  1. 1. At Noble Dentistry we know that prevention is far better than curing a problem before it gets out of hand, and following a daily dental hygiene routine will ensure that you have healthy teeth and gums. This means improved self-confidence and wellbeing. Failure to follow a daily dental hygiene routine can lead to bad breath, tooth decay and other dental problems which can require costly and lengthy treatment. Noble Dentistry Your Personal Dentist will take care of you
  2. 2. Dental Emergency Information If the crown falls off, make an appointment to see your dentist as soon as possible and bring the crown with you. If the tooth is causing pain, use a cotton swab to apply a little clove oil to the sensitive area (clove oil can be purchased at your local drug store or in the spice aisle of your grocery store). If possible, slip the crown back over the tooth. Before doing so, coat the inner surface with an over-the-counter dental cement, toothpaste, or denture adhesive, to help hold the crown in place. Do not use regular glue as it can be poisonous. Lost crown Extruded tooth If your tooth has been avulsed (fallen out completely) due to any trauma, you need to see your dentist as soon as possible. In the meantime, hold the tooth by the crown, careful never to touch the root and store it in a saline water cup, milk or even inside the cheek to bathe it in saliva. Using plain water or washing it under tap water is not advised. Press cotton or gauze gently over the bleeding tooth socket until you reach your dentist. Take an over-the-counter pain medication (such as Advil) if needed.
  3. 3. Teeth Whitening Dental Service Teeth whitening is the process by which your teeth are treated by a dilute acid, which significantly brightens and lightens darkened or stained teeth up to 2-6 shades lighter. You can assume that teeth whitening can drastically change the look of your smile, making your teeth pearly white as you have always desired! Both of our locations provide teeth whitening services in both Toronto and Richmond Hill.
  4. 4. Sport Mouthguard The Academy of General Dentistry recommends the use of mouth-guards for all sportsmen and athletes. Be it ice skating, basketball, soft ball, soccer, football, wrestling, rugby, baseball or even skateboarding or bicycling, a mouthguard is always advised in order to save the teeth and face from any traumatic damage during a sports accident. Your dentist can provide you with custom-made mouthguards that help to keep your teeth, gums, tongue and even your lips safe from excessive injury. The lips tend to be affected first, being forced into the teeth and suffering deep lacerations. The teeth themselves can chip, crack, break or even be knocked out entirely. Along with dental injury, the bone supporting the teeth can break as well. Jaw fractures too can arise due to sports injuries, so it is imperative that you visit your dentist and request for a sports mouthguard to be made for you, to keep your mouth safe from painful and traumatic incidences. Millions of teeth get knocked out in sports annually due to a lack of sufficient mouth guard protection. Sport mouth guards do more than protect your teeth, they prevent oral lacerations, jaw injury, tooth loss, and even reduce the amount of shock that is transferred from the jaw to the skull
  5. 5. Tooth Sensitivity Treatment Two types of tooth sensitivity are: Dentinal sensitivity, Pulpal sensitivity Dentinal sensitivity It occurs when the dentin(middle layer) of a tooth is exposed. Normally, the dentin is covered by enamel above the gumline and by cementum below the gumline. Dentin contains tiny openings called tubules. Inside each tubule lies a nerve branch that comes from the tooths pulp (the nerve center of the tooth). When the dentin is exposed, cold or hot temperature or pressure can affect these nerve branches. This causes sensitivity. Pulpal sensitivity It is a reaction of the tooths pulp. The pulp is a grouping of blood vessels and nerves in the centre of each tooth.
  6. 6. Root Decay Treatment Root decay presents itself more frequently as one ages, where gum recession and periodontal disease tend to co-exist and expose the roots of teeth. The site for root caries is most commonly found at the receded gum margin, where plaque tends to accumulate most easily and begins destructing the exposed root surface beneath. The elderly often suffer dry mouth, which further enhances the growth of a carious lesion on the root. Treating root caries involves first diagnosing the extent of caries with the help of radiographs, followed by removal of the decayed surfaces with hand instruments. The destructed root surface may then need to be re-contoured in order to retain a filling material better and to allow more efficient brushing. A filling material, preferably a Glass Ionomer Cement (possessing the unique fluoride storage ability) is used to fill the cavity under strict isolation protocols.
  7. 7. Dental Implants A dental implant is a small titanium screw that serves as an anchor for the root portion of a missing tooth. The new implant is fixed into the upper or lower jaw bone, which gives your replacement tooth the strength and stability of a natural tooth. Whether you are missing one or several teeth due to injury, disease or decay; you may be a candidate for dental implants, which can be used to replace your missing teeth. They will look, feel, and function like your natural teeth. Patients are usually concerned with their age and wonder if they are too old for dental implants, but age is not a deciding factor, overall health is. If you are healthy enough to get a tooth removed you should be able to receive dental implants. If your are considering dental implants as a solution to a missing or decayed tooth, your mouth must undergo a thorough examination and your dental history reviewed. If it is determined that your mouth is not ideal for dental implants there are other treatments that can explored to improve the outcome, such as bone grafting, may be advised.
