1. PRESIDENTS WELCOME
On behalf of the committee of Nobbys SLSC, I am pleased to welcome you to our club. Whether you are
an existing member, or a new member to our club, we hope you enjoy surf lifesaving and all it has to
offer.
Nobbys SLSC Inc. was established in 1923 and has actively patrolled our stretch of beach and
contributed to our local community, uninterrupted, to the highest standard.
Nobbys is a strong family based club, with last season having 514 members with a lot of these being from
the same families.
The junior members provide the future of our club with many of our existing active members currently
patrolling the beach coming from the “nipper” family of Nobbys.
Nobbys SLSC encourages all members of the general public to be surf wise when they visit our beach
with the high standard of Lifesavers who patrol our beach. These lifesavers are trained by our own
members of the club who have become qualified trainers within surf lifesaving.
Another highlight (as always) of our club will be the social interaction and competition to encourage
fitness and enjoyment. The club is set to host many social and friendly competitive events throughout the
season. Having fun is an essential part of being a member at Nobbys SLSC.
This Handbook along with our website and Social Media is encouraged to be used by all members
throughout the season to assist you in all avenues of lifesaving within our club.
Thank you in advance for your participation in our club whether it be patrolling, junior activities,
competition, assisting at club events or for just supporting a local club. If you see me down at the club,
please come up and say Hi.
See you on the beach!

There are many different areas you can assist Nobbys SLSC. Some areas include:
Patrols
Administration
Fundraising
Age Manager
Water safety for Junior Activities
Training

Coaching
Competing
Officiating
Committee Member
If you would like to get involved with any of these activities, please contact a committee member
relevant to the area you would like to assist with.
Surf Rescue Certificate As part of their final year in nippers, Under 14 members are required to do their Surf Rescue
Certificate by completing the training course and Assessment in first aid and life saving techniques.
This qualifies them to participate in surf patrols, and it is a mandatory requirement for competing in
Branch and State championships.
To be eligible to complete the SRC you must be a minimum of 13 years old.
Carnivals To participate in carnivals you must join the club as a competition member.
A carnival is a day of family fun where competitors and parents join in the spirit of competition,
sportsmanship and teamwork to compete against members of other SLS Clubs.
Each year the Hunter Branch endeavors to run a series of carnivals for our local surf clubs to
compete in. The dates for these carnivals are available on the HSLS website.
The club will meet the competition entry fees for State and Australian Championships for Junior and
Senior Members. However, nominations must be made by members prior to entry closing date for
respective carnivals to Director of Surf Sports – Brad Thomas
Late entries can be made on the day of the carnival, but it there is an additional cost which is
to be met by the competitor.
Officials Each club in the Branch is obliged to supply officials to assist in the running of the carnival. (1 official
for every 10 competitors attending the carnival)
Volunteers from our club to help satisfy our commitment are always very welcome. Officials get a
free shirt, lunch and afternoon tea, and it is a good way to get up close to the action, actively
support our club competitors, and learn more about the events.
Water Safety
To ensure our members safety during water sessions – we must ensure that we adhere to the
guidelines that are set by Surf Life Saving Australia.
For every 5 members undertaking water activities – we must provide one water safety
personnel. 50% of water safety personnel must be on a rescue board.
Water Safety personnel are required to hold a Bronze Medallion or SRC, member of the surf club
and be proficient.
We encourage all Nipper parents who are capable to undertake their surf bronze training and to
contribute to this cause.

you are out’ policy

Patrol Uniform - Minimum Requirements.
It is each member’s responsibility to ensure that they are appropriately attired for patrol.
Members’ uniforms should be clean, neat and tidy in appearance. A modest swimming
costume, which does not hinder rescues, preferably plain red, red/ yellow or Club colours.
Board shorts or bikinis that have tied straps or are clip on are not approved. Once
qualified, patrolling members are supplied with the appropriate patrol uniform that is to be
worn during patrols as per SLSA policy:
Uniform must meet the SLSA minimum standards (SLSA shirt, shorts, quartered cap and
wide brim hat). The Club will supply this uniform to patrolling members.
Members can purchase a jacket which can be worn on patrol
Members are advised that at no time are SLSA patrol shirts/jackets or other articles of
heavy clothing to be worn whilst in an IRB. The red and yellow SLSA rash shirt is
recommended (can purchased from the Club).
Patrolling members should remove their uniform at the completion of their patrol before
departing the clubhouse to travel elsewhere.
SLSA Red and Yellow Rash Shirt. SLSA policy is that a rash shirt is to be worn when
performing duties in the water, the SLSA red and yellow rash shirt is recommended as it is
highly visible. If performing an actual rescue, patrolling members should enter the water as
quickly as possible therefore donning a rash shirt may not be possible as this slows response
times – in these circumstances, the red and yellow quarter cap (which should be worn at
all times) will aid visibility.

City Council building, smoking is also prohibited from all areas inside the clubhouse
building and outside the building, including the viewing area. Under the NSW Local
Government Act 1993, Councils have the power to legislate in their own jurisdictions to
protect their local communities from the effects of second-hand smoke. PSC policy
prohibits smoking on all beaches, bushland, parks and reserves.
Lock-up Procedures

to ensure that the following lock-up procedures are followed:
