THE WAY I SEE IT

It is really quite an achievement for a community music club to go non stop for 20 years establishing a specialist live music venue within the local competitive entertainment scene. Well done members, sponsors, hardworking committees and the musi-cians who have played for the club, many times truly on a ‘mates rates’ basis. All that support plus the contribution of our volunteers has kept the club afloat through some trying times and now has it firmly back on the road to recovery. As explained in the previous newsletter, the vital step now is to return to the door prices of earlier times. These were cut to ease what was at the time a traumatic move to Condong, but we are well settled again now (thank you Condong Bowling Club) and to continue our momen-tum we need better cash flow to enhance the club’s band and music programmes. So we are taking that step starting with the July gig.

From then on door prices will be $15 for members and $20 for visitors. This continues to be top value for a 2 band 4 hour evening. From time to time also we will want to book bands that will necessitate a one off surcharge to perhaps $20 and $25. However, members will truly reap the benefits both these changes bring. In light of this, questions of a name change and wider range of music are off the table, for the foreseeable future at least. Naturally we want to stay true to our founders’ ideals and with the support of this modest increase to our door price we can continue with and build on our chosen music – jazz. Last Friday of the month.. A reminder and invitation to any member who plays an instrument, or can sing, that our Early Birds band is an informal platform for a jam session. It is an unpaid group of members motivated purely by a shared love of music – any music with rhythm and swing. The com-position of the band varies accord-ing to who puts up their hand. A bit rusty? Not to worry. Blow the worst out at home then come along and be drawn into the spirit at the club. Just joining in lifts you any-way and you are truly helping the club. Ours is a friendly environ-ment and your involvement will be appreciated. Contact any committee member.
