• The average horse weighs 1,210 pounds. This is an average across all breeds, as weight varies among breeds and is impacted by nutrition, age and health.
• Light riding horses can weigh as little as little as 840 pounds, while large draft horses can weigh up to 2,200 pounds. There are over 300 different breeds of horses, but most reach full size and weight by the age of five.
• The largest horse ever recorded was a Shire horse named Mammoth. He was born in 1848 and weighed 3,300 pounds. The smallest horse on record is a miniature horse that also suffers from dwarfism named Thumbelina. She weighs a scant 57 pounds.
