquality of GPS signals may be affected byyour location, buildings, naturalobstacles, and weather conditions. GPSsignals may not be available insidebuildings or underground and may beimpaired by materials such as concreteand metal.

GPS should not be used for preciselocation measurement, and you shouldnever rely solely on location data from theGPS receiver and cellular radio networksfor positioning or navigation.

The trip meter has limited accuracy, androunding errors may occur. Accuracy canalso be affected by availability and qualityof GPS signals.

The coordinates in the GPS are expressedusing the international WGS-84coordinate system. The availability of thecoordinates may vary by region.

Assisted GPS (A-GPS)Your device also supports assisted GPS (A-GPS).

A-GPS requires network support.

Assisted GPS (A-GPS) is used to retrieveassistance data over a packet dataconnection, which assists in calculatingthe coordinates of your current locationwhen your device is receiving signals fromsatellites.

When you activate A-GPS, your devicereceives useful satellite information froman assistance data server over the cellularnetwork. With the help of assisted data,your device can obtain the GPS positionfaster.

Your device is preconfigured to use theNokia A-GPS service, if no service provider-specific A-GPS settings are available. Theassistance data is retrieved from the NokiaA-GPS service server only when needed.

To disable the A-GPS service, select >Applications > GPS data and Options >Positioning settings > Positioningmethods > Assisted GPS > Options >Disable.

You must have an internet access pointdefined in the device to retrieveassistance data from the Nokia A-GPSservice over a packet data connection. Theaccess point for A-GPS can be defined inpositioning settings. Only a packet datainternet access point can be used. Yourdevice asks you to select the internetaccess point when GPS is used for the firsttime.

GPS dataRoute guidanceSelect > Applications > GPS dataand Navigation.

Start the route guidance outdoors. Ifstarted indoors, the GPS receiver may notreceive the necessary information fromthe satellites.

Route guidance uses a rotating compasson the device display. A red ball shows the

direction to the destination, and theapproximate distance to it is shown insidethe compass ring.

Route guidance is designed to show thestraightest route and the shortestdistance to the destination, measured ina straight line. Any obstacles on the route,such as buildings and natural obstacles,are ignored. Differences in altitude are nottaken into account when calculating thedistance. Route guidance is active onlywhen you move.

To set your trip destination, selectOptions > Set destination and alandmark as the destination, or enter thelatitude and longitude coordinates.

To clear the destination set for your trip,select Stop navigation.

Trip meterSelect > Applications > GPS dataand Trip distance.


To turn trip distance calculation on or off,select Options > Start or Stop. Thecalculated values remain on the display.Use this feature outdoors to receive abetter GPS signal.

To access Ovi Music, you must have a validinternet access point in the device. Youmay be asked to select the access point touse when connecting to Ovi Music.

Say and PlayWith Say and Play, you can start playingthe music you wish by saying, forexample, the artist's name.

To start the Say and Play application,select > Applications > Musicsearch. When the tone sounds, say anartist's name, album title, playlist title, oran artist's name and song title. Hold thedevice about 20 cm (8 inches) from yourmouth, and speak in a regular tone. Do notcover the device microphone with yourhand.

When you use Say and Play for the firsttime, and after you have downloaded newsongs to your device, to update voicecommands, select Options > Refreshlibrary.

The voice commands are based on themetadata (artist's name and song title) ofthe songs in your device. Say and Playsupports two spoken languages: Englishand the language you have chosen as thedevice language. The written language ofthe song metadata must match eitherEnglish or your chosen device language.

Tip: To improve search accuracy, use thevoice commands for dialling. The dialler

adapts to your voice and uses it also formusic search.

Create a playlistSelect > Applications > Musicplayer.

in the order you want them to play.

Capture an imageSelect > Camera.

When capturing an image, note thefollowing:

• Use both hands to keep the camerasteady.

• The quality of a digitally zoomedimage is lower than that of a non-zoomed image.

• The camera goes into battery savingmode after about a minute ofinactivity.

