FAQsWhat is an ICT Strategic Plan?

An ICT Strategic Plan provides schools with a clear roadmap for achieving curriculum goals through the use of technology. The plan starts with the current ICT infrastructure and technologies in use and details a three to five year plan for advancing the technology platform. The plan takes into consideration the effect of implementing new devices and technologies, budget constraints, infrastructure and device lifecycles, support requirements, milestones and responsibilities. What does it entail?

The process can be tailored to meet the specific needs and budget of any school, no matter how large or small, no matter how many students, devices or the status of current technologies. Aquinas College were using storage systems that were proving difficult to manage whilst students had trouble understanding where they needed to go for different projects.

A PD session introducing Stile was held at the beginning of 2013 with the decision to use the program completely optional. Through word of mouth both teachers and students began to use Stile to support their daily curriculum.

Year 10 students are now using Stile frequently during class along with their weekly homework cycle. Through the use of Stile, multimedia is now being integrated into lessons as well as completing and presenting student assignments. Stile is also being used to assist substitute teachers in keeping up to date with handovers and managing workflow.

Since its initial PD inception the number of teachers using Stile has doubled. 960 students throughout the school are also using Stile.

Teachers have been able to manage workflow easily and efficiently, particularly with video submissions which have shifted from a major issue into a quick, simplified process.

Students are more accountable as Stile has provided a way for teachers to monitor their work and assess progress.

Melba College had introduced a BYOD program in the past but struggled with issues such as high administration loads, limited payment options and sourcing the extensive tech support that was required to configure student iPads.

Assistance was required to address these challenges in a way that would save time, money and provide effective ICT integration throughout the school.

Melba College's 1:1 iPad program has streamlined ICT for parents, students and the school. Parents who placed orders for pre-Christmas delivery all received their goods on time and ready for 2014 enrolment.

The wireless connection was a successful ICT investment, saving time and ICT expenditure for 2014.

Network Neighborhood was approached in October 2013 to assist Melba College in rolling out their 2014 BYOD program. With the new year fast approaching NN worked closely with the College to determine their requirements and set achieveable goals.

NN built an online portal that allowed parents to purchase iPads, accessories, insurance and bundles in one place without needing to contact the school directly. Presence at information sessions gave parents the opportunity to ask questions and build their confidence in portal navigation.

A wireless connection utility was also set up, enabling students to connect to a wireless network without technician interaction.
