Powerful networkmanagement toolsLibra systems are simple to operate and maintain, requiring no specialist skills on thepart of the user. Comprehensive state-of-health and diagnostic information are con-tinuously acquired, monitored and presented to the user via a series of web pages. All Libra hardware modules incorporate comprehensive self-test modes whichfurther aid in the rapid and accurate diagnosis of system faults.Additional softwareis provided to support multicast firmware uploads via the satellite connection.
The Libra systemhas earned its reputationas a reliable data communications solution,
equally effective in any terrain or environ-
ment.Satellite telemetry provides the
highest possible data integrity and is not
restricted by limitations such as line-of-sight
requirements or the proximity of established
communications infrastructure.
Continuous, reliabletelemetryLibra is an IP communications system able to collect continu-ous data, which it transmits in near real-time from the remotestation directly to the central hub via geostationary satellite. Itis a simple system consisting solely of remote and central sitelocations, without the complexity of repeater stations andmultiple communications technologies.
As a private network, Libra is immune to disruption from otherusers. Unlike Internet, cellular and publicVSAT networks, Libradoes not share bandwidth with other users neither is it subjectto surprise configuration changes made by third party networkoperators. These factors combine to significantly reduce theworkload on your technical support and IT staff.
Versatile Cygnus transceiverEach Libra remote site is equipped with an identical Cygnustransceiver. While initially designed for the acquisition andcommunication of seismic and environmental data, Cygnus canacquire a wide range of IP and serial data types.
The new Cygnus transceiver features a 10/100Base-T Ethernetinterface, two serial ports and one NMXBus port. Onboardstorage options include 2, 4 and 16 GByte compact flash. Cygnuscan be deployed for general IP data communication or cus-tomers can benefit from the embedded Apollo data acquisitionand communications software. This software combines UDP/IPmulticast communications with application level retransmissionerror correction to deliver >99.99% data availability.
Easyimplementationand expansionLibra network installation and expansionsare quick and easy. VSAT eliminates thedetailed planning and expense involved inaccommodating topography, line-of-siterequirements or access to ground-basedcommunications infrastructure. No re-peater stations or connections to existingcommunications infrastructure meansfewer permits and contracts to negotiate.
Most solar powered remote stations canbe installed and commissioned within aday and expansions are simple.Whetheradding one site or 100, each installationfollows the same standard procedure anduses a uniform set of equipment.
Real-worldexperienceLibra is an established product withover 1200 remote sites and 40 hubsoperating in more than 30 countriesaround the world.
LibraVSATSystem Satellite communications network for seismic and environmental studies Economical networks
of any sizeLibra is cost effective to operate in either small or largenetworks. Satellite space segment operating costs for a typical15-station network acquiring continuous seismic data are only$5800 per year or $33/station/month.
Data can be transmitted from any number of remote Libra sitessimultaneously to more than one receiving Carina hub with noadditional satellite lease cost. Furthermore, one Libra networkcan share data with an adjacent network without incurringadditional space segment costs.
Complete freedomof station placementLibra opens up a wide range of options for remote site place-ment, including hostile or isolated terrain unsuitable for cellular, telephone or radio communications.
Libra remote stations can be installed anywhere there is a clearview of the satellite. The cost of communications does not varywith the location or with distance from the central site.
Consuming as little as 6W of power, Cygnus remote stationscan be solar powered and are completely independentof any established ground infrastructure.
