Dr. Sharad Ranjan, Associate Profes-
sor in Economics (Zakir Hussain Post
Guaduate Evening College, New
Delhi). The programme started with welcome speech by Daljeet Kaur,
a student of MBA 1st year at SGI. During the inaugural session, a me-
mento was presented to Dr. Sharad Ranjan by Dr. Rajesh Goel
(Director, SGI) and Dr. M.K.Kulshreshtha (Dean, Faculty of Manage-
ment). Then, Dr. Rajesh Goel (Director, SGI) shared his great experi-
ence and knowledge regarding equity and share market. Dr. Sonia Sar-
dana (Assistant Professor, Faculty of Management) was the overall
coordinator of this event.
Dr. Sharad Ranjan is having 17 years of rich experience in the areas of
Teaching, Educational Assessment, Classroom Presentation, Student
Relations and General Administration. He has done his Ph.D from
Centre for Economic Studies and Planning, Jawaharlal Nehru Univer-
sity, M.Phil (Applied Economics) from Centre for Development Stud-
ies, Jawarlal Nehru University, M.A (Economics) from Punjab Uni-
versity, Chandigarh, B.A (Hons.) from Meerut University, Meerut.

In this interactive session, Dr. Sharad Ranjan shared his knowledge regarding Financial Planning
and threw light on the importance of financial planning, steps involved in financial planning, how
to gather financial data, how to achieve goals, what is the relation b/w risk & return, how the in-
flation effects the investments, savings & investment related products, investment philosophies,
projection related products : Life Insurance, Insurance Policies, Health Insurance, Borrowing Re-
lated products: Personal Loan, housing Loan, Re-verse Mortgage, Loan against Securities, Credit
Card Debt etc.
Finally, he concluded his session by describing some investment strategies. He symbolized
SGIans as “Young Investors” and guided them to go for long term investment if they want to earn
better profit. He also mentioned that while making any investment, profit pattern is not the only
matter of concern but the investors should go through other details also and should concentrate on
each and every aspect of investment alternatives.
Students of BBA and MBA were very excited after the session and were contented as they got
crucial knowledge from this lecture on “Financial Planning”. In the end of the session, Dr. M. K.
Kulshreshtha expressed his gratitude by vote of thanks to Dr. Sharad Ranjan. All students of
Management and all the faculty members were present during the session.
Samalkha Group of Institutions (SGI) took initiative
to invite GOOGLE INDIA Pvt. Ltd. for campus
placement on 5th October, 2012. The company tar-
geted CSE/IT and MCA students only. Participants
had to fill up the online registration form till 4th Octo-
ber, 2012 through SGI web portal. Till the date, 600
students from different engineering colleges got reg-
istered for the placement drive at SGI.
At the inaugural session, Dr. Rajesh Goel (Director,
SGI) welcomed all the applicants and gave his best
wishes to them who came from different colleges to attend the test conducted by GOOGLE. He
mentioned that placement of the students has always been the utmost priority at SGI. It always
invites top companies for placement and render students with a pool of opportunities. SGI has
achieved an excellent record in placements. This is because of rigorous training of students,
which helps them to develop strong foundation for core academic competencies along with high

quality professional skills. Students at SGI get a wide professional exposure due to a vibrant schedule
of academic conferences and seminars which are conducted by top academicians, scientists and indus-
try leaders. Excellent performance of SGI students also motivates companies to revisit.
SGI will continue these type of efforts in the upcoming future also.
Corporate people from GOOGLE, Mr. Indrajeet Roy, Mr. Sumit Gupta, Mr. Parveen and Mr. Alok
took the initiative for the bright future of students and gave all the required instructions to the appli-
cants. Recruitment process started with an on-line test that included English Comprehension, Mathe-
matical Aptitude, Logical Puzzles, Engineering Technical and Personality Test (Situational Judgment
Test).
More than 400 students appeared in the online test conducted by GOOGLE India Pvt. Ltd. The test
started at 9 AM and continued up to 5 PM in a number of batches. At last, Mr. Indrajeet Roy ex-
pressed thanks to SGI for providing best facilities, infrastructure, man power and student coordinators.
The Event would have not been successful without the dedicated efforts of Training & Placement De-
partment at SGI: Mr. Muneesh Marwaha (Manager-Corporate Relations), Mr. Vishal Dora (Training
& Placement Officer), Dr. Sonia Sardana (Training & Placement Coordinator & Assistant Professor,
FOM). Today Excellence is the buzzword at SGI. GOOGLE test was conducted with the coordination
of SGI students - Sudhir, Devender Singh, Amit, Saurabh, Atul, Suraj, Salman, Rahul.

