The title of the magazine is Palma Violets because they are ‘the most exciting new guitar band in Britain right now’. They are known for living in poor living conditions and the magazine reports on the gory details. This has connotations on what the ‘rocker’ lifestyle is like and what it is like to be one. AudienceThe target market for this magazine is men aged 17-30. You can tell this through the use of the type of articles and advertisement used such as ’25 brilliant bands you need to hear’. The reader can interact with the magazine further through the use of the website where background and further information can be found. The cover of the magazine includes the main subject who is playing a guitar and really getting into the music. This can represent the subject find the music powerful and is enjoying it this is reinforced further through the other subjects dancing in the background. LanguageThe front cover has a range of different colours. However, the text is mainly white, red or yellow. The yellow can give the magazine a cheaper and more ‘tacky’ effect, this therefore presents it as being more affordable. Yellow and red are also bring colours which stand out well and cause the consumer to focus their attention on this particular magazine compared to its rivals. This magazine also features ‘still got it’ this can influence the middle aged generation to purchase the magazine due to the involvement of artists which suit them. This magazine has the usual codes and convections of similar magazines. The style of the magazine is fairly rebellious due to subject about to smash a guitar on the second page. The magazines presentation is set out in columns which makes it similar to a newspaper, its layout includes a large amount of images. Inside the magazine I feel it looks professional and well thought out due to the items being well placed. The large percentage of images gives it a magazine feel and makes it ‘easier to read’.

The magazine writers understand it is a more male based magazine and addresses this. Often, the females who would read this type of magazine would be influenced by males and could possibly be tomboys. The first article covers what has happened in the last week and what is the popular music this week. This issue of the magazine does not include many adverts due to magazine already being packed full with information such as charts, competitions and interviews. However, the adverts used relate to the target audience and would be suited towards them e.g. music instruments or CD’s/downloads.

GenreNME magazines are associated with punk and rock. I feel the main semiotics of this genre are individual, untidy and relaxed. The subject smashing a guitar can connote this particular youth culture as being rebellious and mischievous. The heavy use of instruments could also suggest the target audience play musical instruments themselves and enjoy listening to the sounds they produce.RepresentationMen are usually shown as being more dominant over women for example being the main singer of the band. The magazine is also read mostly by males. Due to the use of more males in bands it could suggest that males are better artists for this particular genre. Groups that are not associated with the punk and rock youth culture are not shown because they would not suit the target audience. Examples of bands that appear in this magazine are The Beatles, Oasis and Green Day. They are represented as being awesome and act almost as idols. I feel this magazine is highly popular due to vast information and great images included. It was also been round for a fairly long time so has been able to develop and see what is effective.