• Keep a safe distance when using theflash. Do not use the flash on peopleor animals at close range. Do not coverthe flash while taking a picture.

CalendarAbout CalendarSelect > Calendar.

With calendar, you can create and viewscheduled events and appointments, andswitch between different calendar views.

In the month view, calendar entries aremarked with a triangle. Anniversaryentries are also marked with anexclamation mark. The entries of theselected day are displayed as a list.

To open calendar entries, select a calendarview and an entry.

Whenever you see the icon, scroll rightto access a list of available actions. Toclose the list, scroll left.

Create calendar entriesSelect > Calendar.

You can create the following types ofcalendar entries:

• Meeting entries remind you of eventsthat have a specific date and time.

• Meeting requests are invitations thatyou can send to the participants.Before you can create meetingrequests you must have a compatiblemailbox configured to your device.

• Memo entries are related to the wholeday but not to a specific time of theday.

• Anniversary entries remind you ofbirthdays and special dates. They

refer to a certain day but not a specifictime of the day. Anniversary entriesare repeated every year.

• To-do entries remind you of a taskthat has a due date but not a specifictime of the day.

To create a calendar entry, select a date,Options > New entry, and the entry type.

To set the priority for meeting entries,select Options > Priority.

To define how the entry is handled duringsynchronisation, select Private to hidethe entry from viewers if the calendar isavailable online, Public to make the entryvisible to viewers, or None to not copy theentry to your computer.

To send the entry to a compatible device,select Options > Send.

To make a meeting request of a meetingentry, select Options > Addparticipants.

Create meeting requestsSelect > Calendar.

Before you can create meeting requests,you must have a compatible mailboxconfigured for your device.

To turn off the sounding alarm, selectStop. To stop the alarm for a certain timeperiod, select Snooze.If your device is switched off when analarm is due, your device switches itself onand starts sounding the alarm tone.

Tip: To define the time period after whichthe alarm sounds again when you set it tosnooze, select Options > Settings >Alarm snooze time.

This calculator has limited accuracy and isdesigned for simple calculations.

To make a calculation, enter the firstnumber of the calculation. Select afunction such as add or subtract from thefunction map. Enter the second number ofthe calculation, and select =. Thecalculator performs operations in theorder they are entered. The result of thecalculation remains in the editor field andcan be used as the first number of a newcalculation.

The device saves the result of the lastcalculation in its memory. Exiting theCalculator application or switching off thedevice does not clear the memory. Torecall the last saved result the next time

you open the Calculator application, selectOptions > Last result.

To save the numbers or results of acalculation, select Options > Memory >Save.

To retrieve the results of a calculationfrom the memory and use them in acalculation, select Options > Memory >Recall.

Select > Applications >Office > Active notes.

Active notes allows you to create notesthat contain images and sound or videoclips. You can also link a note to a contact.The note is displayed during a call with thecontact.

Application settingsSelect > Settings and Applications.

Select an application from the list toadjust its settings.

Device and SIM card securitySelect > Settings > Settings >General > Security.

To change the PIN code, select Phone andSIM card > PIN code. The new code mustbe 4 to 8 digits long. The PIN code protectsyour SIM card against unauthorised useand is provided with the SIM card. Afterthree consecutive incorrect PIN codeentries, the code is blocked, and you needto use the PUK code to unblock it beforeyou can use the SIM card again.

To set the keypad to lock automaticallyafter a defined period, select Phone andSIM card > Keypad autolock period.

To set a time-out period after which thedevice is automatically locked and can beused only if the correct lock code isentered, select Phone and SIM card >Phone autolock period. Enter the lengthof the time-out period in minutes, orselect None to deactiveate the autolockfeature. When the device is locked, youcan still answer incoming calls, and callsmay still be possible to the officialemergency number programmed intoyour device.

To change the lock code, select Phoneand SIM card > Lock code. The defaultlock code is 12345. Enter the current codeand then the new code twice. The new

code must be 4-255 characters long.Alphanumeric (uppercase and lowercase)characters can be used. The device notifiesyou if the lock code is not properlyformatted.

