Please keep in mind there is no right or wrong way for any technique so use whatever works for you. Essentially NMM is just like painting any other surface other than the way light reflects off metal. To help perceive the right reflection it helps to have metal objects like a spoon or a knife to look at. There are plenty of good NMM examples on the net as well. Step 1: Palette. Starting from the left - Skull white - Skull White/Golden Yellow - Golden Yellow/Snakebite Leather - Vomit Brown - Snakebite Leather - Snakebite Leather/Chaos Black - Scorched Brown Other than Scorched Brown which is 50/50 paint to water I thin all the other colours 1 part paint to 5 parts water. Depending on how smooth you want your blends you may or may not want to use more or less water. 1 part paint to 2 parts water is a good place to start when just trying it out. *Note* You can try using a lighter yellow like Sunburst Yellow for a brighter and clean looking gold. Step 2: Prime Black

NMM Gold TutorialAs promised here's the way I do NMM gold. Step 1: Palette. Starting from the left

- Skull white- Skull White/Golden Yellow- Golden Yellow/Snakebite Leather- Vomit Brown- Snakebite Leather- Snakebite Leather/Chaos Black- Scorched Brown

Other than Scorched Brown which is 50/50 paint to water I thin all theother colours 1 part paint to 5 parts water. Depending on how smooth youwant your blends you may or may not want to use more or less water. 1part paint to 2 parts water is a good place to start when just trying it out.

Step 2: Prime Black

There are endless discussions whether to use black or white as anundercoat. I use either depending on how bright the colour scheme is. Forthis example I use black.

Step 3: Scorched Brown

Base coat of Scorched Brown.

Step 4: Snakebite Leather.

You don't have to get a bright Snakebite Leather base, just an even shade.

Step 5: Golden Yellow/Snakebite Leather

Trying to keep to where I want the lighter colours to show I go over theareas with Golden Yellow/Snakebite Leather mix. I do about 10 or so layersbut it doesn't take long.

Step 6: Vomit Brown

Using Vomit Brown I further lighten up the area I did with previous stepwhile trying to leave a little bit of the Golden Yellow/Snakebite Leathershowing. Poorly executed on my part in this instance but shows that eventhough it looks bad now it'll come out in the end, hopefully.

Step 7: Skull White/Golden Yellow

Here come some big payoffs. As before I go over the area trying to leavesome of the previous colour showing. If I was neat and tidy this could bemy final step but for me there are always clean up steps after.

Step 8: Clean up

Using the Snakebite Leather/Chaos Black mix I go over the darkest areasfirst. I tend to reduce this mix even further. Something like 1 part paint to20 parts water. That way when I make a mistake it's not as noticeable. I'lldo a lot of glazing with my intermediate colours in between darkest areasand the lightest. You'll have to experiment to get a feel for the look youwant. To finish it off I run Skull White along the raised edges and anywhere else I think it should be shinny.

That's pretty much it. I'm still working at improving my NMM and probablywill be as long as I paint. I recommend everyone at least try NMM of somesort if they haven't already. It'll help your focus on the light source, yourblending, and highlighting and shading.

Re: NMM Gold TutorialThanks Urb... seems simple enough... coul we see the other side of thegold bar? Im always curious about that because you never see the otherangle, would help me figure out how to do it.

Re: NMM Gold Tutorialdepending on whether or not you are doing an "all over" light source ornot...the easiest way to do the spots in shadows(since obviously without

is to mix in blues or glaze blues over, it will appear in shadow, havecontrast, while not being as bright...you could also use purple(maybe) orgreen

Re: NMM Gold TutorialZphindar, in this example I didn't finish off the back of the gold bar. Here'swhere NMM gets a bit tricky. As starks was indicating it really depends onthe light source. If the light source follows the model all around then Iwould just pick and angle and paint it ignoring what I did on the otherside. In this case I would've mirrored the left and the right. I'm not verygood with my reflections so your guess would be as good as mine.

Re: NMM Gold TutorialNice Urb, very nice

I think i'll stick to line highlights and washes for now, leave this 'god-like' painting to you and Starks
