NLP defined
• Neuro linguistic programming is a process of modelling the
conscious and unconscious patterns that are unique to each
of us.
• Neuro – our brain and our physiology. How our five senses
form the basis of our thinking and behaviour.
• Linguistic – the verbal and non-verbal language we use to
communicate with ourselves and others.
• Programming – the patterns of thinking, language and
behaviour that we put together to get the results we do.

Beliefs - Limiting and Helpful
“I’m just a small
cog in a big wheel.”
“I can’t do this.”
“We’ve tried this
before.”
“They won’t want
my ideas.”
“I’m in charge of my
cog.”
“I can do anything I set
my mind to.”
“We can learn from last
time.”
“I’ve got lots to offer.”
“He might fall.” “What an adventure.”

Some Helpful Beliefs for coaches
The map is not the territory.
Behind every behaviour is a positive intention.
If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll
always get what you’ve always got.
Choice is better than no choice.
It’s not possible not to communicate.
People already have all they need to achieve what
they want.
The NLP Presuppositions
The meaning of communication is the response
you get.
The mind and body are interconnected; if you
affect one you affect the other.
![Page 12: NLP in Coaching - nelacademy.nhs.uk](https://reader030.fdocuments.us/reader030/viewer/2022012707/61a7e04dce94b90599328874/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
Awareness – Perceptual Positions
First Position
What’s Important to ME?
Second Position
What’s Important to THE OTHER?
Third Position
What’s Important
to note from OUTSIDE?
1987. John Grinder and Judith De Lozier

Practicing the Positions
In Pairs:
Get a fresh perspective of a situation by
practicing the three perceptual positions.