Common accessory settingsSelect > Settings and General >Enhancement.

With most accessories, you can do thefollowing:

To define which profile is activated whenyou attach an accessory to your device,select the accessory and Default profile.

To set the device to answer phone callsautomatically after 5 seconds when anaccessory is attached, select Automaticanswer > On. If the ringing type is set toBeep once or Silent in the selectedprofile, automatic answering is disabled.

To illuminate the device while it isattached to an accessory, select Lights >On.

The available options may vary dependingon the accessory.

Restore original settings

To restore the original device settings,select > Settings and General >Factory settings. To do this, you needyour device lock code. After resetting, thedevice may take a longer time to switchon. Documents, contact information,calendar entries, and files are unaffected.

Install applicationsSelect > Applications >Installations > App. mgr..

You can transfer installation files to yourdevice from a compatible computer,download them during browsing, orreceive them in a multimedia message, asan e-mail attachment, or using otherconnectivity methods, such as Bluetoothconnectivity. You can use NokiaApplication Installer in Nokia Ovi Suite toinstall an application to your device.

Before installation, note the following:

To display the security certificatedetails of the application, selectDetails: > Certificates: > Viewdetails.

• If you install a file that contains anupdate or repair to an existing

application, you can only restore theoriginal application if you have theoriginal installation file or a fullbackup copy of the removed softwarepackage. To restore the originalapplication, remove the application,and install the application again fromthe original installation file or thebackup copy.

The JAR file is required for installingJava applications. If it is missing, thedevice may ask you to download it. Ifthere is no access point defined forthe application, you are asked toselect one. When you aredownloading the JAR file, you mayneed to enter a user name andpassword to access the server. Youobtain these from the supplier ormanufacturer of the application.

To install software or an application, dothe following:

1 To locate an installation file, select > Applications >

Installations > App. mgr..Alternatively, search for installationfiles using File manager, or selectMessaging > Inbox, and open amessage that contains an installationfile.

2 In Application manager, selectOptions > Install. In otherapplications, select the installationfile to start the installation.During installation, the devicedisplays information about theprogress of the installation. If youinstall an application without a digitalsignature or certification, the device

displays a warning. Continueinstallation only if you are sure of theorigin and contents of the application.

To start an installed application, locatethe application in the menu, and select theapplication.

To see which software packages areinstalled or removed and when, selectOptions > View log.

Important: Your device can onlysupport one antivirus application. Havingmore than one application with antivirusfunctionality could affect performanceand operation or cause the device to stopfunctioning.

After you install applications to acompatible memory card, installation files(.sis, .sisx) remain in the device memory.The files may use large amounts ofmemory and prevent you from storingother files. To maintain sufficientmemory, use Nokia Ovi Suite to back upinstallation files to a compatible PC, thenuse the file manager to remove theinstallation files from the device memory.If the .sis file is a message attachment,delete the message from the Messaginginbox.

With Device manager, you can managesettings, data, and software on yourdevice remotely.

You can connect to a server, and receiveconfiguration settings for your device. Youmay receive server profiles and differentconfiguration settings from your serviceproviders or company informationmanagement department. Configurationsettings may include connection andother settings used by differentapplications in your device. The availableoptions may vary.

The remote configuration connection isusually started by the server when thedevice settings need to be updated.

To create a new server profile, selectOptions > Server profiles > Options >New server profile.

You may receive these settings from yourservice provider in a configurationmessage. If not, define the following:Server name — Enter a name for theconfiguration server.

Server ID — Enter the unique ID toidentify the configuration server.Server password — Enter a password toidentify your device to the server.Access point — Select the access point touse for the connection, or create a newaccess point. You can also choose to beasked for the access point every time youstart a connection. This setting is availableonly if you have selected Internet as thebearer type.Host address — Enter the web addressof the configuration server.Port — Enter the port number of theserver.User name and Password — Enter youruser ID and password for theconfiguration server.Allow configuration — Select Yes toallow the server to initiate a configurationsession.Auto-accept all requests — Select Yes ifyou do not want the server to ask for yourconfirmation when it initiates aconfiguration session.Network authentication — Selectwhether to use http authentication.Network user name and Networkpassword — Enter your user ID andpassword for the http authentication. Thissetting is available only if you haveselected Network authentication to beused.

