School Photos Postponed
Due to a number of staff and students being unavailable for our original school photo date, school
photos have been postponed to Friday May 6th. Please change this date in your diaries.
Tarago Athletics Carnival
The new date for the Tarago Athletics Carnival has been set for Wednesday 13th April.
Last Day of Term
The last day of Term 1 is Thursday 24th April. School will finish at 2.15pm. All buses will run an hour earlier on Thursday afternoon to coincide with the earlier finish time for schools.
Harmony Day
A reminder that on Monday March 21st, JSC are running a ‘Harmony Day Fundraiser’. Students are invited to wear multicultural clothes or orange in support of Harmony Day. Harmony day celebrates Australia’s cultural diversity. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. It’s a day for Australians to embrace diversity and to share what we have in common. A gold coin donation is required to dress up and there will be a whole school picnic on the oval at lunch time. Students are reminded to be sun smart wearing clothes covering the shoulders, and no thongs are to be worn.
Farm World Reminder
If you haven’t put your name down to assist at Farm World (held during the last 4 days of the school holidays), please consider doing so. It is a fantastic fundraiser for the school and we need as many volunteers as possible to make it a success. Please read the information on the back of this newsletter.
School Emergency Management Arrangements
The recent events in schools that have been publicised in the media have highlighted the need to ensure all schools are ready to handle an emergency situation should one arise. At Drouin South PS we have a comprehensive emergency management plan that allows for a range of different scenarios. We have regular practise with evacuation and lock-down situations throughout the year so that all staff and students are aware of the procedures. These plans are approved by the Department of Education and relevant emergency services to ensure that the safety of our students, staff and parents is our main priority.
Last Newsletter for the Term
As this is our last newsletter for Term 1 I would like to wish all families a safe and happy Easter break. I wish to thank students, staff and parents for a great start to the year and for making me feel a part of the Drouin South Primary School community. I look forward to seeing everyone for the start of Term 2 on Monday 11th April.

1/2A Maths Investigations We enjoy our ‘Maths Investigations’ sessions on Friday.
It allows the students to put into practice a wide range
of skills and strategies they have been learning… and its
great fun! Luke and Tyler are using their
problem solving strategies to work
out how many dogs and people would
be in a backyard if there were 30
legs altogether.
Harper, Bradley and Amy are
working out different scores for
a round of darts if you had 4
darts and possible scores each
throw were 7, 5,3 and 1.
Mitchell and Lucinda are determining
different 2D shape combinations
that might be in a bag if there were
14 sides altogether.
Caine and Dakota are making
hexagons and octagons out of
Pikininny Shape Blocks.
Thomas and Dane are using Tangrams
to make pictures. Tangrams are an
ancient Chinese Puzzle and can be
very challenging!

Newsletter
Thank you again to the families who have returned their volunteer forms for
our Delivery Service at Farm World 2016. We have received more forms this
week, but so far we have still only received volunteer commitments from 25
families out of a total 140 families at our school and together with our staff
volunteers, have a total of around 45 volunteers. This is only half of the
number that we need - it is a disappointing result for the organising
committee who each year put in an enormous effort to make this event a
success for the benefit of all children at our school.
If you have indicated to the organisers that you are willing to help, but have not
put your form in yet, please do so by Monday at the latest. While we need
more volunteers for each day, we have a particular need for more
volunteers for the Thursday and the Sunday. We appreciate that with Farm
World being on the last weekend of the school holidays it will be challenging for
many families to volunteer their time while meeting family commitments. The
families who have already volunteered one or two family members or friends to
help, have got together with their own families and friends to work around this
either by family members volunteering on different days or friends or family
stepping up to help with child care. Our school has a unique opportunity to raise
$10,000 from this event and we are simply asking each of our 140 families to
consider if they can put forward either a parent, relative, older sibling or
friend to come and help with this very important fundraiser. Please remember,
it is our children who will benefit from our efforts - imagine how hot our kids
would have been in the last week or so if we hadn't raised enough money
through past Farm Worlds to pay for air conditioning for our school buildings!
While Farm World is not until 7-10th April we need to have your volunteer
forms by Monday 21 March so that all the tickets and information packs can
be sent home to our volunteer families before the end of term. We will of
course continue to gather volunteers after this time if needed, but our
organisers have a lot of work to do to prepare and we would appreciate your
support.
If you have any questions about this event please contact Denise Palmer on
0419 120 891.