2012. The company targeted B.Tech (CSE/IT) and MBA/
PGDM students only. Students had to register themselves
online through SGI web portal till 14th October, 2012. More
than 600 students got registered for the drive from different
engineering colleges.
Corporate people from Target Group, Mr. Aashish, Manager,
HR and Ms. Divya Chabra, Head, HR & Admin along with
their team took all the initiatives for bright future of students and gave all the required instructions to
the applicants. In last, Ms. Divya Chabra, Head, HR & Admin thanked SGI for providing best facili-
ties, infrastructure, manpower and students coordinators.

A Two-day Preliminary Introductory Workshop named
“Pi-Workshop” was organized by Embedded Research
and Development Centre (ERDC) at Samalkha Group
of Institutions on 18th & 19th
October, 2012. Mr. Ash-
wani Dhiman and Mr. Pawan Garg headed the work-
shop. SGI students- Ishant, Vicky Goel, Sarthak,
Prince, Mohit Chhabra and Lalit Sharma were the coor-
dinators of the workshop.
It was a two-day “Hands on training” session. The chief focus of this workshop was at the practical
aspects in the field of engineering. On the first day there were two sessions. In the first session, Mr.
Ashwani Dhiman and Mr. Pawan Garg covered all the basic tools and components used by Me-
chanical and Electronics Engineers. Programming fundamentals and electrical power supply pa-
rameters were also the spotlight of this session. Students learned how to identify a component,
measuring their various parameter values and how to choose a component for a particular project.
In the second session, the students learned about various types of software like Multisim, Matlab,
multi-board & PCB designing software like Dip trace, express PCB etc. Students have also learnt
the process of fabricating a PCB (Printed Circuit Board). Students also learned the use of various
instruments like multimeter, Cathode ray oscilloscope (CRO), Digital storage oscilloscope (DSO) &
function generator etc.
On the second day on 19th October, kits and components were given to all the participants by ERDC.
They learned soldering technique and practiced it by soldering various components on PCB. After
that all of them made a project named “Variable Power Supply”. They were guided how to make
various other projects for their academic purposes as well as from industrial point of view.
This workshop aimed at developing the project building skills. It was oriented towards the goal of
project implementation process and completed hands on practice on project. These types of work-
shops are necessary from time to time for students because industries are demanding skilled engi-
neers and SGI fulfills this gap by organizing such type of workshops.

Samalkha Group of Institutions (SGI) became Talent
Hub to PROCESS GLOBAL Inc. for placement drive
on 19th & 20th October, 2012. The company was seeking
students of CSE/IT and MCA. Students had to register
online till 18th October, 2012 through SGI web portal.
From different engineering colleges, 450 students got
registered through online registration.

