Noise Surveys: What We Do
NoiseAir Ltd. has over 30 years of experience in
providing acoustic consultancy services across the UK.
We provide a bespoke, professional service tailored to
our individual clients’ needs. Whether you need a
noise survey to satisfy planning conditions, you are
installing an air conditioning unit or extraction system,
or you are applying for an extension to your entertain-
ment premises licence, NoiseAir will provide practical,
cost-effective expertise and solutions.
Road & Rail Noise Surveys
Are you planning a residential development near a road or railway that will affect the
future occupants? We can provide noise assessments to ensure you have the best
and most cost effective design solutions to achieve the Local Authorities planning
requirements.
Commercial & Industrial Noise Surveys
Noise surveys can be required due to an existing noise problem such as generators
or other industrial noise sources, causing nuisance to local residents. A survey may
also be required for a potential future noise issue, such as a proposed industrial
building development. If your development is close to a source of noise we can pro-
vide a noise assessment to support your planning application.
Office Acoustics
Is your office too noisy? Privacy can
often be an issue due to inadequate
sound proofing. Do you find that your
employees are getting distracted by
colleagues’ conversations?
Following a comprehensive workplace
assessment, NoiseAir can provide your
office with sound insulation, optimising
office noise levels, speech intelligibility
and speech privacy issues within your
workplace to improve overall workflow
and efficiency.
Entertainment & Nightclubs
NoiseAir will assist with applying for
planning permission to open a bar or
nightclub or you may have noise issues
with your existing premises. NoiseAir
also offer event noise management.
Audiology Room Testing
NoiseAir can provide expert testing on
new or existing audiology rooms and
advise the suitability of the room for
Audiology testing In accordance with
ISO 8253.
NoiseAir will provide a full report detail-
ing all test results and assessment cri-
teria in an easy to understand format.
Fast, Reliable, Practical Solutions
Residential Noise Surveys & Planning Applications
Noise surveys are required to ensure that you protect the amenity of
the occupants in your proposed development. If your development is
close to a source of noise we can provide a noise assessment to
support your planning application.
Acoustic Investigations & Noise Nuisance
Do you have a noisy neighbour? Do you have a low frequency noise
issue? Perhaps local noise pollution is disturbing your sleep. We can
provide expert advice to identify the issue and resolve the problem.
ACOUSTIC CAMERAS
What is an acousc camera?
An acoustic camera is an imaging device which is used to locate and analyse sound
sources, helping to depict tonal components amongst other sound characteristics. A
microphone array and optical camera are used to provide an acoustic visual image in
real time of the surveyed area.
Advantages of acousc cameras in pracce:
The acoustic camera essentially allows you to ‘see sound’. The highly specialised
software allows rapid acquisition of data and identification of ‘sound patterns’ allowing
the user to focus on ‘hot spots’ of intense noise radiation. The visual representation
is also useful to watch how sound changes over time, for example where there may
be moving noise sources such as vehicles or machinery.
Noise Impact Assessments
A noise impact assessment typically involves measuring the baseline
existing noise climate, determining the likely sources of noise from
the development, predicting the overall impact of the noise sources
on the sensitive receivers in the area (often a residential premises)
and providing mitigation advice where appropriate. Projects might
include:
• Industrial and commercial developments including delivery noise.
• Noise from plant located at industrial, retail or commercial sites.
• Restaurants and takeaways (A3 uses) with kitchen extract plant.
• Noise from patrons of night-clubs, restaurants and bars.
Noise at Work Assess-ments
NoiseAir can help you to comply with
the requirements set out in the Control
of Noise At Work Regulations 2005
which are enforced by the Health &
Safety Executive. The need to carry
out a noise risk assessment is now
regulatory in most places of work, both
industrial and commercial Including
factories, offices, nightclubs and bars.
Exposure to high levels of noise in the
workplace can lead to permanent hear-
ing damage for employees. This can
lead to prosecution of the employer by
the Health and Safety Executive and
potentially costly compensation claims
from the employees.
The Control of Noise at Work Regula-
tions 2005 specify criteria for noise ex-
posure, based on an employee's per-
sonal daily (or weekly) noise exposure
A risk assessment is required to as-
sess the likely exposure to noise of
employees and to compare the noise
exposure levels with the action values.
NoiseAir can help with
undertaking noise
surveys at your
premises including
assessing noise
exposure to
employees,
recommendations
for reducing noise
exposure in the work-
place and hearing
protection to
be used.
Did you know, all employers are legally obliged to pre-vent risks to employees’ health and safety from expo-sure to noise at work?

Reverberation Control and Testing
The aim of reverberation control in a space might be to improve speech intelli-
gibility, such as in the case of an office or classroom environment, or to add
warmth and character, for example, in a music performance venue.
Reverberation control is therefore important in achieving good acoustic condi-
tions for the end user. Where sound takes an excessive amount of time to de-
cay, this can cause a loss of clarity, particularly in speech, where communica-
tion is vital.
NoiseAir have extensive experience in undertaking reverberation time tests
and providing reverberation control advice in all situations. We always issue
our guidance in a clear report format which can be understood by both acousti-
cians and those operating outside the industry.
Sound Insulation Testing
(Approved Document E Testing)
Sound Insulation Testing is a method of testing a Party Floor or Party
Wall structure to determine its acoustic performance as set out within
Building Regulations Approved Document E.
When forming new attached flats or dwellings, or when converting
buildings into flats, sound insulation testing is required upon comple-
tion of building works.
NoiseAir and our associates undertake sound insulation tests
throughout the UK.
“With only the first stage of acoustic
treatment completed as advised by
NoiseAir there has been no com-
plaints. It pays to employ experts to
help with practical, cost effective solu-
tions.”
