Noah was obedient to the Lord in spite of the ridicule of his friends and neighbors.

Because Noah’s family listened and obeyed his teachings, they were saved from the Flood, but the wicked people who would not listen and obey were drowned.

• What kind of a man was Noah? (Genesis 6:9, 22)

• What characteristics must he have had to respond to the assignment to build an ark?

• What qualities can you develop that will help you do what Heavenly Father wants you to do?

• How did Noah try to help the people before the Flood? (Moses 8:20)

• President Thomas S. Monson has served as the 16th President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since February 3, 2008.

• He was born in Salt Lake City, on August 21, 1927

• President Monson served in the United States Navy near the close of World War II.

• He married Frances Beverly Johnson on October 7, 1948, in the Salt Lake Temple. They are the parents of three children, with eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

• In a general conference talk, President Monson told of a tree destroyed by a metal wedge that had become hidden inside it. He then explained how hidden wedges of anger or resentment can destroy our lives unless we learn to forgive.

• … In many families, there are hurt feelings and a reluctance to forgive. It doesn’t really matter what the issue was. It cannot and should not be left to injure. Blame keeps wounds open. Only forgiveness heals. George Herbert, an early 17th-century poet, wrote these lines: “He that cannot forgive others breaks the bridge over which he himself must pass if he would ever reach heaven, for everyone has need of forgiveness.” …

• Inappropriate movies, television programs, and books are offensive to our Heavenly Father.

• President Ezra Taft Benson, thirteenth President of the Church, said: “Your thoughts will determine your actions, and so they must be controlled. It’s difficult to control those thoughts if you submit yourself to temptation. So you will have to carefully select your reading material, the movies you see, and the other forms of entertainment in order to have good thoughts rather than unwholesome desires” (in Conference Report, Apr. 1985, pp. 47–48; or Ensign, May 1985, p. 36).

“… An outward token of God’s covenant with Noah. The rainbow no doubt existed before the flood, but with Noah the rainbow took on a new significance as the token of the covenant.”

Genesis 6:9, 22

• 9 ¶These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.

• 22 Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.

Moses 8:20

• 20 And it came to pass that Noah called upon the children of men that they should repent; but they hearkened not unto his words;

Moses 8:21–22 • 21 And also, after that they had heard him, they

came up before him, saying: Behold, we are the sons of God; have we not taken unto ourselves the daughters of men? And are we not eating and drinking, and marrying and giving in marriage?