These students participated in Recruitment process of
PROCESS GLOBAL Inc. through Aptitude Test, Techni-
cal Interview and HR round. Students were very excited for their results. The process completed at
7PM. The result was displayed on SGI website. The Event was a great success with the help of dedi-
cated coordinators of Training & Placement Department of SGI: Mr. Muneesh Marwaha (Manager-
Corporate Relations), Mr. Vishal Dora (Training & Placement Officer), & Dr. Sonia Sardana
(Training & Placement Coordinator & Assistant Professor, FOM).
At last, MD Mr. Rajshekar Krishnan expressed his gratitude to SGI for providing best facilities, in-
frastructure, man power and students coordinators. He also appreciated the best efforts of SGI in
every sense. Placement Drive for Process Global Inc. was successfully conducted with the help of
student coordinators of SGI i.e Sudhir, Salman, Vikas, Devender Singh, Amit, Suraj, Rahul, Satya,
Pulkit, Monish, Saddam. Dr. Rajesh Goel (Director, SGI) promised the students for this type of ac-
tivities in the upcoming days also. Today Excellence is the buzzword at SGI.
A National Level Workshop named “AUTOTRIX”
was organized by Mechanical Engineering Depart-
ment at Samalkha Group of Institutions on 20th Octo-
ber, 2012.This workshop was organized by Mr.
Kapil Chopra (HOD, ME), Mr. Dinesh Jain and Ms.
Savita Singh (Faculty in ME Department). SGI stu-
dents Manu Dipesh, Sachin Taneja, Mikhilesh,
Samarth Sikka, Vicky Goel, Sarthak, Ritu Dhawaj,
Ashish Beniwal, Amit, Neeraj Rathi and Ankit also
coordinated in conducting the workshop.
It was a one day National level workshop in which more than 300 students from different institu-
tions participated from all over India. The main focus of this workshop was at the practical aspect of
combustion engineering. The key Speakers were Dr. Naveen Kumar (Professor, Delhi College of
Engineering) and Dr. Avdhesh Sharma (Senior Faculty, NIT Kurukshetra). The highlights of the
workshop were Practical Explanation, Recent Developments and internal theory of IC Engines.

The contents of the workshop were the basic principles of internal combustion engine, alternative
fuels used in IC Engines; various design aspects of IC engines live visualization & demonstration of
the components & assembly of the entire engine. Students learnt about the basic principles of Inter-
nal Combustion Engine and how it works. They also got knowledge about all different parts of IC
engine and recent developments in the field of IC Engines. They also gained knowledge about alter-
native fuels used in IC engine.
These types of workshops are necessary for students because industries are demanding skilled engi-
neers and SGI fulfills this gap by organizing these types of workshops. All the participants found
this workshop to be very much useful and beneficial. All the participants were awarded with certifi-
cates by Director Dr. Rajesh Goel. He also motivated them for participating in these kinds of work-
shops in the future.
SGI is committed to provide best and quality profession-
als to the global market. Therefore, besides academics
SGI has taken a step ahead to improve the technical skills
and personality of students. Technical skills & Personal-
ity is the key point taken into consideration before mak-
ing any selection by the recruiters. Therefore, Depart-
ment of CSE, SGI invited Eminent Personality Mr. Nitin
Kansal, Sr. System Administrator from TECH
MAHINDRA on 22nd October, 2012 for his special lec-
ture on “Role of Unix in IT Industry.”
The event started with a speech by Dr. Rajesh Goel, Director of SGI. During his comprehensive and
excellent talk, he explained the benefits of expert lecture for improving the technical skills of the
students and also told about the great demand of UNIX in IT industry.
Mr. Nitin Kansal made a very inspiring and excellent presentation on various aspects of UNIX tech-
nologies followed by interactive session of commands and shell scripting. The lecture was very in-
teractive and beneficial for the students. The students showed keen interest in the importance of the
training and knowing about UNIX from the speaker. The lecture was ended with question-answer
session in which different types of queries of the students regarding the future prospective of the job
were sorted out by the speaker.
This lecture was organized and coordinated by energetic students of SGI Prerna Bhasin(CSE),
Anuj jain(CSE), leaded by Mr. Manoj Sharma (HOD, CSE), Ms. Shweta Juneja, Mr. Gaurav
Bhatia (Faculty in CSE Department). Students of SGI were very enthusiastic to be enrolled for the
lecture as there were limited seats available for the lecture. The students who attended the lecture
were also provided with certificates by the Guest and Director of the Institute. The Lecture was also
attended by many dignitaries of the institute i.e., Dean Management, All HODs in addition to other
teachers and staff.