To connect to the server and receiveconfiguration settings for your device,select Options > Start configuration.

To view the configuration log of theselected profile, select Options > Viewlog.

To update the device software over theair, select Options > Check for updates.The update does not erase your settings.When you receive the update package onyour device, follow the instructions on thedisplay. Your device is restarted once theinstallation is complete.

Downloading software updates mayinvolve the transmission of large amountsof data (network service).

Make sure that the device battery hasenough power, or connect the chargerbefore starting the update.

Warning:If you install a software update, youcannot use the device, even to makeemergency calls, until the installation iscompleted and the device is restarted.

Protected contentDigital rights management (DRM)protected content, for example somemedia files, such as images, music, orvideo clips, comes with an associatedlicence that defines your rights to use thecontent.

You can view the details and status of thelicences, and reactivate and removelicences.

Manage digital rights licencesSelect > Applications > Licences.

Digital rights management

Content owners may use different types ofdigital rights management (DRM)technologies to protect their intellectualproperty, including copyrights. Thisdevice uses various types of DRM softwareto access DRM-protected content. Withthis device you can access contentprotected with WMDRM 10, and OMA DRM1.0 and 2.0. If certain DRM software failsto protect the content, content ownersmay ask that such DRM software's abilityto access new DRM-protected content berevoked. Revocation may also preventrenewal of such DRM-protected contentalready in your device. Revocation of suchDRM software does not affect the use ofcontent protected with other types of DRMor the use of non-DRM-protected content.

Digital rights management (DRM)protected content comes with anassociated licence that defines your rightsto use the content.

If your device has OMA DRM-protectedcontent, to back up both the licence andthe content, use the backup feature ofNokia Ovi Suite.

Other transfer methods may not transferthe licence which need to be restored withthe content for you to be able to continuethe use of OMA DRM-protected contentafter the device memory is formatted. Youmay also need to restore the licence incase the files on your device get corrupted.

If your device has WMDRM-protectedcontent, both the licence and the contentwill be lost if the device memory isformatted. You may also lose the licenceand the content if the files on your deviceget corrupted. Losing the licence or thecontent may limit your ability to use thesame content on your device again. Formore information, contact your serviceprovider.

Some licence may be connected to aspecific SIM card, and the protectedcontent can be accessed only if the SIMcard is inserted in the device.

Update device software andapplications using your device

You can check if there are updatesavailable for your device software or forindividual applications, and thendownload and install them to your device(network service). You can also set yourdevice to automatically check for updatesand notify you when important orrecommended updates are available.

Prolong battery lifeMany features in your device increase thedemand on battery power and reduce thebattery lifetime. To save battery power,note the following:

• Features that use Bluetoothtechnology, or allowing such featuresto run in the background while usingother features, increase the demandon battery power. DeactivateBluetooth technology when you donot need it.

• If you have set Packet dataconnection to When available inconnection settings, and there is nopacket data coverage (GPRS), thedevice periodically tries to establish apacket data connection. To prolongthe operating time of your device,select > Settings andConnection > Packet data > Packetdata connection > When needed.

• The Maps application downloads newmap information when you scroll tonew areas on the map, whichincreases the demand on batterypower. You can prevent the automaticdownload of new maps.

• If the signal strength of the cellularnetwork varies much in your area,your device must scan for theavailable network repeatedly. Thisincreases the demand on batterypower.

If the network mode is set to dualmode in the network settings, thedevice searches for the 3G network.You can set the device to use only theGSM network. To use only the GSMnetwork, select > Settings andPhone > Network > Networkmode > GSM.

• The backlight of the display increasesthe demand on battery power. In thedisplay settings, you can change the

length of the time-out period afterwhich the backlight is switched off.Select > Settings and General >Personalisation > Display > Lighttime-out.

