USING YOUR GIFTS TO TRANSFORM THE WORLD 2019-2020
Message from the Principal
Happy long weekend, Cardinals!
Tomorrow is Presidents’ Day and school will be closed. I hope you all will take a moment to read a historical
book about something that has shaped our nation and bring back this knowledge to your classmates on
Tuesday!
On our original calendar, we had planned for a delayed start on Tuesday, February 18. However, due to the
hurricane days earlier this year, we decided to eliminate this; and so we will see you all at the normal time on
Tuesday morning.
Our third graders are going on a field trip this Thursday to the Morehead Planetarium for a fun day of pro-
grams and learning. Later this week, our middle school students will have an opportunity to watch and par-
ticipate in our annual Black History Month program. Our students have been practicing daily and we are
looking forward to honoring culture and heritage Friday afternoon.
Finally, Friday night is our annual staff versus students basketball showcase. We feel confident that the staff
oldies will show our little ones that we are way better than they are; a swift defeat of the students is definite-
ly in the cards! Come out and show your support for the staff and students, or just to see the shenanigans!
Let's have a great week of school!
Becky Draper, Ed.D. Principal

Book buddies with Ms. Lare's kindergarten class and Ms. Kerr’s third grade class.
Ms. Ware’s kindergarten class had a busy Thursday! Students have been studying the
sound that Q and U make when combined. They made QU hats, watched a kindergarten
wedding of qu, and made qu posters to celebrate. For ELA, students collaborated in
centers to sound out QU words. Students decoded what sounds they heard in the
words they discussed. For an exit ticket they shared their favorite qu- word.
Ms. Groo’s students were busy at work on Thursday!