A Cellular World Workshop named “Hello Mobile” was
organized by Embedded Research and Development Centre
(ERDC) at Samalkha Group of Institutions on 26th October,
2012. All the students of Electronics & Communication
Engineering participated in the workshop.
This workshop was organized to deliver the basic knowl-
edge about the various technologies used in mobile phones
and various parts of mobile phones both hardware as well
as software. Mr. Ashwani Dhiman started the workshop with the description of GSM technology
and the CDMA technology. He also discussed about the switching systems used in past times and in
today’s world.
Students also learned the working and uses of various instruments like hot air gun and IR Rework
station etc. The workshop also covered the working of different IC’s used in mobile phones, their
fault diagnosing & troubleshooting. Students also learned how to install various softwares in Sym-
bian mobile phones and Java mobile phones.
Students were also guided how they can build a career in mobile or wireless communication indus-
try and their future scopes. Students got idea about journey of analog phones to 4G digital phones.
Mr. Pawan Garg, Research Associate at ERDC and Arun, Mohit Jain, Kapil Khanchi, Manisha stu-
dents of ECE final year coordinated the workshop.

drive on 26th October, 2012. The company was seeking
B.tech (CSE/IT), MCA, BCA (2012-13), Polytechnic Di-
ploma Holders(CSE/IT), B.Sc.(IT) and BBA/MBA/BCA
students. Students have to complete an online registration
till 25th October, 2012 through SGI web portal. 670 stu-
dents from different engineering colleges got registered
through SGI.

Mr. Dinesh Kalra & Mr. Abhishek took all the initiatives
for the bright future of students and gave all the required
instructions to the applicants. 390 students participated in
Recruitment process of Lakshay Technology Solutions which involved Aptitude Test, Technical In-
terview and HR round. Students were very excited for their results. Process was completed on 5:30
PM. The Training & Placement Department of SGI made this program a success which involved:

Right to Information” recorded on NDTV on 26th
October, 2012 at Archana Complex, GK Part-1, New
Delhi. The event was hosted by NDTV's Tech Guru
Vikram Chandra. SGI provides such a platform to
the students where they get exposure and vision to the
things happening in the corporate world. SGI provides
knowledge and understanding of culture, language,
geography and global perspectives to its students. SGI
Students are trained to access and evaluate corporate
information resources. SGI curriculum enables students to understand the world by attending vari-
ous National award shows where they get experience & exposure. SGI always takes initiative to par-
ticipate in various academic and cultural programmes.
At the closing of the Program, NDTV Team celebrated Diwali Eve. The Program was coordinated
by enthusiastic students of SGI, Mohit Yadav, Manjeet Kumar & Sahiba under the guidance of Mr.
Amit Bansal, Faculty in Management Department.

SGI organized SciLab Workshop for M.Tech. Students
Samalkha Group of Institutions is the Resource Centre of IIT
Bombay for Spoken Tutorial Project. This project is funded
by National Mission on Education through ICT, MHRD and
Govt. of India with the thrust area being "Adaptation and De-
ployment of open source simulation packages equivalent to
MAT-LAB, ORCAD etc."
Under the Spoken Tutorial project a Free and Open Source
Software (FOSS) workshop on SciLab has been organized at
Samalkha Group of Institutions for the students of M.Tech 2nd
year on 27th October, 2012 and for B.Tech. ECE 7th Semester
on 29th October, 2012. The course material was provided by the “Talk to a Teacher” project at IIT
Bombay. This workshop was organized by Er. Ashwani Dhiman. Mr. Vikas Uttraja (HOD-ECE)