• Leaving applications running in thebackground increases the demand onbattery power. To close theapplications you are not using, pressand hold the menu key, scroll to theapplication, and press C.

• To save power, activate the powersave mode. Press the power key, andselect Activate power saving. Todeactivate it, press the power key, andselect Deactivate power saving. Youmay not be able to change thesettings of certain applications whenthe power save mode is activated.

Product and safety information

BatteryBattery and charger informationYour device is powered by a rechargeable battery. The batteryintended for use with this device is BL-5CT. Nokia may makeadditional battery models available for this device. Thisdevice is intended for use when supplied with power fromthe following chargers: AC-8, AC-15. The exact charger modelnumber may vary depending on the type of plug. The plugvariant is identified by one of the following: E, X, AR, U, A, C,K, or B.

The battery can be charged and discharged hundreds oftimes, but it will eventually wear out. When the talk andstandby times are noticeably shorter than normal, replace thebattery. Use only Nokia approved batteries, and rechargeyour battery only with Nokia approved chargers designatedfor this device.

If a battery is being used for the first time or if the battery hasnot been used for a prolonged period, it may be necessary toconnect the charger, then disconnect and reconnect it tobegin charging the battery. If the battery is completelydischarged, it may take several minutes before the chargingindicator appears on the display or before any calls can bemade.

Safe removal. Always switch the device off and disconnect thecharger before removing the battery.

Proper charging. Unplug the charger from the electrical plugand the device when not in use. Do not leave a fully chargedbattery connected to a charger, since overcharging mayshorten its lifetime. If left unused, a fully charged battery willlose its charge over time.

Avoid extreme temperatures. Always try to keep the batterybetween 15°C and 25°C (59°F and 77°F). Extreme

temperatures reduce the capacity and lifetime of the battery.A device with a hot or cold battery may not work temporarily.Battery performance is particularly limited in temperatureswell below freezing.

Do not short-circuit. Accidental short-circuiting can occurwhen a metallic object such as a coin, clip, or pen causes directconnection of the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals ofthe battery. (These look like metal strips on the battery.) Thismight happen, for example, when you carry a spare batteryin your pocket or purse. Short-circuiting the terminals maydamage the battery or the connecting object.

Disposal. Do not dispose of batteries in a fire as they mayexplode. Dispose of batteries according to local regulations.Please recycle when possible. Do not dispose as householdwaste.

Leak. Do not dismantle, cut, open, crush, bend, puncture, orshred cells or batteries. In the event of a battery leak, preventbattery liquid contact with skin or eyes. If this happens, flushthe affected areas immediately with water, or seek medicalhelp.

Damage. Do not modify, remanufacture, attempt to insertforeign objects into the battery, or immerse or expose it towater or other liquids. Batteries may explode if damaged.

Correct use. Use the battery only for its intended purpose.Improper battery use may result in a fire, explosion, or otherhazard. If the device or battery is dropped, especially on ahard surface, and you believe the battery has been damaged,take it to a service centre for inspection before continuing touse it. Never use any charger or battery that is damaged. Keepyour battery out of the reach of small children.

Battery safetyAlways switch the device off and disconnect the chargerbefore removing the battery. When you unplug a charger oran accessory, hold and pull the plug, not the cord.

When your charger is not in use, unplug it from the electricalplug and the device. Do not leave a fully charged batteryconnected to a charger, as overcharging may shorten thebattery’s lifetime. If left unused, a fully charged battery willlose its charge over time.

Take care of your deviceHandle your device, battery, charger and accessories withcare. The following suggestions help you protect yourwarranty coverage.

• Keep the device dry. Precipitation, humidity, and alltypes of liquids or moisture can contain minerals thatcorrode electronic circuits. If your device gets wet,remove the battery, and allow the device to dry.

• Do not use or store the device in dusty or dirty areas.Moving parts and electronic components can bedamaged.

• Do not store the device in high temperatures. Hightemperatures can shorten the life of the device,damage the battery, and warp or melt plastics.

Certification information (SAR)This mobile device meets guidelines for exposure toradio waves.