Fresher Party of CSE Department was organized
for welcoming new comers by their seniors in
Samalkha Group of Institutions, Samalkha on
27th October, 2012. This is a custom in SGI to
make new comers feel at home & get familiar
with the new environment of college. The Man-
agement of SGI is very keen in avoiding the
Evils like “Ragging” in the campus and therefore
organizes such events.
The event started with lightning of lamp by re-
spected Director, Assoc. Director, HOD CSE,
and Dean-Management. The Director of the institute Dr. Rajesh Goel and Prof. H.L Chhatwal moti-
vated and congratulated all the Faculty, staff & students involved in organizing the event. Dr. Rajesh
Goel, Director of the SGI congratulated and appealed the students to keep the institute free from
“Ragging” and enjoy their studies in a secure and joyful environment at SGI. All the Heads of vari-
ous departments, faculty and staff were present to witness the events.
The event was aimed at introducing students and making them aware about campus environment
and their senior mates.
The main curtains of the event were ramp walk, dance performance by Deepti, song by Younis,
Games performed by fresher students and enjoyed fun games. Judges selected Himanshu Negi as
Mr. Fresher and Thongam Jayaluxmi Devi as Miss Fresher and Avinesh Arora as Mr. Personality
and Shilpa Shetty as Miss Personality on the basis of their performances and talent.
Student coordinators for the programme were Prerna Bhasin, Deepti, Rohit Kansal, Yogesh, Pankaj,
Hardeep, Ankita Saini, Deepakshi. The event was fully enjoyed by everyone.
Fresher Party for New Comers of CSE Department

Samalkha Group of Institutions strives hard to im-
prove the practical knowledge of its students by pro-
viding best and quality education to make them best
professionals to the global market. For fulfilling this
commitment, an industrial visit was organized to
Hydro Power Plant in Chamera-I Power Station
on 28th October, 2012. Four Faculty members from
ECE Department Mr. Sagar Bhosle, Mr. Hemant
Chugh, Ms. Sakshi Jain and Ms. Ritu Pahal along
with 45 students visited the place. Faculty and students were provided knowledge about Hydro
Power Plant and various methods of generation of electricity.
This scheme has been executed by NHPC Ltd. in collaboration with SNC/ACRES of Canada. The
Power Station is located near Chaurah Village in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh. The Power
Station is conceptualized for the utilization of the hydro power potential of Ravi River available be-
tween a point upstream of the confluence of river Siul and Ravi and above the reservoir of Ranjit
Sagar Dam in Punjab. The Power Station has been designed to generate 1664 Million Units of en-
ergy in a 90% dependable year. Beneficiaries are Himachal Pradesh, J&K, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi,
Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Rajasthan and Union Territory of Chandigarh.
Faculty and students expanded their knowledge and experience by this industrial visit and thanked
Samalkha Group of Institutions for providing them such an event.
To inspire students to achieve their dreams, Samalkha
Group of Institutions organized a motivational lecture de-
livered by Mr. Akshay Tomar on 30th October, 2012. This
lecture focused on hitting the hearts of the students with a
right message & grooming their personality by deciding
their burning desires. Mr. Akshay Tomar is a motivational
speaker/ corporate trainer in PRERNA Engineering Edu-
cational Group. PRERNA Group continuously strives to
inspire & motivate its audience with some tested princi-
ples of life and by sharing the rich harvest of personal ex-

own potential. It is continuously endeavoring to test the mental barrier & the obstacles that block the
path to success and greatness.
During his presentation, Mr. Akshay Tomar talked about motivation, leadership, breakthrough atti-
tude, building effective relationships, spiritual leadership, stress management, success, change, self
esteem, team building, goal setting etc. He informed the students about the results of a survey which
determined that 64% people don’t have any dream, 33% have dreams & just 3% catch their dreams
successful. And those who are successful follow a PATH-Punctuality, Attention towards their goal,
Training & Humbleness. In the end, he gave some tips to the students to get success- “think seri-
ously about yourself, your profession, then your goal & your priorities”. The lecture was very inter-
active, innovative & powerful. All the faculty members of Faculty of Management & all the students
of BBA & MBA attended the lecture. Mr. Muneesh Marwaha (Manager Corporate Relation), Dr.
